  1. Thank you! I went and signed up with no problems. I was sure there was a way to do it but for the life of me had no idea where it was located on the site.

    New caches?

I was wondering if there's a way to get emails or listings as new caches are posted? I just became a premium member and wondered if this was even possible without having to log-in and look all the time?
  3. I'm gathering more suggestions and asking you fellow cachers, what do you like to see within the cache? Is there something that makes it a "favorite" for you? Is it the thrill of finding a level 4 or 5 cache? Maybe a challenging terrain, the ability to jump out of a vehicle and be within 100 yards of the prize? Does there need to be something in particular inside the cache such as a trackable, or are you perfectly happy finding just a logbook to sign if the journey to the discovery was scenic or well thought out? I'm just curious and interested in what each and every one of you has found in your "favorite"!
  4. That was what it took to fix it. Thank you very much!
  5. I myself think I'm gonna start logging a waypoint into my gps while taking pictures and upon finding benchmarks. It would be pretty easy to just go back and look up the coordinates when logging the benchmark and just add it at that point if it's very far off.
  6. I set my account up to show a picture but at least on my end it is not showing up anywhere in the forum section unless someone can see it and I not know? Is this a known issue and is there a way to fix it, or maybe it's just for paid members?
  7. What about if the person hiding the caches were to put up geocaching stickers either on the "No Trespassing" signs or on other landmarks like electrical poles? I think if I were to hide them on our personal farmland I'd probably just place them within 50 feet of a rock road adjoining the field and not make everyone walk across the middle of a 1/4 section of cropland where they would surely stand out like a sore thumb...lol.
  8. I guess I ask the question because I live in an area where the caches are few and far between and I've been considering hiding some. Being near a major north/south interstate I-29 I'm hoping it will draw some cachers in to look for them. I'd really like to try to help get the density of numbers up in western Iowa so I may just hide a few and see what happens.
  9. I haven't actually logged any of these benchmarks as of yet but I guess more than anything I want to figure out what I'm doing beforehand and ask some of the questions I'm not sure of. I don't know that I'm gonna report them to the NGS right away unless I find a mark that has been found missing. I guess it just kind of intimidates me that I may mess up how to report it properly but I intend on making notes incase I ever decide to go back and file a report after I'm more comfortable.
  10. If you list something on private land, should there be something in the listing telling cachers it is private but or you are giving them permission?
  11. I thought of maybe doing that but I couldn't find a computer with an old Serial Port...I thought about selling it but I couldn't with a clear conscience knowing it was gonna lockup to some unsuspecting new owner.
  12. I was wondering if anyone has ever had any problems with a Legend locking up with a black line through the middle of the display before? Mine will work fine and not miss a beat until I activate WAAS and then everytime within 5 minutes it will get this black bar through the display in which I pull the batteries to restart it and turn off WAAS and away we go. Unfortunately this wasn't accurate enough to get me to caches so I moved up to the 60csx and it's like night and day the difference!
  13. I want to pose the question of how far will you drive out of the way for a single cache? Are you more likely to go after a cluster of caches in an area or a cache with multiple parts to it if the drive is 10, 20, or maybe 50 miles in the middle of nowhere? What is the longest distance you have driven to get to a "single" cache and have you ever came up empty?
  14. I was wondering other's take on this topic:Public or Private hiding locations? My family farms and owns hundreds of acres adjoining public hunting and park lands. My question is is it alright for myself to hide caches on our farmland if I'm basically giving permission to hunt it or do they need to be on public grounds?
  15. Being new to benchmarking, I was wondering when reporting finds if we should ever note the coordinates of where we actually locate the mark if it's different than description? If the coordinates are scale and not adjusted do we need to report or is it more important to have measurement descriptions?
  16. I think I'm gonna concentrate on some of the easier benchmarks to start with like the disc type that are a little easier to locate. I am definitely gonna make a note about that 1934 Triangulation Station and maybe as I gain some experience and build up my locating skills will try to go locate it if it's on public land! I really appreciate all the help and look forward to learning more from all of you experienced benchmark hunters!
  17. I was wondering if a benchmark has never been documented and we are the first to record and photograph them do they count as a FTF? I know of several in my area that nobody has ever found that I've seen growing up and plan on documenting and wondered how it all works. Thanks for any help!
  18. Hello fellow cachers! I'm fairly new to this and just bought a 60csx and have figured out how to transfer straight cache files with included usb cord. My question is how do I get benchmark loc files on my device as I searched near my residence and have upwards of 100 but don't really want to have to write all the coordinates down. Can I do it with my cable or maybe I need to install my memory card and save it that way? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  19. Just bought a 60csx this week off craigslist for $150 and saw two others in my local area alone listed as well so they're definitely out there! Good luck!
