  1. Brilliant the maps are broken again:( Another day spent indoors trying to make a fix script instead of going out to play Ever heard the expression "If it ain`t broke don't fix it"
  2. lol, Goes to show you should hear the full story first before commenting Still pi33ed at the new maps though... to be fair... they are crap
  3. Found a script that fixes the mess made... and it was free ! go figure! Also; now Groundspeak is not paying googly will my membership be reduced?
  4. This awesome, many thanks... just been throwing teddies about in frustration at the new site changes then found this Proper satellite, and OS maps, Brill, I`ll owe you a drink
  5. Ok which idiot broke the website? Maps are dont load up properly, complete fail on linux system using chrome. No satellite imagery. No distance scale. Maps ugly and unusable. Map selection is crap outside the US. Epic fail Groundspeak.
  6. Personally after my experience I will stick with the rating I put on a cache and not change it. I have cache (it was my third hide) which I rated following the guidelines. Everyone kept saying I had rated it too high and after constant badgering and a little more experience in doing `extreme` caches I bowed to pressure and dropped the rating....... ... the moaning I then got Moral is: you cant please everyone, there will always be someone who is not happy and ratings can sometimes be subjective. Check, before you publish your cache, that your happy with it then stick to it!
  7. I reckon we would be interested, if our hectic schedules allows. There was camping event held this year near Henfield which is localish to Crawley. See GC2M1T2. Was not a bad camp site, and the event was well attended. LOL just remembered... you were there aswell
  8. Ok... my 10pence worth... When I first saw the challenge thing I too, like most, was horrified at the idea, "wot the hell has this got to do with caching, rant rant rant" But have had a look at a few and some look fun and some a bit lame. In fact I have now placed one myself (a fun one for a giggle.) But I agree with most of the ranters that this is not `geocaching` and I am glad it is separated from the `cache count`. I`m not a numbers player but proud of the few caches I have found, and if the challenges get separated to another website and I can understand why. But in the mean time I intend to enjoy doing a few myself as fun diversion.(as well as continuing with my serious caching addiction.) But what is really p33ing me off is the fact there is someone(s) giving negative votes to challenges as soon as they are published. Throwing your toys out the pram and being a killjoy is just pathetic. If you dont want to have anything to do with challenges, dont click the button! simples. At the end of the day its just another game. (well apart from the serious business of the tuppaware in the woods)
  9. At least they will be ads I might have some interest in, and facebook is just the same Not that I see ads as I use ad-block on my browsers
  10. Quite a few new people on my geocaching circle which is great. Thanks for the positive replies, and its great sharing in others caching experiences. I have not had much time recently for caching . But hopefully in the next few weeks I will catch up.
  11. I have google+ and have set a geocaching circle to post caching related info to my cacher friends and share adventures, helpful hints etc. Thought if anyone else would like to they can add me add me here (Let me know your cacher so I can put in the right circle)
  12. The wife and I were once quietly crossing a field when we heard a sound like thunder, looked round and a herd of young bullocks were charging towards us This resulted in us jumping a barbed wire fence.(hint: I threw my jacket over the top of the fence where we climbed over to save losing any valubles! Its an old jacket I wear so dont mind the odd hole too much) Once over the fence we were trapped by the hedge behind and ended up scurrying underneath to the next field! Much shouting and waving arms did not budge them from their curiosity! ( not even shouting `big mac` at them) We also had trouble where a horse would not let us through a gate, he came over to say hello but was pushing agaisnt the gate and it would not budge. I had to distract it with grass further down the field so the wife could make it past. ( I`m braver and had no problem walking across the field with a friendly horse following on my heels. From experiance, when i see livestock, espcially cows, I always stick to the edge of a field so I have a quick escape route, and always grab a stick, not so much a big clobbering one but more a long swishy one like a whip.
  13. Unless there is a bonus and I need to collect the numbers. The times I have forgotton to check the cover for C=5 or whatever then had to guess the where the final bonus is!
  14. I have GeoHunter installed, it works quite well on my desire and I can download GPX files to it. Although I use a garmin to actually find caches as smart phones dont have fantastic battery for a whole day of caching with the GPS on. I tried GeoBeagle which is similar but i did not like the icons and it did not `feel` as good for me.
  15. Really? Wind in space? You're an American. I can tell. What complete and utter rubbish, the out of position satelites are nudged back into place by giant turtles. turtles? dont be silly, Ive seen the bloke in his hi-viz vest and a ladder re-setting them - and he looks nothing like a turtle.
  16. Hello and welcome, welcome to the addiction theres no cure for! I have to agree with some of the above comments and wait till you have done a few caches before hiding one, I was over hundred finds before I started placing. (also I found that google earth can give you accurate co-ords when placing if you can pinpoint the location. I have actually zoomed right in on satelite view and counted fence railings to the exact spot of where I placed a cache) Also I use a Garmin etrex h (about £80 when I bought mine) it is very accurate and the battery will last all day. Make sure you get the high senstivity one, thats what the `h` stands for. My brother got the cheaper one but it is nowhere as good. My smart phone comes along and is used in tandem for info and co-ords and checking past logs when i have trouble finding a cache. (the phone gps drains battery and is not quite as accurate so have it switched off, also switch off bluetooth and wifi to get the extra mileage). However I do use the Phone on its own if I am on quick cache and dash or on a race to FTF Happy hunting.
  17. Missing TBs... just thought I would mention that my little girls TB went missing, the last cache it was at, someone reported that there was none of the trackables listed in it still there. We decided that it was MIA. However six months later and I got an email this morning saying it has been found in a cache in Arizona USA. So never give up hope for them.
  18. Hello to new cachers, I`ve been caching almost 2 years and have over 1000 finds now. I am not as expert as some but if you want some help just give me a shout. I am based near Gatwick, sussex. Ocean67
  19. Try this: http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...6c-a59c97900935
  20. Not good if you use linux. Managed to GSAK in a windoze vitual machine in ubuntu but unless you have uber fast PC it is jerky slow horrible and occasionally crashes. I still run it once or month to do my profile stats though (saving VM state when closing down also avoids the nag counter next boot up) I would definitely pay for a Linux version though.
  21. Sadexploration`s Devils Dyke Series is one of my favourite sets- have done it twice, once just me and the missus then again with my brother to laugh at him retrieving the caches!
