  1. If you think it is closer, I'll definitely check it out. Not being from the area I'm kind of flying blind so I appreciate the help.
  2. I plan on arriving in Sydney around 11am, and MapQuest says it will take an hour to get to Duncan. I need to secure a campsite at Cowinchan Provincial Park, but I should be ready to do some caching around 1:30-ish. Anyone else looking go caching Friday afternoon/night? I'll contact "Cache Crop" separately.
  3. I know it is getting late, but I'm interesting perhaps carpooling from Everett, WA. I would like to go up Friday and possibly come home Saturday night. If you are interested please contact me via Groundspeak e-mail.
  4. I don't think I'm running firmware 2.15. I'm concerned you said you've had 3 of these since 2011. That's not a great track record. Interesting comment about the external power. I usually keep my unit plugged into the cigarette lighter between stops and haven't noticed a problem in the past. I was going to install 2.15 but the download screen asked for a password and 1.7 had me doing steps after the main screen came up, which is part of the problem. I should check to see if the warranty is up. Probably knowing my luck. Thanks for the reply.
  5. I've been caching since August 2009 and I'm on my third unit. My first unit was very basic so I eventually upgraded to the Explorist. After a year or so it died, or got hung up eternally. Now my second unit is doing the same thing. I grabbed a bunch of caches one Saturday and the next Monday it was hung up on the start-up screen. I've gone online and tried all the reset options, but nothing works. My question is, have others had this problem, and how long should I expect the unit to last. I'm not doing anything extreme. I like the unit but don't want to buy a new one every year and a half.
  6. Any idea why? If I use the 'Field Notes' feature, does that mean I will need to log my finds manually?
  7. Works like a champ! Thanks for the help and the clear directions!
  8. I have been very aware of my find as I approached milestone #1000. On the day I was going to get #1000, I used my wife's iPhone to log in several caches. For #1000 I logged a challenge I had been working on for some time, and I thought all was good. But as I was looking at my milestones in the statistics section, a different cache is showing. I really want the challenge cache to show as #1000. Is there any way to do this? I really don't want to delete previous finds and then re-log them, but will if that will work. What makes this more confusing is my profile from GSAK shows the challenge as my #1000 find. Any ideas on what I could do?
  9. Intriguing, however, the road at GZ for the Original Stash would not accommodate parking a tour bus. Had enough difficulty with a Hyundai Sonata. I appreciate the input. I've never been there myself but want to go and figure others would be in a similar situation. How far away would the closest parking be? I've been assuming the Original Stash is off a dirt/gravel road that might not be great for a charter bus.
  10. I have been thinking of renting a charter bus to go see the original stash, as a one time deal. Depending on how successful things went, I could charter a trip up to Vancouver, Canada. I stumbled across this thread and decided to use it to ask some questions. From previous posts it sounded like geocaching.com might have problems with advertising a charter bus on their website. Can anyone elaborate? I was thinking of making this an event, charging people for the bus, making one stop along the way to the Original Stash south of Portland and then returning home. Thoughts or comments? Cache Mission Everett, WA
  11. I bought the Magellan GC for it's paperless capabilities. I'm still trying to figure out how to do things. I had a real basic unit before so this is an improvement, but there are a couple of things. I wish the buttons were all on the side like by old Garmin eTrex. The GC will zoom out so your position and the cache are always on the screen at the same time. Although the online manual says geocaching.com will upload your field notes, I haven't figured out how to do it yet. I also haven't figured out how to change coordinates manually, in the field, for a multi-cache for example. I ended up downloading GSAK and finally can get the puzzle cache coordinates loaded correctly. I'm still having trouble navigating between the various menus. Sounds like I don't like it, let's just say the jury is still out. I read reviews and looked at screen shots and feel this is the best unit out there for my needs at a reasonable price.
  12. I have a question with regards to my eXplorists as well. How do I change the coordinates? I'm thinking of puzzle caches or multi-caches. I'd love to upload the puzzle cache, solve it, and update the coordinates. That way I have all the hints and logs, but with the new coordinates.
