  1. Can you maintain a Premium member only cache if you are a standard member? My premium membership is about to expire and we don't want to carry on as a premium member but we have premium member only caches. Will this cause problems with maintaining the premium ones we have?
  2. Just seen the new range of Etrex's, they look like just what I need, the etrex 30 even has a compass which works even when standing still!! excellent advice many thanks!
  3. So, after a couple of years of downloading my pocket queries coords onto my Etrex H and data onto my ipod which is an time-consuming affair, I now want one handheld GPS which can easily show the caching pages, logs, coords and maps all in one. I have tried my mobile with trimble app but not as accurate as a gps. I havn't got loads of money so what do you you guys suggest, what do you use for paperless caching? Many thanks
  4. I like this idea. Suddenly all those caches in improbable locations placed by the likes of Cache-U-Nutter suddenly become manageable to those of us who aren't blessed with simian abilities. Think of the service to future finders - you can either climb the improbable structure or you can simply look for the film pot at the base. At a stroke all those extreme 5/5 caches become wheelchair accessible as well. Everyone's a winner! Excellent idea!!
  5. In theory then, we could go to a cache which has had a few DNF's or maybe just ones we simply could not find, take a log book, put it somewhere nearby and then claim as found?
  6. I have actually replaced a log book before but in a big cache that was physically still there. It was GCN79B http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...be-092a61a9b0d9 I also cleaned up the cache (it was a bit damp) and added some new swaps because in was in a great area and the last few logs had specified the log book was missing I happened to have one with us. I also emailed the CO but with no response but everyone since has enjoyed the cache. I did mark this as "found" because I actually "found" the cache. I know everyone obviously plays the game differently. My brother for example went to check on his own cache and marked it as "found" I left a sarcastic note for him....did he forget where it was? He hasn't done it since!!!
  7. While revisiting cache pages of caches I didn't find, I was interested to find a log dated 19th Sept on GC1Q9DR http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...80-10e7217c2d0d I thought "great someone has found it, it must have been there all the time" then I read the log!! It seems that the cacher had not found the cache at all but had put a log book near gz, signed this and logged as found?! Anyone heard of this before and is this accepted practice amongst seasoned cachers?
  8. One way would be to use StreetmapUK to get a map with the position shown then get a screengrab which you can attach to an e-mail. Great ......but how do I screen grab?? I'm a bit useless with computers! Ah ha!! its ok, the wonders of a google search, now I have it sussed. Thanks!!

  10. My local council has given permission for caches to be placed on SSSI land and need me to email them a map or maps of the exact cache locations for their records. Has anyone done this before and if so what is the easiest way of doing this? If I can't work out what program to use prehaps they will be happy with a link to MagicMapIt and a list of coords?
  11. Then why did you write "TFTC!" in your log? If more cacher finders were a little less concerned about hurting the feelings of cache hiders and more concerned about the quality of caches being hidden then this sort of cache may become a little less common. Try writing logs like THIS instead of just writing "TFTC" HA HA Nice one!! totally agree!
  12. Our latest cache is a tank shell holder/case and is pretty big http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...95-05bcb96af4a0 But we want to go bigger and have the perfect cache to hide but as yet have not decided where!
  13. Can't believe these small minded people who want to irritate others for their own pleasure. Would it be a good idea for the CO to put a note on the cache page that the police have been informed to deter them further?
  14. I've never noticed this before but when I click on "Your Friends" from the quick view tab in my profile, I can see how many caches they have "found" but it doesn't show that they have any "hides" although when I click on their profiles they have hidden some geocaches. When I asked my friends, they said they couldn't see my hide either?! Is this a known problem and does anyone know how I fix it? Many thanks
  15. Thanks for the advice, I will know better for the next one!!
  16. I have just dropped of our first travel bug which is a toy soldier attached to a TB. When I looked at the TB page I noticed you can print out an info sheet with the mission. Is it necessary to attach this info or just helpful? Many thanks!
  17. Same thing is has been happening to me for the past few days at one point could not see any cache symbols on the google map so didn't know where they were! It is driving me mad
  18. I agree sadly with all the comments, I am a newbie and have only found a few caches, however the ones found were all full of tat except for the grange arch cache in dorset which had been just restocked. The last one we found in upton country park, dorset was full of tat including a plastic toy soldier, a couple of penny toys and 2 stones, not even nice looking stones. I have always made an effort so far to put something nice in for the next person but it does put you off from leaving anything nice because you wonder if anyone does. Oh well, i'm still going to put nice things in even if just for the kids as it is about the thrill of finding it that appeals to me.
