  1. I found a cache tucked under the bottom of a big utility box. (5 feet cubed roughly?) Unfortunately, under that big box there was a hole in the concrete base. I managed to drop the magnetic keyholder down the hole when I tried to replace it. I posted NM, emailed the CO to explain, offered to replace or reimburse him for it. (He doctors a lot of his containers up so they stick well.) He laughed it off and replaced it himself shortly. Nice guy, and a nice caching experience.
  2. I recently moved and updated my home coordinates. I get emails with new caches that have the right miles-to-cache distances, but when I go to the cache page, it tells me the distance from my old address to the cache. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks!
  3. I recently lost one of the rubber gasket thingies on the back of my GPSMAP 60CSX. I couldn't find this part listed on garmin.com so I emailed cust service asking how to order one. I didn't get a reply but today one showed up in the mail, free. Yes, it's likely a cheap part. But still- they don't sell them, but they mailed one out to me when they could have taken the chance I'd get water in my GPSr and need to replace it . I really like my GPSr, now I really like Garmin as a company. Just thought I'd share.
  4. I haven't done any geo-tourism yet but I can tell you that geocaching has shown me unusual and interesting, non-obvious places in my own hometown that I was unaware of. When I travel, I like to see that kind of place, not the Holiday Inn and the tourist traps. Caches (carefully chosen in advance) will help me find those places away from home, too.
  5. I never had the pleasure of meeting him, but I am sorry for your loss. He obviously touched people, which says a lot about him.
  6. I doubt her property rights/boundaries would be treated differently than those of every other owner on the 20+ miles of creek without her making a fuss about it. I have to wonder if that is connected to her irritation at the cache placement. I'd be tempted to place the cache 6 inches off her property line. Wouldn't DO it but it would be tempting.
  7. See ya in first grade then, because I almost wrote the same thing. I think lots of cachers are 40's-ish because we are more into hobbies that we control and can work into our schedule. I work weird hours and have a young child- a hobby that requires a set schedule just won't work for me. I can grab a cache when I have a few minutes on a workday or I can spend a few hours at it once in a while, or I can rush out at night when kiddo and hubby are sleeping. I like getting outside but I'm old enough to want to do it on my terms.
  8. This post got me thinking about location. Caching in and around the White Mountains, there are some great spots. I think my favorite location for one of my caches is my Earthcache, Sabbaday Falls. I got married at Sabaday Falls. We hopped the little fence (can't see it in the pic) and got hitched on the rocks shown in the bottom left photo. It was before I started caching but I have tons of pics of me in a poofy dress on that bridge and at the bottom of those falls. Does that count as a find? More seriously, I was scrolling through this thread and recognized the place instantly from your pics. Isn't it a lovely spot? Thanks for the reminder!
  9. My nearly 4 year old loves "treasure hunting" too. And I love to bring her along. But I have to choose the caches carefully. She's a sociable little thing and loves to tell absolutely everyone we encounter that "We are going treasure hunting!!" It's hard to look for caches and keep an eye on her at the same time. Then there are physical hazards- fatigue, hunger, boredom, bramble bushes... It's a fun thing for us to do together and I think it will get even more fun as she gets older. But at this age, I have to be very very careful and plan ahead or we both get frustrated.
  10. Oh no the pretty new MacBook is not going caching with me. I really like the MacBook and it's only 4 days old- don't see yet another laptop in the works for a while. I couldn't wait to buy a computer and I wasn't going to buy Vista or take a chance on 7- I recall Microsoft making similar claims about how awesome Vista was going to be compared to XP. So I'm a Mac user for a while at least. Unless I can configure the dusty, ancient, slow laptop that has (Gasp) ME on it to work for caching. Cachers seem to be cooler than your average bear. Sad that Mac, who likes that demographic, is lagging behind PCs. Thanks for the thoughts!
  11. Thanks. Right now I'm using the MacBook to read over cache info, then sending the ones I want to visit to the 60CSx one at a time. When I know I want to go to a certain cache, I pull it up on my itouch and take screen shots of the cache info. But I'm finding myself with a little time here and there while in random places, and wishing I could just say "what is nearby?" And I was hoping to carry less stuff with me. I'm looking through maccaching but it's not as intuitive as the other mac stuff. Oh well. Not a perfect world I guess. Thanks for the suggestions!
  12. Hi all! I'm enjoying my new addiction errr hobby, and so far cachers seem like a really cool group of people. Can I pick your brains? I am new to caching and also just made the switch from a PC desktop to a Mac Laptop. So I'm doubly lost. I have created a pocket query and am trying to transfer it to my Garmin 60CSx. The pocket query shows up on my account here but doesn't transfer over. Could it be a Mac compatibility issue? Any suggestions for Mac Caching? Thanks in advance!
