  1. Well, finally received my order from them today and got a box of the shoddiest bunch of crap I've ever seen. For example, I'd ordered 4 nano caches, the were in plastic containers with extra logs, they didn't thread well and paint was chipping off them, then in a little baggie there were two more (so 5 total), one silver, one black, the silver beat to hell, both much smaller than the other 3, both with super-weak magnets, and both with poorly done logs in them. The whole order was like that. The bison tubes I'd ordered were huge, and not at all what the site showed or what I'd want to use for making a cache with (although the free one they threw in with the order was the right size, another consistency issue), and a fake rock that looked really great on their site was poorly made, had human hair stuck all into the last coat of whatever they sprayed it with, and a base that wasn't a plug, but a slider screwed on that didn't fit correctly, and was cracked. It'll be a couple of weeks of being a high traffic cache before that flap breaks off. Looks like I'll jury-rig it with some velcro or something. Anyway, the end result is these guys suck hard in oder fulfillment time, customer communication, and product quality. I'll never use them again. Arlo
  2. Gah, I too wish I'd seen this thread before ordering. Three weeks since the order, no replies to emails asking what's up. Will not use again. As to the person commenting about making your own. I'm all over that, but I wanted to get Bison tubes, and this place had 'em. :-) Cheers, Arlo
  3. Mission accomplished! Thanks for the pointers. :-) Cheers!
  4. Thanks for the info. I was bummed I had to have one of them get a cool looking coin that had a mission and was trackable, while the other one had a semi-cool coin with no purpose, but I'll be mailing them some coins of their own to start tracking and doing stuff with. I'm really hoping that after all the enthusiasm that was generated this week, they stick with it. I'll just have to keep mailing them stuff to keep 'em going. :-) Cheers, Arlo
  5. Ha! I'd done a search that came up empty, but never Thought to check for a FAQ. Sorry! Thanks loads for the info! I'm sitting at an airport terminal otherwise I'd follow up now. :-) Cheers! Arlo
  6. Hi all, So, as you can see I don't have the most kid-friendly username. I never really thought about kids reading logs until I went out this week with a bunch of kids to introduce them to caching. The older ones knew what the word was, and luckily the younger one didn't ask. Am I doomed to have to feel like an immature dope from here on out, or is there a way to change my username? I know all my physical log signatures will have the old name, but I care less about log issues than I do introducing a kid to a word they may not need to know just yet. :-) Cheers, Arlo
  7. Hi, I've just introduced a new generation of my family to Geocaching and they've LOVED IT. Five kids (and a friend of the family) are all hooked. :-) On day two, they stumbled upon a Geocaching demo at an L.L. Bean and got even more excited about it... but also wanted Geocoins really bad. As luck would have it I had run across a cache that had a couple coins in it, so I grabbed them figuring I'd give them to the kids to take back to their home towns to place, and then they can follow their travels. But... One of the two coins seems to not be trackable, and I'd hate to have a disappointed kid as a result. It's a "Not Another Micro!" from 2005 with the number 132 on the top right, and MFB32 on the bottom. Please help me track it so I can get these girls hooked. :-) Thanks loads! Arlo
  8. I did a few firmware updates tonight, one of which included the Chipset M update which I hear make the Colorado a bit more reliable. Looking forward to testing it out. In fact, I took this week off so maybe tomorrow afternoon I'll give it a whirl.
  9. Ha! Fair enough. I've been basing how much it's been off by standing at GZ with my unit and two friends' units (a 60CS that's my old unit, and a 60CSx) theirs are pretty accurate, and mine was consistently 7' off yesterday and 16' off today. This hasn't, by any means, stopped me from finding caches and having a good time... it's just a little frustrating when you're with one or two other people and they hone in on GZ and find the cache before you even are sure what area to look in. As of today the compass required a re-calibration every time we got to a new site, so I was ready to head to REI and pick up something new by the end of the day. Thanks for the comments, I feel a bit better now... just wish it was a little quicker to hone in on a location than my caching partner's units. :-) Cheers, Arlo
  10. Hi all, I've run into an annoying issue with my Colorado 400t. Seems to always be about seven feet off (or so). It's a good thing I a) don't need the accuracy most of the time and am with at least one fellow cacher so if I need detail, I can get it from them. Anyone know what the deal is? Is this something that can be calibrated on the map or something? I'd hate to have to get a whole new handheld unit just because of this. Cheers, Arlo
  11. Despite not having found a massive number of caches, I've gone through a few GPS units because I'm a total technology fiend. Of the ones I've had, I've never dropped one, or even had a close call. But wouldn't you know it, my latest and most expensive dropped today... and dropped face first on the only rock in the area. While the plastics are scratched up, that's okay, but there's a big old ding in the face of the unit. :-( Anyone here know the best way to get something like that out, or hide it somehow, or if Garmin replaces the screen for really cheap. :-) Thanks in advance for any help! Cheers, Arlo
  12. Alright, all sorted... found the tracking number on another piece on the chain. Will stop by my above mentioned cache tomorrow and if the cache isn't there, I'll be bummed. :-( Thank you all for the last minute advice! Cheers, Arlo
  13. I did, and it doesn't seem to be working. It's TB15VA0, and I'm trying to check it out of where I found it (as I never did), but it says the number is invalid (even though I was able to look the bug up with that number.) I found a cache that's somewhat near the hotel I'm in... but the comments don't look to promising. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...2b-bdd4e002dc5a Arlo
  14. I can't seem to get the log to work at all. It keeps saying "* No Match". :-( Arlo
  15. Cool. The goal is to get as many miles as possible. So, the bad news is there's no caches anywhere near where I am (I guess I'm too close to North Korea). How do I log this as having traveled at this point? (Sorry I'm so dense, just never had a travel bug before.) Arlo

  17. Hi, This is way too last minute to expect an answer, but my caching group and I picked up a travel bug months ago that was never re-placed in a cache. Turns out I have it with me (it was in my caching kit) and I'm in South Korea for one last day. I was going to try and find at least one cache in my last few hours here tomorrow, and thought I'd drop the bug off while I was here. So, my question is... it South Korea way to far to leave a travel bug? I feel horrible that it turns out I've had it this whole time, and this seems like a great place to leave it if it's okay to do so. Worst case I can always log that it went to South Korea with me somewhere, so at least it did a decent amount of traveling, right? :-) Cheers, Arlo
  18. Excellent! Thanks for all the replies. We'll definitely do them as individuals. We will, however, continue to have one person write each name in the group for a given find. Three of us spent the afternoon making our own caches that we're looking forward to placing... and you all are right, I think it would be a shame to miss out on various individual comments. Cheers, Arlo
  19. I've been caching very lightly for the last few years and decided it was time to really get in to it for real this time. Part of that was to get a couple of good friends involved along with my original caching partner. Then, as of this week, a new friend that just moved in to town decided to join out group as well... so now there's five of us. Clearly to save space in logs we need to start listing ourselves as a team (right?), but what's the etiquette for logging on the site? We don't want to have a team account since we all cache on our own as well, but we'd love to be able to define a group that all our accounts are part of in order to log the night's finds without entering five separate entries each time. Is there a way to do this, or should we all continue our individual entries? And if we do continue individual ones, will that create an issue if anyone ever does a log book/web log audit (not that anyone probably ever does those). Cheers, Arlo
