  1. The iPhone is the only one I've used, and with the Geocaching app it's really convenient. Pulls up a list of nearby caches in order of proximity with the full description/hints/log page. Once you've found or not found it you can post a log straight to Geocaching.com and move on to the next one on the list.
  2. Just moved from the west end of Huntington to Barboursville in March. I think a WV even sounds great, count me in.
  3. I just purchased a 60CSx and want to get a version of City Navigator North America to enable better turn by turn navigation etc for use with both travel and geocaching. I'm wondering if there are used versions from 2008 or something that will still have all the streets and maps that are at a discounted rate as opposed to the 2009 NT version that's about $100 I think. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks
  4. I only have one cache out there at the moment, it's been found a bit and I don't think anyone has traded anything yet. Yes it's unfortunate that the contents degrade over any period of time when the etiquette clearly states to trade even or upwards. I keep forgetting to take trade items with me so the few things I have seen in caches that I would trade for I left for someone else. There's a quote by someone that says something like, "Honesty is not measured in the presence of others but in the presence of only yourself." This fits the situation since most of the time you find a cache there's no one there monitoring your trading etiquette. Anyone know the actual quote?
  5. Haha this sounds like fun and I just so happen to have a bison tube and a pine tree in my back yard. I may try this tonight.
  6. Don't think of it as an embarrassment. Think of it as an honest report of the result of a search. (I can think of several caches that I logged 2 DNFs on and I think there is one I logged 3 before I finally found it.) I operate the same way. I logged two DNFs on a cache recently that turned out to be a guard rail grab. If I make a visit to a site and leave without finding it I log a DNF. It's both an honor system for my own personal "scoring" and a way to signify to the cache owner that they might want to make sure the cache hasn't been muggled or is missing for some other reason.
  7. I'm a complete beginner but other than the cache adoption circumstances listed above I think it seems a bit weak. That's kind of like playing chess against yourself and consciously letting one of 'yourselves' win.
  8. I kind of like the idea of keeping the number of size classifications to a minimum to avoid a snowball effect where eventually there's a dropdown menu with 10-15 options on it and you know exactly what the cache will look like before you even get within 500 feet. The two nanos I've found were both listed as nano's in the description anyway.
  9. So what are some of the other cache spots you guys have seen that are kind of on par with a LPC in terms frequency / redundance?
  10. Is it usually customary when placing small normal or large cache to leave at least one item of higher value to reward the FTF? Or do folks usually try to use a blend of equally valuable stuff in order to give a better variety of options?
  11. I guess I can see how they might get old as a veteran cacher. I just found my first one the other day so my tolerability level is still relatively high. I must say at this point unrolling and rerolling the log inside two nanos I've found was a bit more trying than the LPC.
  12. Where can one find out which local forested areas and parks are regulated by the NFS or by someone else?
  13. Hey guys, I'm a newcomer from the Huntington/Barboursville WV area. I'll be doing a lot of viewing/posting during the 9-5 hours if "they" don't eventually block this site . I have about 12 or so logged finds and one published cache, and look forward to getting to know everyone in the future.
  14. Ahh ok, so like a micro in a field of overgrowth or something?
  15. "You can avoid any cache you want. I came across a NIH cache the other day. The second I knew it was a NIH cache I left. Won't log it as a DNF. If they had a specific log for "Should have never downloaded it" then I would log it that way." I'm a newcomer to the sport. What's a NIH Cache? Thanks, Decemberspill
