  1. Arrr! Thought me'd be flogged and sent to the locker. Then it be hitting me like a squall. Email sent.
  2. Email sent. Love all the jokes. Thanks for cointest!
  3. I forgot to add: The cacher who brought the bugs from Germany had placed logs stating he was going to take them to the States in the Chicago area and on what date. He then asked that if they wanted them to stay local to drop him a note. He had spent several weeks collecting them.
  4. There's a new urban ammo can cache by me and on it's the 2nd day after release someone from Germany dropped 10 bugs from all over Europe. It was great to see them all in one cache. I took three and moved them on. I think 10 is fine if it's going to a busy area, check out target caches and see how often they get found. Also make sure the move is not contrary to it's mission. I recently picked up a bug with 8k miles that had completed it's mission and was within 100 miles of home when the cacher before me moved it 300 miles in opposite direction.
  5. I just released my first TB. It's 2nd move was post dated to date before I released it. This has screwed up its mileage. It was moved to an upcoming event so I don't know if that affects it. The cacher that moved it is a very experienced cacher with thousands of finds I only have 62 finds. Should I ask them to change the date or just forget about it? TBGTBR
  6. I use GSAK and GeoScout. I've also tried CachMate but found GeoScout to work better for me.
  7. Yes you can take it. It's treated like any other SWAG. Create your own and to leave at caches. Since I use mine as a signature item I always leave one when it will fit, even if I take nothing. If I do take something even if it's someone else signature Item I leave some SWAG plus my signature item. I've just created my own out of poker chips, It's my Avatar.
  8. Great thread, got some good idea's, thanks everyone for sharing. Made this, my first signature Item. White and blue poker chips, 50 for $14. Clear label sheets for printer $10. Can of poly coat $7.
  9. SemperFi! I'm the proud dad of a Marine currently stationed at Miramar. He's going to come back in July and I'll take him to the Mega Event in Ohio for 4 days of caching. I did a search one time for caches in Iraq and there are some around bases etc. What issue was this in, I'll tell him to look.
  10. Make sure to put "dipping" in your drop log even if you delete it right away as the log will be emailed to the cache owner.
  11. Celairiel, The poker chip you found was probably a signature item. a bit of SWAG that was left as a "I was here" item. Some people collect them other just use them as SWAG and eventually place in another cache. I've collect about 10 and leave my own in any cache big enough.

    FTF

Wow, I've gone after 5 or 6 FTF and was able to do it once. Feels pretty good did not get a prize but it was a micro. I like trying as I've always met other cachers, like said earlier a mini event. I've even met the hider a few times, they've been staking out the cache to see the action. LazyCats are you sure they are FTF logs. A new posted cache will have at least two logs before the FTF. One that it was placed by the hider and another that the reviewer has posted it.
  13. After the last few, I've added some antiseptic wipes, a tube of neosporin and some band-aids. Had a thorn scratch my ear, muggles really notice the guy with blood dripping out of his ears
  14. Topo are great if your in a hilly area, but in the middle of flat Iowa or Illinois they don't have a lot of value. I live in the Chicago area and get much more value from my street maps than from the topos, I have both.
  15. Thanks, I will read about the 5xx series. I assumed all Nuvi were equal since my wife has 3xx I have 6xx and son has 8xx.
  16. The Nuvi models are geared toward auto navigation and are great to get you near the cache, but not so good once you get out of the car. I have a Nuvi for driving and a GPS60csx for caching. I bought city navigator maps for the GPS 60 and it can also do auto navigation but does not talk like the Nuvi.
  17. If you install Google maps, it uses cell based location as a default. Then if you go into the menu you can pick use GPS. If you got one it will tell you how many satellites it found and you'll see you location move exactly where you are. I have a Samsung EPIX, The GPS is a regular GPS that locates 7 to 9 satellites on a regular basis, However it's still doing all it's regular phone and email stuff also, so the speed of updates is irritating compared to my Garmin GPS 60csx. I use a PPC app caled GeoScout, it can download from the web or suck in GPX files from pocket queries or GSAK. It has maps, compass, recent logs, and can log your finds on Geocaching.com. I've tried every app I could find for this and this is the one I like the best. I find it works best if I pump a bunch of data into it in advance and then only update the current cache I'm searching. I've got the 500 closest caches with the last 10 logs and google earth maps always loaded. But I still use the regular GPSr when I get close.
  18. My family has been caching for a while together. Now that they are creating their own user names can they go back in time and log caches or is that bad form?
  19. I've used all the ones mentioned and find IMHO that GeoScout is the most usable on my Pocket PC BYMMV. They have a Free trial so give it a go.
