  1. I've rolled my Jeep a few times... but it just keeps on going... ----- Matt K7MTO
  2. Hmmmmmmm....maybe I'll reconsider my offer to have you drive my car back to Phoenix from Portland... ----- Matt K7MTO
  3. quote:I remember getting around 30-50 feet with my GPSIII before SA was turned off. I was going to say maybe location had something to do with it, but you're not that far from me. I never got better than a few hundred feet accuracy in years prior to SA deactivation. I mostly used Garmins with a 12XL being the most recent at the time. I guess the III just had better reception. ----- Matt K7MTO
  4. Good job, Criminal, although before SA was disabled one was lucky to get an accuracy of about 300 feet. Probably a typo on the editors part. ----- Matt K7MTO
  5. I thought it was pretty funny when I brushed the ferns aside and saw the beans! Very fitting ----- Matt K7MTO
  6. LOL - I see you were quick to edit your profile before everyone read what was there! sheesh ----- Matt K7MTO
  7. What's your point and how does your statement have anything to do with Woodster's request for 4x4 caches in his area? If he wanted to walk to them he wouldn't have posted this thread. Sounds like a troll trying to turn this thread into a 4x4's are evil and destroying mother earth thread. Judging from the comments in his/her profile (if you have a problem with geocaching.com, just leave) they sound antagonistic by nature. ----- Matt K7MTO
  8. Team360 - I just returned from visiting the site. I placed a wooden stake in the indentation in the ground behind the cluster of stumps. There was/is also a ziplock baggie with a can of beans (not the original can) placed by someone who had logged the Un-Original and found the Original spot. The flora (lots of ferns) has grown quite a bit since my last visit and it took me a few minutes to find the hole, even though I knew where it was. The stake has a a blue and white For Sale signe on it. It was leftover from a home for sale in our neighborhood and I left the blue and white sign on it to make it easier for you to locate it, even though you may need to brush away the ferns even to see the sign. The spot is literally only 10 feet from the edge of the gravel toward the uphill end of the gravel area. Standing in the road looking across the gravel area you will see trees to your right and left with a treeless area between. The spot is just left of the treeless area, along the flat area between the gravel and where the hill starts. This should get you close enough to find it amongst the ferns. Hopefully, the stake/sign will still be there when you arrive (should be as it's semi hidden). Either way, once you find the stump clump, you'll see the hole just behind it. While there I signed the logbook in Un-Original. Be sure to log it while you're there. ----- Matt K7MTO
  9. Before anyone else asks - I have no more coins to give away. Sorry, my good deed for the day has been done ----- Matt K7MTO

  11. See my post (offer) in the duplicate thread in the General forum. http://ubbx.Groundspeak.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=5726007311&f=4016058331&m=67460167 ----- Matt K7MTO
  12. I've got a couple I ordered and haven't done anything with yet. We're moving to Phoenix later this year and I figured I'd wait and place them around there when I get there. Contact me offlist with your address info and I'll send one down. ----- Matt K7MTO
  13. I do - see my post in this thread... http://ubbx.Groundspeak.com/6/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=5726007311&f=4016058331&m=75560957 Sorry, I'm out west so I can't recommend any caches near you. ----- Matt K7MTO
  14. Here's my last geo-booboo... http://jbjeep.terahex.com/OBH8anniv/images/P2080040.JPG It was actually a club run, but I did hunt a cache in the forest while we were there, so it happened on the trip to the cache. No harm done, just flipped it back onto it's feet and kept on goin' ----- Matt K7MTO
  15. Nice to hear from you again, Dave. I'd planned on visiting the site to place a stake where your cache had been so those planning on placing the plaque will know the precise spot to place it. I plan to do it this weekend, but if you're closer and want to do it, let me know. If I do visit the site, I'll probably go take a walk back to the Billy Graham tree also. I love that place. ----- Matt K7MTO [This message was edited by makaio on August 06, 2003 at 09:52 AM.]
  16. Found one more pic..added link to inital post. There's yet another pic but it appears to be corrupt. If I ever get it to load, I'llupload it also. ----- Matt K7MTO
  17. Notice the difference in flora from when I found it (not long after the road crew visit) and when Moun10Bike visited last year... http://www.switchbacks.com/files/PhotosGeocaching/020420_010.jpg It's hard to tell in my low quality pics, but the group of stumps (near Moun10Bike's knee) are in the lower left of the photo. I resubmerged the can of beans (see the Cache History) back into the cache when I left and it was removed by DU when he pulled the bucket. I imagine they now reside in a landfill beneath tons of garbage or have been converted to natural gas by this time ----- Matt K7MTO
  18. With all the talk of the memorial plaque, I thought I'd post these for folks who might be interested. I finally found two pics I took of the first cache (Original Stash) and the infamous can of beans when I found it in it's state of disrepair in Sept 2000. http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/19186_200.jpg http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/19186_300.jpg http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/19186_400.jpg Green circle shows the clump of tree stumps Red circle shows location of the cache ----- Matt K7MTO [This message was edited by makaio on August 05, 2003 at 03:53 PM.]
  19. Remember when this looked more like this ? Ahh, the good 'ol days... ----- Matt K7MTO
  20. I managed to find a couple of pics of the Original Stash and infamous can of beans when I located it back in Sept 2000. Sorry for the low quality images. http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/19186_200.jpg http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/19186_300.jpg Note the 3-4 gallons of water in the 5 gal bucket. The second shot is how it looked when I found it - prior to removing the lid which was only partially covering the bucket. ----- Matt K7MTO [This message was edited by makaio on August 05, 2003 at 09:12 AM.]
  21. Dave who? I thought he lived in Beaver? The last time I spoke with him (just after he removed all his caches) he said he wasn't against caching, he just didn't want to participate anymore as he had other projects going on. He said he removed his caches since some were plundered and he didn't have time to maintain them. I'm sure he has no opinion one way or the other about the plaque. ----- Matt K7MTO
  22. With our impending move from Portland to Phoenix, I'm too strapped to donate cash. Being one of the few who actually visited/saw the Original bucket and can of beans, I've told Team360 I will donate my time either showing or marking the precise spot where the Original Stash once rested so they'll know where to place the plaque. ----- Matt K7MTO
  23. This month and next Earth is catching up with MARS, an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history. The next time Mars may come this close will be in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers con only be certain that Mars has not come this close to Earth in the last 5,000 years but it may be as long as 60,000 years. The encounter will culminate on Aug. 27 when mars comes to within 34,649,589 miles and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of minus 2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification, Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August, Mars will rise in the east at 10 PM and reach its azimuth at about 3 AM. But by the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30 AM. That's pretty convenient when it comes to seeing something that no human has seen in recorded history. So mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month. Share with your children, and grandchildren. No one alive today will ever see this again. ----- Matt K7MTO
  24. Geosense or perspective? I've got two little ones and sometimes you have to get down to their level to see what they see. Could be the tall ones couldn't see the object from above where he could with his (lower) angle of view. Still a beneficial asset when cache hunting ----- Matt K7MTO
  25. quote:journalist here...*yawn* travelpig apparently is not a very good journalist. He/she started a sentence with a verb, ended a sentence with a verb, and didn't punctuate properly. ----- Matt K7MTO
