  1. Someone earlier said that there was nothing interesting near Southern Bowl. Not many geocaches true, but plenty of interesting people, places, and things. Let's also not forget that there are probably a number of trackables out there that have a mission that can't be completed any more. Let's face it. Time passes and APE caches get harder and harder to log. Someday it will be impossible. Respect, Mourn, and move on with life.
  2. This is a bit odd, since I myself spent a huge amount of time and community outreach for a quality EC that has been rejected because it was biologically oriented (I was a new EC developer and had misunderstood the guidelines). I'm psyched about the possibility of having the subject matter broadened a bit, but I don't think these quite meet the spirit of an EarthCache. Back on TOPIC, I was blown away when I had a chance to visit the Falls of the Ohio area. I have never seen a higher concentration of EC's anywhere (Currently 28 in the general area). The ones that CS had have mostly been replaced so I have a fresh crop when I go back I suppose...
  3. I just completed the AGT on my visit north for the ASP Geobash. I completed it in 81 hours door-to-door from Annapolis, MD. 1350 total driving miles. Very little preparation except the first stop to get a passport, and order of the counties so I was well positioned for scooting up to the ASP Geobash. Three FULL days of caching over 4 days (one day's time consumed by driving from/to Annapolis, and the remaining few hours at ASP). Keep in mind I was alone, I had no hotel plans (found a room or a parking spot to sleep when I ran out of juice), and I stuck to ONLY AGT caches unless others were where I parked or directly on the path. That said, I didn't always choose the quickest ones and I did a fair amount of hiking. I ran in to MANY locations where I thanked goodness I had an SUV. It would have been a much longer adventure in a normal car... Oh, I also never stopped and picked up any coin on the trip (not enough time). I just mailed in my passport and now I have all the coins. You can see my path here. Slept in Franklin after Day 1 (after cache #9) Slept in Warren after day 2 (after cache #33). I asked if they had a room available during woodstock. She answered with a laugh. Went off trail to the ASP Geobash after number 36. If you like Ice Cream, you must stop in Mt. Jewett at "My Sister's Place" restaurant between 41 and 42. Seriously. Slept in Emporium after day 3 (after cache #52). Drove straight home after Cache 60. If you have any questions about the AGT or any other caches I visited or DNFd please ask via message from my profile. YOU WILL LOVE IT!
  4. Several new trails announced in the last few weeks. Thanks to everyone who sent updates! www.corfmania.com/geocoinchallenges
  5. Also: There are 3 new trails in the mid-atlantic region (Wicomico, Capt. John Smith, and Main Street WV) that I know of or are coming soon! Also, the south Mountain trail in PA is apparently now awarding coins. It was listed as requiring 30 finds but they didn't have that many caches published.
  6. I started a similar list a while ago and came across this thread. With the kind permission of Scarecrowe I've recreated and updated this as a permanent web page. Please let me know directly if there are any updates, or continue to post here. If you have any suggestions, pass that on too! http://www.corfmania.com/geocoinchallenges
  7. Education is the primary goal of an Earthcache. Visiting AND satisfying the logging requirements constitutes a find. The first to satisfy both is the FTF imho, regardless of when the visit takes place.
  8. Delete the cookies on the phone (Settings -> Safari -> Clear Cookies). Unfortunately you have to delete all of them, but it will then ask you when you click on a link whether to associate them with safari or the gs app.
  9. Milestone caches are very meaningful to me, and a lot of folks I know. #100, #1000, or whatever. If GS implements showing milestone caches, then they will need a way for the user to change the LogID since people often accidentally log finds out of order. It is pretty simple to fix that problem using GSAK and findstatsgen, but it would be the cat's meow if I could just go in to GC and change the find order. Oh, and +1 for the ideas of a stats upload API and Opt-In
  10. I'd say the most reasonable explanation is because not everyone chose to wear it. At any rate, hunting was closed on that day, which was one of the reasons it was chosen.
  11. Remote location, injury, evac. Enjoy this shameless plug for my video. Seriously, have fun, but don't forget stuff happens. Cache prepared... it made this a pretty straightforward event (for the uninjured of us).
  12. I explicitly state on mt EC's that I must have the answers within 7 days of logging. That gives people a reasonable time to submit their answers, or a reasonable amount of time to ask for an extension if they need more time. You can ask for an extension in your log. But, them's my rules and mine only.
  13. I snagged a couple a while ago without trying at all. Easy as pie when the stars align. Flew to Sao Paulo Brazil, drove 5 hours into the jungle, bam.
  14. Check out the Knowledge Book Article all about Premium membership, and welcome! thanks for helping support the hobby!
  15. Is there a high quality version of the EC logo anywhere?

I had the pleasure and honor of beta testing this app on my cartridge here in Maryland. Haha I just noticed it is in the screenshot of the app in the app store. I can't tell you how pleased I am it made it through the approval process. I was sending good karma vibes to Apple for weeks! Congrats on the app!
  17. Not sure when retro happens, but right now I have 4.
  18. Is there some overriding policy consideration that drives this ? Or is it just more bureaucratic folderol that we have come to expect as part of "life". They decided to more rigidly adhere to their standards I assume. I have no basis in fact except to compare my recent review experiences to some published ECs of similar phenomena. Sure, it makes it harder to reach the bar, but everyone benefits, particularly the finder.
  19. Nobody said it was easy. Believe me, I have a couple EC's that were rejected and once I had the discussion with the reviewer it was clear that they would not work. Hours and Hours of time spent, but not wasted. Part of the process is to educate yourself first. I have another 2 in work right now that I think will eventually get published, and one in review that I hope to goodness will pass muster, but if not, onward and upward. I've poured hours into research, but hey, they are subject to review and I know that going in. Compared to some published ones the standard has definitely been raised, that's life!
  20. Sort of off topic, but I just submitted one for publication. It is urban, and it was extremely difficult to come up with logging requirements that prove it was visited because of the utility of google and bing street view.
  21. You can also use FizzyCalc for this, as well as a number of other useful things.
