  1. There's nothing wrong with a "sse" as long as your setup is good. Sometimes it's the 4 hours of continuous data that is the killer. Spent many a day just getting 4 continuous hours.
  2. Yes, I takes a few more clicks but it's simple. Once you have clicked on the "GPS on Bench Marks" follow these steps. Click on "Visit The Dashboard". Under the US map click on "GTT Web Map App". Clear the box in the center of the next page. Across the bottom of the map click on "Filter by County", Fill in the State and County. Turn on Priority list 10 KM by County. You can now see all A and B monuments and the number of observations required. You can also print a map that shows the monument, Class, and number of observations required.
  3. Help improve the National Spatial Reference System (NSRS) and prepare for the NSRS modernization in 2022 by participating in the GPS on Bench Marks (GPS on BM) for the Transformation Tool campaign. The Land Surveyors Association of Washington (LSAW) needs to observe selected monuments across the state but first the monuments need to be recovered. Go to WWW.NGS.NOAA.GOV Click on "GPS on Bench Marks", that will take you to the page that shows you what monuments need to be recovered. Once you have recovered a monument notify your County Surveyor with the monuments information and they will arrange for a LSAW Surveyor to take two, four hour observations on the monuments with a Survey grade receiver. Members in others states You can do the same. If you don't have a County Surveyor email the information to NOAA’s National Geodetic Survey, Regional Geodetic Advisor. They will forward the information to the correction person. Their address is: HTTPS://geodesy.noaa.gov/ADVISORS/index.shtml
  4. Go to: http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM9QVZ_11F93_1952 I have a photo of the type of equipment your talking about.
  5. How to download from a ftp site. Step 1. Go to: ftp://ftp.spokanecounty.org/ Step 2 Right click on “GPS” and Select “Open” Step 3 Right click on “bench list” and Select “Open” Step 4 You can click on the two files, one at a time. They should automatically download. If that doesn’t work, Right click and select “Save AS” and give the file a save location. Complete this action with the other file. Hope this helps.
  6. Try the root directory ftp://ftp.spokanecounty.org/GPS
  7. This is also posted in the Benchmark forum. There are a many “Third Order” benches in and around Spokane. Most of these Marks do not have Data Sheets. I have copies of the bench descriptions and some will be extremely hard to find. If live in this area, let me know if you’re interested. I've been refreshing these marks for a long time. When a mark is found I send photos to Denver, with the Lat & Long. and a new description. The list is still long and I need help. To see an example and my contact information, go to: ftp://ftp.spokanecounty.org/GPS/bench%20list/

  9. If you like to read old US History look for a copy of U.S. Geological Survey "Boundaries of The United States and of the Several States and Territories with an outline of the History of all Important Changes of Territory" by Henry Gannett. Do a Google search and you'll find a PDF copy on line.
  10. Just sent this out this morning on my GPS News email. The Sun is Waking Up! Cambridge, MA - Sky viewers might get to enjoy some spectacular Northern Lights, or aurora, tomorrow. After a long slumber, the Sun is waking up. Early Sunday morning, the Sun's surface erupted and blasted tons of plasma (ionized atoms) into interplanetary space. That plasma is headed our way, and when it arrives, it could create a spectacular light show. more at: http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/news/2010/pr201011.html "Great images" You sure are there at a great time.
  11. When I find a Benchmark the the first thing I check is the current data sheet, if there is one. If there has not ben an update in the last 12 months I always complete a "Mark Recovery Entry" report. I don't see anyone else talking about completing the report. Just wondering.
  12. Is the mark on the East side of the island, within the park?
  13. It was different for each State and County. We built our first GPS Network in 91 & 92. The State followed in our area after that. It was all based on NGS setting the HARN Network.
  14. The discription is part of a old bench run. You could send and email to: john.ellingson@noaa.gov. He's the NGS state avisor for WI. Send him a new discription of the bench and photos. He will see that it get to the correct UGSG Office.
  15. Contact the County where you found the mark. Ask for the Land Survey Dept, they may even have a County Surveyor. That is a third order bench. He may have a file on the mark.
  16. I tried looking the benchmark up by the coordinates, but it didn't turn up. I did find a similar one on Waymarking.com com after reading the above post. I will post it there. Thanks everyone!! Your mark is more and likely a third order bench or a triangulation mark. Could you give me the section, township and range where the mark is located. That way I can wind out more info for you that way you can report it to Denver.
