  1. Wow, are you back from the big apple already? That was a short trip. As far as I understand it, the memory is maintained by the lithium battery only whilst the AA batteries are unable to do so, in fact a small current should be flowing from the AA batteries to the lithium cell to keep it charged/charge it. In theory, if your lithium cell failed completely (as in drew so much current from the charging circuit there wasn't enough voltage available to maintain memory) then it is possible that you could be loosing your almanac data. I personally think thats unlikely but it is certainly possible. So I'd better retract my previous statement . Darn, You might like to get it repaired over there?

  3. Good point Nick, I couldn't agree more! It's just got to be a USB Mass storage device, it certainly makes life a lot easier.

  7. That shouldn't be a problem Gav, only if you have changed your AA batteries! Maybe it's all the skyscrapers over there blocking the signals? Dooh, read my retraction further down the postings [This message was edited by tgsnoopy on September 21, 2002 at 04:58 PM.]

  9. I bought a Fujifilm Finepix 2300 for only $420 which I'm very happy with. It's a 2.1 Megapixel camera which 2.5x digital zoom. It was sold by a student as second hand?? It was immaculate, not a mark on it, the USB cable and driver disks weren't opened and the book was unmarked. As the student selling it has since advertised others for sale for $450 (I talked him down) I'm of the opinion he's importing them and selling them to assist with his finances. He advertises classifieds in TradeMe as opposed to the usual Auctions, He's hamilton based. Might be worth keeping an eye out. I can also Vouch for Design_Design in Hong Kong, he's awesum, both Pricing & service. Drop me a message if you want their e-mail address etc tgsnoopy@xtra.co.nz

  11. My choice would probably be: Eskdale Bush, Geofurby's Incubator, North Shore City - Kendalls Bay

  13. Ok, I've ordered 5 of these little batteries. Hopefully will be here in approximately 7-10 days. Cost will be around $6 each. Anyone requiring them sooner, Standard Communications who import Garmin GPS's into NZ have them in stock in Auckland. Contact Peter Jessop on 09-2740955 in the afternoons (he's the technician and only works half days), they charge around $10 I beleive.

  15. One of my suppliers (Trade Tech) has replied and said they can get the Panasonic VL1220 for me. They wanted an indication of the quantity I wanted so they could price them for me. As I don't think it's urgent at this stage I've opted for a price for a quantity of 5 (I know of 2 geocachers so far who require a replacement) and for the cells to simply be added to their next order (7-10 day lead time, instead of 2 day, but lots cheaper), I should have confirmed pricing later today, and will advise when I know, If they are less than say $7 each I'll order them, but o-one feel obligated to get them off me, If you find a cheaper source feel free to get them there. 19. I've e-mailed a couple of my suppliers for you, should have replies on Monday all going well (including Standard Comms, as I have a radio to send back under warranty)

    Camo-painting

The combination of pinting I'm trying at the moment is a Flat Black Dulux Spraykote Quick dry enamel with stripes of Plasti-kote Camouflage Green and Brown over the top. So far the results have been good, the containers have been a lot harder to find (is this a good thing?). But as far as the containers I'm using not going brittle over time, it's still a bit early to tell, but it looks good so far. I might buy the camouflage Kahki to try as well on my next lot of containers. The camouflage aerosol paints can be bought in by Guthrie Bowron, but don't seem to be stocked, my local store got then by overnight courier, cost about $18 each, but I use a lot less thanks to the cheaper Flat Black undercoat so they should go a long way, I'm also now painting the lids as well, which I didn't before.

  23. Well, what can I say I had to get my GPS12 from someone somewhere.

  25. This one sounds pretty good, a new GPS12 going well below retail with full warranty. If you are in the market for a good GPS watch this auction: http://www.trademe.co.nz/nz-auctions/1797428.htm
