  1. I think the original JB Weld is kinda messy. I have had good experiences with their "WaterWeld" marine epoxy putty stick, or other brand equivalent.
  2. I usually cache very light, so I rarely have replacement logs, baggies, etc on me. One the few occasions I did, I took a picture of every page/side of the old log and posted the pictures with my comments. I've never contacted the CO about returning the log, but I held on to 'em for a few days in case they contacted me. Here is an example of one such log on a cache that I adopted, adopted out, then readopted shortly after this cache maintenance. Becker Bottoms cache maintenance
  3. There, I fixed it for ya. Since you are so happy to correct others, I thought I would do the same for you. "Not all those who wander are lost" Quoted from wikipedia: "All That is Gold Does Not Glitter" is a poem written by J. R. R. Tolkien for his fantasy novel The Lord of the Rings. It alludes to an integral part of the plot. The poem reads: All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring; Renewed shall be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be king. Good work - keep that red pencil sharpened. You nailed it from the literary angle, & I made a point about caching. Reading the "glitter and gold" line, that's one that a lot of non-literary types get wrong. So again, keep that red pencil sharp! Right, because those words can only be arranged in that one particular order to make sense. Just because a sentence is similar to a specific reference does not mean it has to exactly conform to it. "Geocaching - I Love it!"
  4. Here's a log from April 2009 on a cache I own...
  5. Recently, I found some St. Anthony (Patron St. of lost/missing articles) coins that I have been trading with
  6. Quick and dirty translation: have a garmin etrex10 recently I'm a premium member on mob.app I like the maps, caches (found and not found) on my garmin (over) again. is that possible? if so how?
  7. It does to me. It's the little things that bug me. It would be like a picture hanging in my hall that's slightly off-kilter. It would eat at me every time I looked at it. See above. Everything must be consistent. I don't mind not logging my hosted events. creating an account to create a cache to log it with my main account opens up a whole 'nother can of worms. I have issues with that...
  8. it's easy enough to get a 5/5 on your grid though. someone will post a challenge cache that requires getting all 7 souvenirs of august. Can't happen. Cachers starting after 30 Aug 2014 could never complete it, therefore it won't get published. They could if they got all the caches on the 31st...
  9. I don't think improved accuracy will affect things to the point of ending the hobby. Personally, I wouldn't mind if my GPS took me exactly to the cache, as I am often more interested in the area the cache is hidden in, not the actual cache itself (providing it is an interesting area).
  10. Really? All that work saves time?? I'm sure it happened once somewhere, but to say this is a rampant practice would lead me to call it a rumor about an urban legend. I didn't say it was a rampant practice. I am saying I have seen it happen before. I guess I could word it slightly different...
  11. I found this one "in the wild" back in 2005. It was a challenge to nab it before anyone else. I think carrying it to an event to pass it around is uncouth. But, some cachers will do anything for another smiley, like hide a bunch of caches around town under a sock puppet account to log them with their real account. Let them do what they want to do. I wouldn't log it at an event. Similar topic, there is a cacher that I know of that has had in his possession a YJTB (that's not his own) for 8 or 9 years that he brings to events so people can "discover" it.
  12. I'd found caches that had been run over by bulldozers, crushed by falling trees, and chopped up by bushhogs. The cache containers ranged from barely scraped to pancaked.
  13. I am of the "shouldn't log your own event" school, though I won't knock others if they choose to. (off-topic explanation:) I have 1 CITO and 1 event I hosted. I didn't log "attended" on those two. I never occurred to me that people can do that. So if I log an "attended" on future events, there will be an inconsistency in my logging habit. If I go back and retroactively log them, it will throw off my milestones (I know I can lock them, but I know they will be wrong). I'm a little weird... Anywayyyyyy.... I will be attending an event hosted by another cacher later this month, but I have set up a quick meetup the afternoon of the 31st to give area cachers one last chance to get the most elusive of the 7 souveniers.
  14. I'm more concerned with caches under lamp skirts. That's what started this whole thread!
  15. Really ? How 'bout a NM first. I don't believe most would go straight to an NA. Had one similar where a cacher swore it was no longer there, as someone they were with found it earlier. - Yeah, about two years earlier, before it was moved due to muggles. If one of them used a GPS, they'd have known that... I recently DNF'ed a cache that was placed by an absentee cacher. It hadn't been found in a year and had gone missing in the past. I searched the area thoroughly. I posted my DNF, and, even though the cache owner hadn't logged on in a year, I posted a NM to give other cachers a heads-up. Well, I got a text from another cacher a couple weeks later saying he found it in great condition... I was so sure it had gone missing, but I guess I was wrr-r-r-r-r.... wr-r-r-r-r-r... Like the Fonz, it's hard to admit when I'm not right
  16. It's just temporary until the plumbing comes in.
  17. When I started caching, I used to trade even or up, or just leave items without taking. Nowaways, I cache light, usually not carrying any swag (or perhaps a few St. Anthony tokens). As such, I don't take things out caches, unless they don't belong (lighters, shotgun shells, candy, etc). There have been times that I saw a little trinket or token that I'd like to have, but, having nothing to trade, I left it. I would surmise that the cachers that found your cache were caching light with children. The children really wanted a toy (as they do), the cacher had no swag to trade but gave the child a toy out of the cache anyway. I could write a 3 page commentary on over-indulging children, but I digress. My little boy usually wants to take something from a cache, but if I don't have anything to trade, I will explain to him we cannot take without leaving something. If we are close enough to the car, there is usually an abundance of toys stuffed under the seat that we can trade with.
  18. There was a geocacher 'round here that would call it a "catch". He went geocatching to find catches.
  19. Around here (Mississippi) we say it SEA-tow. SEE-toe just sounds weird.
  20. I just tried it, and I didn't have a problem pre-dating logs. When I did click on the date box, it pulled up a calender for just August, but by me deleting the month ("08") and replacing it with "07", the calender changed to July.
  21. Didn't I read somewhere you had to go view the main 7SoA page here ?
  22. Nude caching...Hmmm. I would most definitely have to get in better shape before I give that a try. I'd need a tan, also. I could just see the local news reporting that some unsuspecting hiker had spotted the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, or the Michelin Man, in the local park.
