  1. I figured it out after pained recall of surrounding area and distinctive features (grist mill, equestrian trails, etc.). Franklin Creek! Great hike, bring footwear for crossing creeks, or be prepared to go barefoot as we did last time. The barefoot thing is not so much fun. Rocks hurt. Pretty short hike (4 miles maybe?). We can't wait to do it again!
  2. This is a shot in the dark but here goes. Over a year ago, we went after a cache that was located in a park, on the far side of a creek you need to wade across or tiptoe on rocks depending on dryness (or so it seemed, we couldn't find), the creek was to your left as you walked the trail. Leaving the "public" area, the trail continued for quite a nice hike which featured having to cross two or three streams (yes, you would need Keens or to take your boots off) and also featured the ruins of a small quarry or at least a pile of rocks in the middle of the woods, you actually climbed up some of the rocks to continue on the trail. The topography along the creek was plenty of Starved Rock-like canyon rock, but not nearly as large, plenty of wooded forest as well. That's all I got! We simply cannot remember where this place was and want to hike it again! It would be Northern Illinois, possibly west or south of Chicago, but not terribly close to Chicago. Any ideas?
  3. While hiking around and doing some incidental caching in the process, we met up with another individual who was doing same. We briefly interacted, he gave us his user name, we gave him ours, and of course we didn't record particulars. We have some basics- "fat man" or "fatman" or "fatman 67" or whatever, but now we can't locate him thru a search. He wasn't creeped out by our interaction (oddly, heh), so quick, on-the-trail exchange of info was legit. Should it be this difficult? Not the first time this has happened.
  4. No worries, actually what you provided was quite helpful! Looks like today it will be mrs. contact dermatitis armed with the BlackBerry, and mr. with the 60. That's actually a nice arrangement, both of us occupied with info in our hands, and we don't run down the battery navigating with the BB. And who are we kidding- we'll end up spending a half hour at our first GZ anyway.
  5. Thank you! Even when "toggling" back to the Find page, I'm still running into the icons for various Find options, which entails me going through the process of clicking on "Custom POI" icon, waiting for the databases to load, selecting which database I want, then finally getting to my desired cache or waypoint. The minute I leave that page, I'm out of it, and have to go through the same process every time I try to return to it. Either I'm doing something wrong (the likely case), or this is really a cumbersome way to go back and forth between pages and I'm spoiled by my BlackBerry app.
  6. I've loaded my caches into Custpm Points of Interest using GSAK. A few questions ( I was unable to find answers using the Search): How do I "toggle" between the different pages, i.e., I read info on the cache on the poi page, then go to map or compass or whatever page. . .then get back to the cache (poi) page, e.g., if I want to read a hint, I keep getting stuck having to start all over with the Find button, go to custom POIs, THEN wait for all of the databases (parking, diff types of caches, etc.) to load, THEN select my database, THEN click on the cache page. Other question- how do I go forward in my list of caches beyond what's on the first "page" of them? Additionally, I'm not always sure what I'm looking at with the shorthand on the POI pages, is there a "glossary" for those somewhere. Should I also be seeing the "writeup" (description) of the cache somewhere? Can any macro provide that, given the limitations of the device? Would I be better off just using the GPSr for navigating and my Blackberry app (Cacheberry) for the descriptive stuff? Sorry about all these questions, but this is a bit daunting at first!
  7. Deleting poi's has become VERY handy as I'm trying to understand why, every time I run a macro out of GSAK, it keeps ADDING to the data (duplicating it) I got when I ran it before. It. . .keeps. . .replicating. Rather than just sending me the x number of POIs that cover my 200 caches, it keeps ADDING to my previous times running the macro. I'm thinking there's something about macros I clearly don't understand. Something pretty important!
  8. THANKS! I actually stumbled across the first one you mention. For some reason, my GPS isn't showing up on My Computer on this laptop. Need to familiarize myself with second method you mention. Thanks again
  9. Got WAY in over my head trying to run a macro through GSAK. Let's just leave it at that. Yeesh. There are something like 3570 of them, multiple dupes. EDIT: Figured it out, almost accidentally. Sorry mods! feel free to delete topic.
  10. Thanks! It's actually GarminCsvPoiExport-v2.gsk, http://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=...amp;st=200& , but you've got me thinking about something there!
  11. I guess the topic title says it all. I already have the macro I want to use loaded into GSAK, but can't figure out where to put the POILoader. Right now it's telling me that there's no data in the GSAK folder (there is). I've come so far for a technically-impaired bonehead. What am I doing wrong? Oh, the macro I've installed is to get more info into my 60CSX In GSAK, the CSV export box appears to need a POILOader path? At what point do I plug my GPS in and send? I can't find step-by-step instructions on this anywhere. . .
  12. NEVER MIND, got it; Note to self: stop being an impatient twit.
  13. LAST question. . .maybe! As I am getting "results of your query" (71 caches only), how long should I realistically expect to wait? I know it depends on how loaded the server is (Sunday morning? probably lots of folks hitting it, so may be awhile?)
  14. Thanks for the quick help! Do I need to keep submitting it, or does it automatically generate (after a time) and the boldface "Last Generated" shows up when I refresh my PQ list? Dumb question borne of antsiness.
  15. What is the typical wait time for PQ that has 250 caches along a route? I keep hitting submit, and I get my preview fine, but I see "never" for "Last Generated" in my PQ list? Am I being impatient or should I just keep hitting "submit" until it "takes"?
  16. Mine still says "never". Is that too be expected with what is probably a large backup of PQs running?
  17. I'm having the problem as well. I created new one, generates the preview results fine, but nothing sent and my PQ list indicates its "last run" as "never".
  18. Just trying this now too! I'm guessing "go to the cache detail page for each one you want to bookmark" is the method to get the results over to a bookmark, but as I'm lazy, is there way to bookmark, let's say the entire search result list en masse?
  19. Hmm, well, no email with My Finds file, after waiting overnight. Stupid question here: all my PQs go to bcaching, but there's no way I could have set it up such that "My Finds" go to that email address is there?
  20. I'm clicking on it, and page refreshes quickly, but button does not "grey out" or disable. Is that normal? As I haven't had use for this function since Sept 09, I don't know what to expect. How do I know it's "taken"? Short of waiting a few hours to see if it shows up in my email or not?
  21. I have the application, and before I paste the html code into my profile, I need to pull "My Finds". Last time it ran was Sept 19, 2009. When I press "Add to Queue", nothing happens. I guess the awfully simple question is "how do I create that GPX file into my files on my computer?" I'm using bcaching, so I've evidently forgotten the basics!
  22. Thanks! Found it (alt email) as a provided option when creating a PQ. Thought there was some overriding "setting" I needed to change- this is even better.
  23. Bcaching provides an email address so I can have my PQs sent directly into their database. I'd like to send "My Finds" and other PQs directly to bcaching in this manner. Where can I set this in my profile here? Like several caches this weekend, I'm sure it's staring me in the face and I can't find it.
  24. I'm using B* and I'm having a similar issue: I can save the GPX files just fine (I'm ASSUMING!) on my device, but I can't get them to import into B*. After counting down from 100%, the import just hangs at 0%.
