  1. It is an excellent product but it does have some flaws. For example, it seems to be major road fixated and seems to choose longer slower routes using major roads than quicker/shorter routes using minor ones. Another is that it is largely clueless as to the roads it wants to use. For example, if I want to travel from SE Milton Keynes to NW MK, it tries to route via the centre roads which are 30MPH and heavily populated with traffic lights. Whereas, keeping to the dual carriageways around the periphery of the centre will result in a far quicker journey. I wouldn't be without it now though.
  2. As above, TT5 is out next month. TT3 map quality - As road mapping goes, it's fairly good. However, the M6 Toll road isn't in TT3 ( in fact nothing new since October 2003 ). Some roads are in the database as unnamed when in fact they are named. As far as other detail is concerned, there's not a lot! It is really just the roads and vague outlines of urban areas. You can add detail in the form of Points of interest ( and there are loads of POI files available for things like Tesco, KFC etc etc etc as well as the built in ones for railway stations etc ). Adding waypoints. Go to the UK site, and you can download all UK wayponts in one file to copy in to TT3. One it is there, you enable it in the TT3 properties and the waypoints show up. I however, use GSAK to output 3 files ( not found, found, placed ) which I copy to TT3 and enable. This means I can have different icons for them. One thing to be wary of. If you navigate to a cache which is away from a road, TT will take you to the closest point it can by road. This isn't always where you want to be! It would be nice if caches had a actual co-ord and a parking co-ord associated with them to allow for things like this. HTH
  3. This is a real shame. I've only done one of TDW's ( 'BOOK OF SHADOWS' ) but I was really looking forward to doing some more. I do recall the MOC discussion, but I thought that had all died down.
  4. You need to add - 997 1071 1098 970 Just to be complete ( I think ! )
  5. TODAY ( 21st March, 2005 ) ONLY Yellow eTrex £58.95 at Expansys http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=TODAYONLY Shipping by Special Delivery is £4.90 extra
  6. Had a look at the electoral roll & phone book but I couldn't find a Penney in Mildenhall. Plenty of Penneys in Cambridgshire though.
  7. IIRC, the BT signal is only about 1mW. It's insignificant.
  8. Big improvement. Thumbs up from me. Looks far more professional.
  9. Inukshuk : I tried to submit a picture just now but your ISP ( 1 & 1 ) rejected the e-mail. This is probably because I run my own mail server which is on a dynamic IP address. Quite why 1 & 1 do this I do not know. As a result of your ISP's policy, I cannot actually help with the project at the moment.
  10. Good idea, but what sort of time limit? 24 hours? That means that if you're going out tomorrow you can reserve it today. It means that if you're about to set out on a trip, you can see if it's pointless to grab a single squre. Seems like a good idea. ....... Cheers, Stu I was thinking more like a week or two. people could then plan it into a holiday or whatever then.
  11. How about a grid square reservation register so people's effort isn't duplicated? A reservation could remain active for a fixed period and then become available again.
  12. At the budget end, expansys still have the etrex camo for £70 + £5 shipping http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=90265421 Dreadful colour, but it is essentially the yellow for less money and with added hunting & fishing calculator ( whooopeee ), and more tracklog points ( IIRC ). The Legend C is also an awesome bit of kit. I prefer a mechanical compass and as that & the barometer are the only differences between the it and the Vista C it was the obvious choice at that price range.
  13. Also worth bookmarking a way of getting free information from TrafficMaster. It's via Vauxhall
  14. I use Grid InQuest available here ( requires free registration ) to convert to and from. Excellent app recommended by the OS .
  15. TODAY ONLY Friday 28th Jan Yellow eTrex for £59.95 !!* Shipping £4.90. http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=TODAYONLY * yes you can get foreign ones off eBay for similar money - but check out the shipping costs and why risk paying duty, VAT & carrier fees on top?
  16. Also includes , IIRC, a hunting & fishing calculator. Whoop-de-doo.
  17. Thanks for this timely post. I've bought a pair for my eldest son.
  18. One thing that is definitely worth considering is the eTrex Camo from Expansys. http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=90265421 at £68.95. This is essentially the eTrex 'Yellow' with a little extra functionality and a different appearance and as such is a bargain. Shipping is an extra £5.
  19. I used to use GPSTuner ( before I had my Legend C ). It's OK and quite usable. There are some caveats ( relative to v3.5 ). 1. Try accidentally running it concurrently with TomTom Navigator and the iPaq will lock up. Reset required. 2. Sometimes it can go totally off the wall. On a number of occasion it would be saying something like 50M one moment and the next it would be telling me I was 5500 Km away! That requires a restart of GPSTuner. 3. Once you have some waypoints in, it can take a very long time to initialise. 4. Can only accept about 70 downloaded cache waypoints. Some or all of this may be fixed in v3.6. I don't know as I've stopped using it.
  20. Thanks for saying that. Extremely eloquent 1 word post!
  21. I've seen this mentioned before. Why? Some weird 'family' thing? Like pubs don't have play areas and the like
  22. Just a thought in respect of a meet seeing as Watford has been mentioned, Darth Maul 3 wanted a meet 20-23 January 2005.
