Online reviews of Garmin MapSource TOPO 2008 US say different things about whether the previous version's glaring inaccuracies in the topo maps have been fixed. Some say yes, others no. Has anyone compared the two? Is it bad enough to reconsider buying a Garmin mapping GPS unit? There doesn't seem like much point in buying a mapping GPS if the maps are way off.

I like the Venture HC and am trying to decide if it's worth the extra $50 to get the Legend HCx. The biggest advantage of the Legend is the SD memory card slot. I have used a basic Etrex Yellow for four years so I don't know anything about loading or using maps, but am looking forward to trying. I will be taking mostly one day in-state trips, and not using the unit for driving (I have a Nuvi 200w for that). Is the expandable memory important to have, or can I get by with loading destination area maps from MapSource for each trip?

Which software packages allow you to creat elevation graphs from track log and elevation data? Elevation graphs are often shown with trail descriptions in hiking and biking books, with distance on the horizontal axis and elevation on the vertical axis. Here is an example (bottom of page) Hall Ranch Trail Map and Elevation Graph I use QuakeMap to plot my track logs to TerraServer topo and satellite photo maps. It lets you color-code track logs by elevation, but no elevation graphs. I've searched Google and the GC forums with no luck. Anyone have a clue?
