  1. quote:Its a fact that the average geocacher is a 37 year old, married male, with 1.5 children and works in IT. I think that is the average anything, but it does closely fit me. Gotta admit, though, when the whole family goes caching, the wife and I argue over who gets to carry the .5 child ----- Matt K7MTO
  2. Thanks, Rebel. Caches near coordinates shown on the show. They apparently spent alot of time around Mt Tamalpais State Park. quote:Flash Screen:N37.54.568 W122.34.873 nearby caches - closest 1.3 miles === quote: Little Yellow card:N37.53.00 W122.37.500 nearby caches - closest just 0.4 miles. === quote: Garmin:N37.54.555 W122.36.873 nearby caches - closest just 0.2 miles (and depending upon when they filmed this, they could've been first finders - hidden 7/26 with only one find just yesterday) ----- Matt K7MTO
  3. No worries, Shibby. I just thought it'd be cool to plot where they were, then see how many geocaches they *could* have hunted I didn't think of it until a split second after the shot of his eTrex was gone. ----- Matt K7MTO
  4. quote: In-flight snack on the way home. That just ruined my appetite. Between the B.O. from all the sweating you did placing that plaque and those beans, I feel for those around you on that plane j/k ----- Matt K7MTO [This message was edited by makaio on September 10, 2003 at 08:26 PM.]
  5. True - even the road crew who (presumeably) plundered it took everything *but* that can btw, 360 - where'd the beans go? I thought you were gonna bronze them? ----- Matt K7MTO
  6. Did anyone record it? At one point, while doing the Geodashing thing, they showed his eTrex with coords displayed. I'm curious where those coords show he was located. Maybe the bay area since that's where they did the Hummer thing? How close was he to an actual cache? ----- Matt K7MTO
  7. I'll corroborate his claim. I found the beans back in 2000 when they were still in the waterlogged bucket and again at the plaque placement - it's the same can. (it really is - even had some beans still in it which makes you wonder what kind of preservatives they used) Besides, I have the Champagne bottle the plaque was toasted/christened with. It'll be going up on eBay right along with the can ----- Matt K7MTO
  8. quote:OUCH! Man, I don't know how you guys cache up there without being a bloody mess at the end of the day...at least down here in the desert, you can see 'em coming and walk AROUND them They're attracted to black ----- Matt K7MTO
  9. We used to do these alot for our cache pages. A forum search for panorama will show lots of threads on this. Team Exocet used to use a reflective globe to get some amazing shots. Your location is certainly one that deserves a panoramic view. ----- Matt K7MTO
  10. Oh, I know. But I have to justify (to myself and my wife) why I spend so much money on my Jeep! ----- Matt K7MTO
  11. According to this site it's 281,600. I'm lousy at math so I'll leave it to someone else to confirm or deny. ----- Matt K7MTO
  12. True, you can sink alot of cash into an off-road machine, but most of those are purpose built and not street legal. I've probably got about 20K in mine (including cost of the vehicle (free)) and it's a very capable (street legal) rock crawler. If you wheel it hard you do have to fix things constantly, but many of us also do all the work ourselves, including building some of our own parts which saves alot of the cost. Of course, JEEP does stand for Just Empty Every Pocket On the flip side, most people who drop 50K + for a Hummer or H2 aren't too keen on beating them up offroad. I might even get one someday if I ever make more money than I need. ----- Matt K7MTO
  13. The_Rocks solution beats the heck outta mine. Great job! ----- Matt K7MTO
  14. quote:Yes, with $2K in tires and special equipment! Can your jeep re-inflate its tires should one go flat Alot more than $2000, actually, but still far less than a Hummer (Humvee) costs. No, can't do the tire trick, but a Hummer can't reinflate a flat tire either, it can only decrease and increase it tire pressure on the fly. If the tire's flat, they gotta get out and change it just like the rest of us ----- Matt K7MTO
  15. I always knew Hummers, while great for desert or high-speed off road travel, sucked for typical, slow, rock crawling off-roading, but 22" max wall height? Thats pathetic. My Jeep can climb a 4' wall with no problem. ----- Matt K7MTO

  17. quote: posted September 09, 2003 09:01 AM I'd go with martmann's version. Nice work. Easier to read than the spiral text which would probably just give a non-geocacher a big headache I have to agree with this. The sprial was just a quick test on my part. Level text is much less strain on the eyes/brain. ----- Matt K7MTO

  19. I'll be moving down there in a month or so. If it's still idle, I'll make it my #1 cache to hunt. FWIW, it took over a year for someone to finally log my Mr McGrew cache. To date, it still has only one find. Then again, it's waaaaaaaaaaay off the beaten path. ----- Matt K7MTO

  23. quote:It may only be thirty-odd feet, but it's not an easy thirty feet. Poison Oak. Those infernal holes. Some kind of pricker vines. And it's uphill. You should've heard 360 on the way in... "What is this, Jurassic Park? Look at the trunks on these thorn bushes!" ----- Matt K7MTO
  24. What's the point behind passing TB's around an event cache so folks can log the numbers, then go post pickups and placements out of and back into the event cache? The only reason I can figure is purely for count/stats reasons and IMO this is ridiculous. I'm not one who cares about stats, but I have no problem with those who place more emphasis on stats than I do. The problem I encountered with this phenomenon is this: I picked up a TB at an event cache (actually took the TB when I left). I logged this on the TB page. Before I had a chance to place the TB into another cache, multiple people from the event who had written down the TB number, logged it as picked up, then placed from/to the event cache. When I logged the local cache I'd placed the TB into, I couldn't log the TB placement as it no longer appeared in my inventory because of these other logs. Naturally, I didn't record the number as I expected it to be in my inventory when I placed it, so now I have to track it down from the owner or one of the other folks who logged it. ----- Matt K7MTO
