  1. Hi there...thanks....i'll try that link..I am not sure, but i think the meridian MIGHT recognize FAT32 with the later firmware updates...again, thanks.
  2. Hello all. I have a Magellan Meridian. I have both a 16 mb card, and a 128 mb card. The GPS does not recognize either card. It will not show the Card Utilities menu. So I thought that maybe a firmware update might solve the problem. My firmware is 2.90. But I cannot find the update for the Meridian (the green one) on Magellan's website. So, 4 questions: 1. Is there a firmware update for the Magellan Meridian (green one)? 2. Do you think the firmware update might fix my problem? 3. Where can I find the update (Magellan site is down half the time!!)? 4. Do you think something else might be the problem? 5. What might that problem be? Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer. George
  3. I would suggest selling your Venture, and getting yourself an Etrex Legend. There's one for sale here on this forum for $80 delivered to your door. I worked with forestry, and have used GPS receivers AND hard copy maps and compass for years. And yes, you should know how to use a map and compass. However, the convenience of having maps on your GPS is hard to disregard. If you happen to be out for a walk or a drive, and a geocache pops up on your screen, who's to say you will have a map for it on hand at the moment. If you have a mapping GPS you can tell if that cache is on the other side of a pond, or river. Can't beat that.
  4. Hi there....the case that Garmin supplies for the Legend and Vista C, and CX does not allow the user to view the entire screen...it's designed for the older legends and vistas...the extra little bit of width on the c and cx does make a fair bit of difference, so i would not suggest covering part of it with the garmin case...i have used both the garmin and gilsson cases for my Legend CX (same size as your Vista CX) and would definitely recommend the gilsson.
  5. She doesn't need a computer connection. She said she only wanted something to tell her where she is. She can pick one up for 50 bucks canadian no problem on ebay. Sonja, be patient, and you will get yourself a good deal. I have bought many gps's on ebay. I've picked up etrex ventures for $50 including shipping (canadian dollars - i am in canada as well) .. i've picked up the yellow etrex for $41...an emap for $49 (had computer cable and data card for maps)....what you need can easily be gotten for $50 or less Canadian, including shipping.
  6. Someone has one advertised here for $80 !! See if that's still available!
  7. Hi all. I am wondering if Trip and Waypoint Manager will work with the regular yellow etrex. I know it will work with Legend, Vista, Legend C, emap, and so on, but it does not show on the compatibility list on the Garmin website. But i was thinking that it should be able to at least transfer waypoints. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. George
  8. The Legend C and Vista C and the earlier etrexes as well, all use the same mount. It does fit.
  9. Hi folks...i am an owner of a new legend cx...i read on another forum that some units were freezing on startup...also, in my case, when autorouting, the road disappeared occasionally from the highway screen, and the unit would sometimes go into a route recalculation loop...it would just continue to recalculate a route even when unnecessary to recalculate...the firmware update is supposed to cure some of this...particularly the freeze on startup...at least this is what i've read...the legend cx and vista cx are somewhat of a new design because of the data card...and perhaps more minor changes...as with any new unit it may take a few firmware upgrades to get all the bugs out.
  10. Hello all, I recently updated the firmware in my SporTrak color. Now I can't load Mapsend Worldwide maps to the GPS. I think the firmware update is the culprit. I can load other mapsend products to the Color, and I can load the Mapsend Worldwide to my map 330. So the problem is only between the Color and Mapsend Worldwide. My version of firmware in the Color is 5.4. Worldwide is version 1. Can anyone suggest a solution to this. Can I revert back to a previous firmware. Or is there somewhere I can get a free update for Worldwide. Had i know this would happen I would not have upgraded the firmware in the GPS. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
  11. Hello all...i was wondering if the backup lithium battery in the Magellan 315/320 can be replaced...thanks.
  12. I emailed Magellan and they told me that Sportrak MAP does not support Topo Canada...however, further up the line, Sportrak Pro and Color are compatible with Topo Canada. So i sold my map. Has anyone found out that the Map DOES accomodate Topo Canada?
  13. Yes I realize that the sportrak color is still available...and i have read about it on the magellan site...i just bought one...my question is why do some sites (a lot of sites ) state the the item is discontinued by the manufacturer?..and if it is discontinued, why. Example here?
  14. i had the sportrak map which would have been good enough for me...except that it is not compatible with mapsend topo canada....
  15. Hi all....i recently purchased a sportrak color, but have since read on a few sites that this model has been discontinued. I would consider this model to be the top of the sportrak line as it is color, 3-axis compass, and barometer. None of the other sportraks have this. So that makes me wonder why this model would be discontinued whereas the other sportrak models have not. Is there some flaw in this model that i'm not aware of? Or is there another reason any of you know of as to why this model is no longer in production by the manufacturer. Thanks all.
  16. I got one....however i'm still wondering why this model would be discontinued...flawed i wonder??
  17. Hello everyone....i was checking some online stores for the Sportrak Color, and many sites indicate that this model is discontinued...the Sportrak Map and Pro are still manufactured....i thought the Color would be the top of the Sportrak line as it is the only one with color screen, barometer, and 3-axis compass. Has anyone else heard this? Does anyone know why they would stop manufacturing this mode?. Thanks.
  18. how about contour lines...when i looked at mapviewer there wasn't much in the way of contour lines....
  19. yes i do realize that...but really, who is going to be using all the maps...i just want the maps in my area to be fairly detailed...and more importantly, i want what detail is there to be accurate...you mention some roads being lost...what do you mean...logging roads? main roads...i would consider this to be important...if i'm walking through the woods, i would like to know when there is a road close by..
  20. i just looked at the magellan mapviewer....i zoomed in on my area, and it wasn't a very impressive map....is this what the actual map will look like or is mapviewer just an indication.
  21. Thanks for the quick response....any idea where the best bargain is on this software?
  22. Hi guys....i am considering purchasing Mapsend Topo Canada...but i need to know something...on the sites i read, including magellan, it states that the maps cover fro "British Columbia to Prince Edward Island"....however, there is a little more to Canada than that and i live there....Newfoundland...is it or is it not covered? Thanks in advance for any advice.
  23. The Magellan 315 can store 500 user waypoints...not 100.
  24. Do you know if these places ship to Canada?
  25. Hello there...i owned a Magellan 2000 and sold it just a few months ago....my main reason for selling was that it didn't have the capability to connect to a computer, so all waypoints (landmarks) had to be entered manually. I also found it to be slow getting position fixes. However it was accurate. I do believe the the 2000XL and 4000XL HAVE the capability to connect to a PC.
