If I'm understanding you correctly, it's actually pretty easy and can be done with just the site tools. You will need to create a bookmark list of just the caches you've found that are archived. To do that, go through your finds list, and add each archived cache to that bookmark. When that's done, create a pocket query from that list, save it but don't actually run it. Then go to your PQ list and click the map preview icon for that PQ. Voila. You'll see little smilies of all the archived caches that you've found. They won't be red, just the normal yellow, but I think that will suffice.

Does Geocaching need a governing body?
DadOf6Furrballs replied to snow_rules's topic in General geocaching topics
Six does NOT make a herd, I tell ya... -
Sometimes, during a long stressful day at work, I take a short break and come to the geocaching forums to look around. Once in a while, I find threads like this one. After reading the posts, I smile, close the browser and go back to work, knowing that all is well with the space-time continuum.

That statement should be enshrined on a gold rimmed stone tablet and preserved ad infinitum. Thank you.

This morning South Dakota is at 9120. Only 47 of those are disabled.

It actually takes 3.

My PQ for ND this morning shows 2157 in GSAK. There might be a glitch somewhere.

Time to archive the puzzle cache.
DadOf6Furrballs replied to Roman!'s topic in General geocaching topics
Someone on the forums a couple years ago stated it eloquently, and is a personal philosophy I adopted then and still holds true for me today. "Not every cache needs to be found." -
I already do! Every time I call him, the number is busy. Hmmm???? I have his super-secret, double-private number! Knowing my reviewer as well as I do, I'm totally certain if you gave that to me, he would put you on "double secret" probation.

Why were these caches ever approved?

Most of the time reading the forums, it reminds me of lawyers and Ex-Presidents arguing over the meaning of the word "is". -
When is International Virtual Day?
DadOf6Furrballs replied to wimseyguy's topic in General geocaching topics
Not exactly a cache TYPE, but what about an International DNF day. Log a DNF at exactly 12:21 local time, on 12/21/12 to celebrate the end of the world. -
Flat Geocaches? Are they allowed? Buy on EBAY?

It could be if you shoved it into a 120mm ammo can. -
We tried to, at least for the first thousand or so. After that it became difficult to stop at X-1 and go find something cool, just for that particular "milestone" number. Now we simply remember the cool caches we've found, regardless of what number or sequence it was.

Yes, that does happen occasionally. Forums, Facebook, local events... and when they're trying to guess who the new reviewer is... Then when the reviewer finally comes out of the closet it's.... oops...

I'm working really hard on a 13th to find streak. Unfortunately, I'm not winning this one. Lucky me.

They had logged an archived cache 8 years after it was archived, but it looks like that log has been deleted in the last 30 minutes or so. Of the others, at least the New Jersey and Texas ones are suspicious (UK, NJ, and TX in the same day?). Anyway, they're apparently inactive now, so there's no reason to fret. I remember once very early on, I think we had less than 10 finds. I went to log a cache by typing in the GC number, and started logging it. Then I realized the cache I was logging was in a different state, I had just transposed a couple of numbers. Maybe that's what happened on those 2 caches. Sometimes with newbies, the benefit of the doubt can be in order. And I agree. I see no reason to worry about something that someone whom I've never met did half way around the world 2 years ago.

All of his finds were prior to October 28 of 2010. The profile shows he last visited the site October 2, 2011, almost a year AFTER he logged his last cache. All of the archived caches he logged were BEFORE the date of archive. I see nothing out of order here.

Actually, the default mouse "click time" is 10 ms, and once the command is sent, the page retrieval time can vary depending on CPU speed, memory, browser type, and internet speed / latency at that exact moment. That can be as quick as 500 ms to 2 sec. Not that any of that means anything to this conversation, just thought I'd throw that in. If for no other reason than it's Wednesday and I'm momentarily bored sitting here in my office waiting for some paperwork to be returned so I can close end-of-month. Which today, seems to be infinitely longer than a mouse click.

Wow. I'm very sorry to hear that. If you find yourself north of the border and want to get together and just talk, you know how to find me.

When do you log "Needs Archived"?

The Help Center describes perfectly when to log a N/A, and is what I use. -
Longest Unfound Cache you own
DadOf6Furrballs replied to Mike & Jess's topic in General geocaching topics
Cache page: Menteur Last visited: 08/14/11 Reason for unloved: Either people don't know how to use Google translate, or they can't handle the "truth". Seriously, it's a really nice short hike to a spot next to a peaceful, quiet meadow in the Black Hills. And an ammo can to boot. Poor guy, just laying there waiting to be found again someday. -
That system is already in place. Write up the page, submit it to the queue (or send the reviewer an email with the GC Code) along with a reviewer note for him/her to check for proximity and let you know if the spot is a go/no go. Either way, the reviewer let you know and disable the page again. If the spot is clear, go place your container and re-enable back to the queue when it's all ready to go. If not, you'll have to find another spot. Doing it this way you didn't have to waste time placing the container and then having to go pick it up after being told no.

I had a difficult puzzle a couple of years ago where the FTF posted a spoiler pic of the area. Due to the specific view of the hill behind them and the rock outcrop next to the cache, by the time I was able to email them and ask them to delete the pic, 3 people saw it and figured out the exact spot. None of those 3 people ever solved the puzzle. One of them even printed off the pic and jokingly threatened to "sell" it to the highest bidder. Did I care? Naa, it was kind of funny really. The only "requirement" to log online is that you sign the paper log. You've done that, regardless of HOW you figured out the cache location. I'd vote go for it, the prize is yours for the taking.

What about the Jasmer Challenge? Shouldn't there also be a checkbox for "Is hidden in a month I haven't found" Or the Alphabet Challenge. We need a checkbox for "Starts with a letter I haven't found" Let's not forget The Bridge Challenge, the Cache Owner Alphabet Challenge, the Cemetery Challenge, the Color Challenge, the Micro Size Challange, the Regular Size Challenge, the Attributes Challenge, the Top Favorites Challenge, the Military Challenge, the River Challenge, the Rocks Challenge, the Altitude Challenge, etc. All those checkboxes are going to get pretty unwieldy pretty fast.
