I have only been Geocaching for a month. I use a TomTom 130. So far it has been right on. I use it to navigate to the area using the main screen, then switch to the GPS status screen where the screen shows me the coordinates in Deg MM.MMM. You can change configuration to see seconds, but I have never used this option. There is also a compass circle showing where you are compared to the coordinates. I haven't exposed it to any abuse, yet. So I can't speak to ruggedness.
