  1. Yep, this is the only way around this in GSAK. I just recently setup my PQs to give me caches by a certain 'date placed' range, all with the same center and radius. Since new caches will never appear in some PQs (because they cannot be "placed" in the past), so if I load the PQ and there are caches that do not get updated in the database that should fall in the PQ's date placed range, then they *must* be archived. This avoids the problem of having caches just fall out of your radius or max # of caches and get stale without having been archived. The trick with this system of PQs is that it takes a bunch of PQs to get a good radius and still pickup all the caches in my area. Plus I had to tweak the date ranges on them to get close to the max # (500) of caches that a PQ will deliver. O.k. let me get this straight. I too have my weekly PQ's set up for all w/in a set radius by date placed (in the case of the dense Emerald City, that makes 6 PQ's for a mere 20 mile radius!) but... I presume you mean to filter them via the "Date" tab in GSAK, setting the "Last update GPX" for any before the last PQ update, yes? But... that doesn't seem to work (it leaves me w/ nearly 300 caches - out of nearly 2000 - none of which are the least bit archived). I'm guessing it doesn't work 'cuz that filter also catches those caches that for whatever reason, haven't had a new log or nuthin' since the last weekly PQ, no? Maybe I should use a 1 week "between" dates for the filter? Naw, then too, caches that hadn't had a new log (but aren't necessarily archived) would be caught in the filter. Probably missing something really ("well, duhhh!") obvious here, but just trying to get this straight 'cuz I too would love a reasonably easy, yet foolproof method of ensuring that I nix archived caches from my GSAK database. I might also add... that gc.com doesn't supply a simple PQ mechanism for such is most disappointing.
  2. Given that you'll not have time for an actual visit to our resident grumpy mountain (Mdm. Helen), the whole family is sure to enjoy the "couch cache" version of the local "Big Bang" - Imax "Eruption of Mount St. Helens". Truly awesome.
  3. I had decided not to post to the bonus feat coin (but have since done so) since it is covered on both here, in the wikipedia and on cachinggames.com Now I don't presume to have a clue about all this TB/coin logging stuff, but... avroair, it looks like for some reason you changed the tracking number link (see quote above) that I originally posted - from PC5VNJ to TB5VNJ and... the PC5VNJ link I posted works, while the TB5VNJ link you changed it to sends you to a page not found. Though I don't understand why, the TB number for the page is TB1AE1D, but the PC5VNJ will get you there as well. And it is the PC5VNJ that is posted in the rules for the game at cachinggames.com In any case, thanks much for updating the TB1AE1D/PC5VNJ page with the 2nd bonus feat. That way I (and the other 42 folks watching the page) automatically get an enmail notification when you add each month's bonus feat.
  4. Thanks Resoltuion and Avroair. I just logged 'em both at cachinggames.com But about that wikipedia bug page... The cachinggames.com rules page says the monthly feats will be posted on the PC5VNJ page, but... presently only the 1st Bonus Feat ( i.e. December/January) is noted there.
  5. O.k. - I'm fiiiiinally on the mend here and able to drop my little Xanadu Traveler on its merry way already. Dropped it in a pre-2002 cache (GC number but 617!) and managed to log it in at cachinggames.com Question izzz... How does one log the bonus feats. I've done both the Dec, and the Jan, but not at all sure how to log them at cachinggames.com in order to get the 10 pts. for the 2 bonuses. Also, did you not say avroair m'dear - that you'd be posting each bonus on this PC5VNJ "80 Caches Bonus Coin" page? It seems to say that (as I recall) somewhere amid the cachinggames.com instructions, but - looks like you've only got the Dec. bonus listed. In any case, how do we log these bonuses at cachinggames.com?
  6. Just curious... Why stop at 40? Why not 60 to use all 50 official + 10 limited edition flavors?
  7. Yup, while certainly not at all essential for general geocaching, a most nifty function that some multi/puzzle caches require. Indeed, I very nearly passed on my Exporist 600 'cuz I too could find nothing in the documentation that the unit had that feature. Wasn't until I actually got my hands on a borrowed Explorist and found it hidden under "Adv. Features". That little honey clinched the deal and I love my sleek little Explorist 600 (I believe the only difference 'tween it and the 500 is the former has an electronic compass.)
  8. And just to get the creative geo-gellybean guices flowing - I couldn't resist whittling a quick latte sample...
  9. O.k. - seein' as I live in "Latte Land" (Seattle), put me down for Café Latte, please. And btw, seems that in your last posted list - looks like there's 2 different folk listed for "blackberry" (both Team macha and crazycavelover.)
  10. Perhaps not the most succinct name, but I call my class: "Geocaching 101: Treasure Hunting for EVERYBODY!"
  11. Ditto here FS - did you get my email about the group?

    Kudos

Great thread Patudles! What better way to inspire the positive side of this silly game than to publicly remember the many random acts of kindness (both big and small) that geofolks have shown. And in that spirit... I'll second that sentiment PP - and add: huge thanks for BOTH ACD adventures in the wondrous land up north! And more recently, I'd like to thank NBJPoppa for kindly offering to tend to a bit of maintenance on my Dumb Luck Detour cache over in my old geosandbox. I've been a tad out of the loop here lately (with a ruptured eardrum and wobbly on my feet) so I sent him a stash of new scratch tickets and he made a special trip on these icy streets to fill the container and check on the final. Truly kind of you NBJP, and I greatly appreciate it.
