  1. Here comes another one, and I'm not making this up. I have connected my 60c to the USB port and the display got corrupt - the display was diagonnally smeared. I switched off and everthing was ok. weird
  2. No, there is no problem with find by name in the previous version, so I guess they messed with it.
  3. I know we should stop moaning about the bugs in the fw. but I just can't help myself as I found yet another one that didn't appear in the previous version. When I do find by name in the cities and look for Ostrava, which is one of the big cities here in CZ, I alway press O, S and T and then the 60C automaticly closes the virtual keyboard and presents me w/ 5 cities - 2 from Poland, 1 from Russia, Germany and Sweden. I'm using the Atlantic basemap model. Can anyone try it on their units?
  4. Oh, maybe I know the solution. It seems that the TOPO maps are transparent so you have to use them w/ some other map. Try to upload any other map along with the TOPO.
  5. I had the same problem w/ local DIY TOPO maps - they uploaded but I can't see them in my unit
  6. and if you want factory clear GPSr, just upload new fw. to the unit as the POI gets cleared from the memory by upload.
  7. There was no GPS IV because, number 4 is considered bad luck in eastern asia - for example you won't find room no. 4 in hospitals etc. For the same reason there was never a Palm IV. That said I really can't think of anything the potential successor to the GPS V woud bring over the GPSMAP60 family, only thing being removable antenna and landscape view for car use
  8. buy an Ansmann charger, I've the PowerLine 4 and it comes with prongs for most of the countries you may travel to. Ansmann is probably the best brand in the charger business - well at least from my experience
  9. I know that the new map automaticly erases old maps in the memory, but is there a way to erase the map memory w/o uploading new map?
  10. well it's compatible w/ garmin, meanin that i can upload it to the 60c, the incompatibility means that i can't see any details on the map - but i can see them in the mapsource. it's pretty strange if you ask me. these maps come from independent project called .CZECH free maps. maybe someone can try it on their unit and let me know.
  11. Hello, this may sound stupid but I've uploaded some topo maps to my GPSMAP 60C only to find out that they are not compatible (I can't see them in the map screen, yes I have them selected int he setup menu) so I want to get rid of them I read on the internet that this can be done only by uploadig some other map, but what if I want just the basemap? is there such option?
  12. well it has crashed on me today. i'm running fw. v3.10 on my 60c, i also experinced the "calulating freeze" wich i thing is not a crash but the unit is just calculating the route for longer time than usual - cause it has always shut down after long press on the power button. but today i has completely freezed today. I was using the compass when doing a tackback on 200km track and after about 15 minutes the unit was freezed, i tried to hold the power button but it didn't help so i had to take out the batteries. unfortunately the diagnostic screen shows only "abnormal shutdown" message, which is connected w/ the battery takeout rather w/ the freeze.
  13. maybe if I flash the 60CS fw. to my 60C I will upgrade it to CS...just a thought
  14. Ouch, now I know the coverage was for the BASEMAP in the GPSr. Well if you buy GPSr in US you will have no or very little map details in the unit (and vice versa). But you can always downlod better maps for the region you'll be in.
  15. GPS is working all around the world, the coverage you've probably seen was for WAAS service. In Europe we have EGNOS which is basicly WAAS but controled by Europan Space Agency. So there is really nothing to worry about.
  16. Well cince BW unit would be like Rhino 120 w/o the radio, I would say it will be around $250 IF and WHEN it comes out
  17. When I reached Germin about the BW units in November '03 i received this reply: I would say that the BW units were canceled as Garmin sees the future in color - I thought I will get the BW map model, but after getting the 60C there is no way beck for me. Well I would still concider BW as a backup, all depending on price.
  18. I would like to know if anyone has complete list of "service shortcuts" on the GPSMAP 60C. So far I know only these: 1) On the trip computer page press UP, RIGHT, DOWN, LEFT on the rocker for Diagnostics page 2) press ON + ENTER for system information page, press PAGE for aditional screens 3) press ON + PAGE clears the almanac 4) press ON + MENU is an erase of all user data
  19. I would suggest using blue Loctite 242 on the screw to secure it. I use it on my MTB on the parts that come loose
  20. did you tried to erase the memory? FIRST BACKUP!! then power the unit on with menu button pressed
  21. I don't have my 60C yet (should get it on friday...agrr), but i own a GAMEBOY ADVANCE and when I switch it off I get gazillion of lines all over the display. Are you sure this is not a HW glitch rather than SW bug?
