I was intending this as a NE map for starters but we might as well make this one the general Geocaching map test. Please just put your HOME ZIP CODE for now till we see how it works. Then we can see about breaking down into regions if we get enough interest. Remember, anyone can start thier own map for caches, finds, etc. If we get enough interest (and TPTB approve) maybe we can have a seperate forum for "Members Maps" for everyone to post links to thier maps.

Ok, it's not a google link but it also doesn't hit up the Geoacaching Site. I started a test map for the NE Geocachers, but it seems to have caught on and become a general cacher's map. Unfortunately I can't change the name of the map so even though it says "Northeast", everyone feel free to play around with it. Check it out and see if you like the idea. If so, we could do one for each regional group and one HUGE one for all Cachers! It's free so what the hey. Plus others see the maps and maybe we pique some interest! Cachers could even do individual ones for all their finds or hides or events, etc. AND, If everyone posted their caches to one single one, we'd have one big mess...oops. Hey, This should be a stickie!! North East Geocachers on the map!

This is just what I mean... Really "user friendly"! You listed at least 4 steps neccessary to do something that should be seemless and simple.

You flew Hooter's and the only thing u could think of to play with was your GPS! Anyway..... I stick my Garmin V on the little ledge on the bottom of the window then turn in my seat a little so my shoulder holds it in place and also blocks it from view so i can record the takeoff and climb tracks. When we get to cruising altitude I just stick it in the corner of my tray table nearest the window. As far as security goes... I work in an airport screening checkpoint and frequently we come across GPSs. Sometimes it happens that we need to search a bag because we saw something else on the xray which needed checking. Thinking we spotted an unfamiliar electronic item and that's why we are searching, the passenger will invariably say "There's a GPS in there. It's used for....." and I'll say "Sir I know what a gps is, ever hear of Geocaching?" "and by the way you can't take this Swiss Army Knife on board the plane!" At least thanks to me the screeners here are now all "GPS friendly!" Oh, and by the way, 9/11 hijackers may have used GPSs to mark some potential targets but there is NO evidence they used them on board.

When either Nroute or mapsource has a connection to the GPS first and then I try to use the other program it says that the port is unavailable. Also, how do you get ure waypoints from the GPS into Nroute? You have to go through Mapsource. It's a pain.

Last time I'll check this board is 7pm tonight. Are we a definite go? Please recap where we are meeting? When? and Who's coming? Gotta drive a ways to get there and want to make sure it's still on!

Already a thread on this..... Gotta open mapsource, download the gps, close mapsource, reinitialize my ports, restart the laptop, open nroute, import the file I saved from Mapsource, then start the tracking. Yeah, that's convenient...

I refuse to upgrade because they took away the real time tracking ability.

That's funny, This is the message I got: Looks like the time changed and it's now up to $75! Guess they are having a hard time finding volunteers. I may be able to do it. Gotta check my sched for that date. So anyway, Is this thing legit? 2 diff rates of pay and by my calender Oct 10th is a Monday not a Weds! Is it on Mon Oct 10 or Wed Oct 12? Gonna shoot an email over and see.........

I have the setup in my Jeep. Bought the biggest inverter I could for around $30. Just make sure the amperage rating is high enough for whatever the laptop draws then go up to the next size! Inverters put out a "false" sign wave (ac vs dc) but it doesn't seem to matter with Laptops as most of them convert the AC back down anyway.