  13. O.k., o.k. - clearly a bit slow getting started here. But only 'cuz I've been pretty much off the map since the end of December with a most nasty cold and ruptured eardrum (that still has me bit wobbly on my feet.) But I finally have my little "Xanadu Traveler" ready to go and want to get into the ATWI80C sandbox to play. Will shortly drop little Xanna in a "feat" cache nearby, but meanwhile want to pick up the 5 bonus points for this month (I presume the window runs through Jan. 16, yes?) Sooooo... here's my "Up, up and awaaaaay!" bonus photo: Let the FUN begin!
  14. Now THIS one, I'll try my derndest to make!
  15. Well gosh, yeah. After all - FS' initial post clearly stated that attaching a TB was optional (i.e. "...if you like"). And given that all her other brilliant geocoin notions have ever been gc trackables - seems like closing down the thread so abruptly (w/o at least first checking on your assumptions) was a bit rash...
  16. Very suh-weet notion, FS. Just couldn't resist whittling a rough sample...
  17. Blissfully bleary-eyed here, after the ACD gang's 36 hour geoblitz (surely gives the "D" a whole new meaning!) to join our AK friends up north in the land of (presently) PLD (Precious Little Daylight), a.k.a. "The Land of Crunch, Crunch, Crunch". Yes indeed, little more than 5 hours of daylight, merrily did we crunch our way through many a mile of snow-crusted woodland fields (much of them in the dark of night!). Sorry if the smiles should offend anyone who happens to drop in here - we truly did have a most dreadful time...
  18. Yippeeeeee! oakcoins.com kindly replied w/ the correct code for activating my little Xanadu Traveler trinket, and we're now all set for the fun. Let the game begin - up, UP, and AWaaaAY!!!
  19. I would be happy to. Thanks Avroair, but... I've now sent 2 emails (one at their support@oakcoins.com addy over a week ago, and another yesterday directly to oakcoins here in the forums.) Haven't heard back, but hopefully w/ your added help, I can get this coin activated so I can join the the game at cachinggames.com.
  20. Jump up and down three times, put your left foot in, put your left foot out... try the code on the geocaching website with both the "i" and the "1" As I said (both earlier here, and in private email) yes, yes I already tried both ways at gc.com and continue to get a "The Travel Bug you requested does not exist in this system". Indeed, even whilst doing the Hokey Pokey - neither of the variations of the code oakcoins.com gave me work at gc.com. And as I said, I tried sending a note to the oakcoins support email address, but - it's now been nearly a week and haven't received any reply. Clearly they need to give me a correct code so that I can activate the coin at gc.com. Given that they produced the coins for you - perhaps you can contact them and see about getting the correct code for my coin?
  21. Roger that, done days ago and received a code such as E3....IW. Trouble izzz... Firstly, I couldn't quite tell is the "I" was an "i" or a "1", but in any case, I then went to: Tried to log it at gc.com and got a message "The Travel Bug you requested does not exist in this system". This, both for the code with an "i" as well as with a "1". Worse, as true their word, the oakcoins.com site won't give me the code again, nor a new code (i.e. ...failure to receive a code could be due to... activation code has already been received..." And worse still - I sent an email to oakcoins support 3 days ago and - haven't heard nary a peep back. So... question izzz... what do I do now?
  22. All RIIIIIIGHT! Glad to see you set the game up on cachinggames.com avroair (and nice to chat by telly). Surely much more fun to be able to track all the trinkets as they soar to 'n fro. Got my pretties and they are truly splendid - thanks! However... Am I blind, or just a dolt? For the life of me, I don't see any gc.com TB activation number nowhere - neither on the tags nor the packaging. Admittedly I've been (voluntarily) out of the TB sandbox for a goodly while, and dunno how all these trinkets are now managed. The TB tags have no tracking number and the packaging directs to oakcoins.com to activate. Are these not gc.com TB's? Clicking on the oakcoins "Coin Activation" sends me to a page that says I should go to geocaching.com to activate. But alas, I have no activation number save the PC number on the coin. Could someone please clarify just how these travelin' trinkets work? i.e. "...I used the TB# assigned to the coin by geocaching.com..." - wherzzzat?
  23. Goodness, what's with the run on lost Sportrak Map battery holders lately? As posted elsewhere, I have a spare unit. Works fine, just has a cracked screen. Open to offers.
  24. I have a working unit as a spare as well. Honey of a unit, just has a cracked screen. Open to offers...
  25. Yup, very likely - just call Magellan. Their customer support has always been top notch for me. Depends. I had a cracked screen on my beloved Magellan SporTrak Map and they would have fixed it for about $60 (incl. shipping). They also gave me the option of trading in my SporTrak on any other unit (for a fairly substantial discount on the new unit.) Then again, I ended up buying a suh-weet Explorist 600 here in the gc.com forums, so never followed up on either of the Magellan options (though the final decision was tight...) Uh, I doubt it.
