  1. Sorry late to the party here, but I found this post via a search as I'm having an identical problem. Can't edit my waypoints (GCWD2E). Cache placed 2006 (uncanny!).
  2. ARCHAIC CHARMER A man of few words. "thanks", or "thanks, great cache", or "thanks, nice cache". Never, it has to be said, does it include "Signed Log". He was certainly busy on 18Jan06 when he 'visited' Wild Boar Fell (GCQC71). It took me 4 hours today of hard walking to do my maintenance visit. I think I need to borrow his helicopter. What with all the other caches he visited that day it's hardly surprising he didn't have time to sign the log ...
  3. I'd rather find an interesting Virtual than a boring micro. I don't take or leave stuff - I'm more interested in the location and the reason for the locations. As you say, Location Location Location!
  4. I've sent them an email to the support address. My guess is it's something to do with me being on version 2.
  5. It's the same problem with waypoints and tracks. Nothing appears in the app on the handheld, or any references to a transfer in the Log. I have both Waypoints and Maps in the PDA library on the desktop app. I've tried deleting and re-installing Fugawi from the handheld and that seems ok. I've tried changing my username and the compression/color depth and hotsync methods in the options. Nothing makes any difference. Sounds like a bug to me.
  6. Yup. There's about 6 maps mentioned there. I've just tried another test export and hotsynched. When I check the logs (from Palm Desktop) there's no reference to anything to do with FUGAWI. I tried changing the colour-depth from 256 to 16 in Settings/Palm/Options but Fugawi produces a memory fault when I do this. I've tried several times to do Install Palm Application Files and that seems to go ok, although it goes around the loop a couple of times. Whenever I click done, it then pops up with another app to install. Seems to get there in the end though.
  7. I'm having problems trying to export maps from FUGAWI onto my Palm Tungsten E. I've installed the Fugawi software on the Palm and it appears as an icon. I've set up Palm as my PDA in Fugawi and exported areas of the map to be transferred. I've clicked on 'Install Application Files to Palm' and that seems ok. I know that FUGAWI is pushed on the palm as something you use in conjunction with a GPS. But I don't want to do that; or more accurately, I can't - the Tungsten doesn't have a serial port, just the mini USB, and my GPS is old and has knackered connectors. But surely it's possible to just use the Fugawi on the Palm as a way of referencing maps? I don't think the maps are being synched to the Palm. Or if they are, I can't open them. When I run the FUGAWI app it's just a blank screen. When I click on the Map submenu - nothing happens. Anyone any tips on how to export maps from Fugawi to a Palm Tungsten E for viewing? Fugawi version: 3.2.0.699 Thanks, Dougie
  8. "Non-cachers" is pretty good. But the pedant in me thinks that perhaps they are cachers, and you don't know you unless they wave their GPS at you!
  9. Thanks everyone for all the feedback. All appreciated. I'm now of to investigate cachemate and plucker. In the end I bought a Palm Tungston E as it has lots of expansion potential and will hold some colour maps too.
  10. Can't you delete a post here? Submitted a double post - and can't see how to delete this, not modified, post.
  11. What's 'geocaching' then? Isn't that a made-up word? The only problem with the word muggle is it's naff in the context of geocaching. And all the alternatives that have been put forward are pretty naff too. BTW, I love Harry Potter novels and I'm 41 - if that's a problem to you then keep your problem to yourself. It's your problem, not mine. Geocaching needs a word to denote: "People you bump into or people that may observe you when you're out geocaching who may or may not be geocaching too or may or may not be interested in geocaching or, if you told them what you're doing, they may or may not be interested in what you're doing or if they observed you finding a cache they may or may not think it's fun to vandalise the cache". As one poster has observed, we have a duty to the cache hider to take reasonable care to protect the cache. Caches do get vandalised and we've no statistics to show what proportion of vandalised caches are those that have been observed as being visited. MUGGLE is a fantastic word in Harry Potter novels. In the context of geocaching, it's naff. But it's all we've got at the moment. All the alternatives that have been put forward suffer from pomposity. How would YOU describe people you bump into when you're out geocaching? A one word noun? We need an alternative. Why not suggest one?
  12. I often see cheap Palms being sold on ebay and was thinking of getting one for storing cache info. I've read a couple of postings and found about about cachemate which looks pretty interesting. I'm not interested in PDAs with cameras or mp3 players, but know nothing about the PDA and Palm market. Is there a particular range of Palm (or other) products I should look at given that it's mostly storage capacity and geocaching that I've got in mind? I read some other comments about the Palm IIIxe being a very good one to go for. I thought this model had limited memory and no memory expansion slots? Thanks for any tips, Dougie
  13. I think they're for gas and/or water pipelines. Dougie
