  1. I have the ETrex Vista HCX and will put mine up against anyone I cache with! Hope this helps
  2. I too was about 3 miles from a cache and my iphone said 6315 miles! Africa?????
  3. Why is it that somebody ALWAYS has to find something to crab about when someone adds an idea??? I too am headed for HD tonight! Thanks for the info! I'd love to find some swag that is a step up in swag trading!
  4. Wow, I am amazed at how worked up and negative people are in a forum.... Maybe good judgement comes into play here......If the cache location offends you, DON"T DO IT! I'm pretty sure that there isn't a law that says you HAVE to get every cache. I decide everytime I cache what caches I want to do. Geocaching is supposed to be fun......And I will always keep it that way for me. Ok, I'm off my soapbox!
  5. I just carry a few new log sheets with me......replace the logsheet and make note to the cache owner. I leave the old one behind for the owner. Replaced 7 out of 24 logsheets today that were soaked or full of water, but then we had 8 1/2 inches of rain in 2 days
  6. I tend to have back ups for back ups....... Being a photographer as well I always carry 6 sets of 4 AA batteries for camera flashes, never seem to have enough when you use 3 sets of 4 at a time. I also carry AA Alkaline batteries in a plastic battery box (30-06 caliber I think). I carry both AA and AAA batteries to feed my GPS'r, headlamps, and flashlights. I have glued a foam rubber piece inside the lid to keep them from rattling, and have this in my truck all the time. If I were going to be hiking and away from a vehicle for many hours I would use the Lithium batteries, with a back up set in a watertight ziplock bag. I guess that will cover the entire range, but better safe than sorry! After reading thru the previous posts I have found a charger I HAVE to have!
  7. Since we got 8 inches of rain in the last couple of days I decided to stay at home.....drat! Sunday I hope the flooding is gone!!
  8. That's what got me started.....I bought a GPS for the vehicle and loved it so much I bought a handheld as well! Due to several days of rain and work I have only found a dozen or so finds....found one in a downpour the other day.....
  9. As a couple of people had noted, being able to "drive" to a spot, then get out of the vehicle and walk using the hand held seems to work great. Since I sometimes cover a 1000 miles a week, the more I keep my eyes on the road the safer we all are. Besides, how else can you drink a soda, eat and burger and talk on the cellphone! LOL As I am learning my Nuvi only looks like it will hold 20 caches, which today I used the coords from my Etrex, keyed into the vehicle to hunt with. Then, I just got the geocaching app for my IPod touch so I can go wireless!
  10. Thanks Jholly, I did in fact post at GSAK as well, and did try the macro idea.....still can't get it to work. In GSAK it does not recognize a nuvi 1200, and after trying several of the other models with no luck I gave up..... Of course I am just impatient I geuess, it is frustrating to have 2 units that I can't get the same info on. Thanks for your reply!
  11. Hi everyone, I have two new GS units....yeah, I'm already hooked! I have a Garmin NUVI 1200 and a Garmin Etrex Summit HC and can't seem to fina a software program that will work with both units at the same time. I have tried both Easy GPS and GSAK and each works with one and not the other, so trying to use a unit in my vehicle and useing a handheld once I get close isn't working :-( Thanks for any help that you can give!
