  1. Hello all. I'm relatively new here, I did some caching this summer but have been away from it for the last while. Are we to hibernate in the winter or are there active caches in Manitoba in the winter? I can see how it would be both hard to do and at the same time easy to find if the tracks are leading to it.
  2. What is the correct setting for the position format? I am on hddd mm'.mmm'....what do these letters mean anyways?
  3. I put my vista in a ziploc bag when I take it on the water in my kayak. I read where if it is immersed in water to take the batteries out and dry it out before using. Kinda takes the fun out of it if you are worried it might get damaged in water.
  4. no links but on the "opinions wanted" thread spencersb mentioned refreshing a waypoint and when I have had wonky readings from my vista I'll restart the goto waypoint and it'll seem to straighten itself out. Could that be refreshing?
  5. I read on another thread about "refreshing" a waypoint and was wondering what that was.
  6. Thanks for the tip Kai team, I'll try averaging next time.
  7. Thanks for the tips everyone and no, I don't have a bird called Misty, lol. Thot, I was excited to try that benchmark idea but unfortunately it doesn't list any places in Canada. Do you know if there is such a website?
  8. I am very new to GPSing and geocaching and I am glad I stumbled upon this neat sport, however I too have troubles with my Vista leading me down the wrong garden path every so aften. I was wondering if this next example was normal for a gps. I marked a waypoint, walked away a few feet, went back to the same spot and marked another one, and did this 5 times. When I used the "find nearest waypoint" and "goto" feature it didnt pick the same waypoint every time, in fact it went through them all and I was at least 50 feet in error. The next day I did a "goto nearest waypoint" and it was 400 feet away. Any ideas?
