  3. Does the Delorme come with the in-the-box stuff, i.e. neck lanyard, cables, lithium batteries, owner's manual and $40 certificate for downloads? If so, and if you can do $150 including shipping, I'll PayPal the money to you tomorrow (I'm hittin' the sack right now)!

  5. I'm interested in the garmin oregon 200, but need to check with wifey. I'm guessing you still have it? Is trip and waypoint manager a standard option or is that an add on?

Yes it is still available. Trip and Waypoint Manager is a standard "new" option. I provided that information because it is what comes in a completely new package and rarely accompanies a used sale GPS.

  9. When you log a cache as found, the Enduras also fail to update the icon for the GC on the map to indicate it's found. Other GPSrs do this correctly.

Yes, the Geocache list can be set to only list GCs that haven't been found, but it doesn't fix the map icons.

    Annoying, but not necessarily critical.

    I have the Out&Back.

I have further noticed that when navigating to a cache and using the Map screen, the little arrow indicating direction of travel is often wrong. It will point 90 degrees off of my bearing, even while it continues to update the map showing that I'm correctly closing in on the GC/Waypoint.

Maybe the Safari and Sierra models with electronic compasses are better at this. I don't recall having this problem with my iFinder H2O, and it is also without an electronic compass.

The Lowrance Endura GPS's are excellent units. The only people who have a problem with them are the ones unwilling to learn how to use them properly. I have had my Sierra in addition to several Garmins, and Delormes and find the Enduras to be exceptional units, and I prefer to use my Sierra in deference to the others ( yes, I own the others as well) because the others all lack something the Sierra has or the Sierra does better, in my opinion.

Please do a search on this forum to see a less skewed perspective than those ridiculous very early comments that people seem bent on focusing on.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact myself or Endura Expert for a tad more positive, and accurate information about these products.

  10. My unit seems to take forever to acquire satellite reception (4 mins). It is especially slow when mounted on my cup holder in my truck. I know its not directly in the open, but I have heard of other people's working much better it seems. I don't think I have ever had my bars full. Usually it is at 2-3 bars. After owning other gps units, that in my opinion were inferior in quality to the endura, I am thinking that something is not working quite right. However, I dont see anything I can change on it.

Are boot times of 1 minute normal? I turn mine on and it sits there for at least one minute before it does anything. Then another 3-4 before it acquires satellites.

I have the Sierra, in addition to a few other GPSr's and have experienced the same thing you have. The solutions are painless.

If you haven't updated your GPS, please do so asap at Lowrance.com/downloads. Then, take your GPS outside and start it up and leave it to acquire the sat signals and leave it for 20-30 minutes. This extra time allows the unit to acquire information about the satelites that will improve the units "predictive" abilities which shortens future acquisition times FROM THAT LOCATION. If you leave that location relocate more than 100 times you'll need to follow this procedure again. You can shorten this time by getting your satelite fix on your GPS before you leave your current loaction and leave it on with your satelite fix until you get to your destination.

Please let me know if I can be of additional help by PM.

  11. What do you want for $200.00? You can't go wrong,as long as you understand and appreciate the Colorado is a discontinued model. Just order it for that price and know you got a great GPS with inland waterway maps and paperless geocaching ability. Don't end up liking it,just sell it later on for the same price or more.

It's a terrific unit, far better than many that came after it and discontinued way too early in my opinion. As long as you aren't too hung up on the touch screen on your D10 you'll really enjoy the C400i. I own both the C400i and the Oregon200 and enjoy them both but the C400i is better in my opinion.

Get it and leave the D10 for your wife, lol.

  12.

The good news is that the unit will take not just 500 caches but a total of 4000!!! They just need to be loaded 500 at a time. Reason for this is that the time needed to load and index this volume of caches is pretty reasonable but necessary so you can take advantage of the wonderful paperless functions that the Endura's have.

The other good news is that the Updates are free and available at Lowrance.com/downloads. The update you need is the 1.4 version for your Out & Back (consolidates all the earlier updates in a single update.). It's also been rumored that this update eliminates the 500 cache limitation so you can load your 1000 caches ( new limit applied by Geocaching.com).

Please feel free to contact me if you need further help.

I want to say that I used the Out&Back all day today and I really enjoyed doing so. It was very reliable and I'm looking forward to a long, meaningful relationship with it.

Now, that said, just after I posted this, I requested a pocket query with 500 caches that, for some reason, was a bit bigger in size bytewise than the normal 500 cache queries. Usually they come up at about 2.3 mb. However, this one was 3.1 mb. It didn't load into the Out&Back. Unfortunately, I don't think it has to do with the number of caches, but the file size itself. Maybe the limit is 3 mb, I don't know for sure.

Finally, concerning 1.4. I just downloaded that a bit earlier, and maybe it's my imagination, but menus seem to load much faster for one thing. Very serendipitous! I read the list of release notes, and nothing is mentioned about removing any file size limit or anything like that. I'd think that this would be mentioned as a keynote change if and when it happens. I can't test it today since I don't have any pocket query slots left for the day, but I certainly will tomorrow!

All in all, I like the Endura. Now if someone could fill me in on the difference between it and the Safari and Sierra. It can't just be the multimedia functions.

It wouldn't be all to surprising for Lowrance to not specifically identify all the changes, especially if they were many. In the thread addressing the 1.4 update, I identified many of the most obvious changes I could find and many that weren't identified that were included.

The specific differences between the three units are here http://www.lowrance.com/en/Endura/Model-Comparison/ but specifically, lack of multimedia functions, lack of ability to add TBT feature as an add-on card, lack of 3-D compass and barometric altimeter, base map contour line separation and road features increase in detail from the Out & Back (minimal primary roads) to Safari (primary/secondary roads) and Sierra (All roads) to greater detail.

    Hope this helps a bit.

  13. I wanted to say that I spent a long while learning that PQ's with 1000 caches in them do NOT work when trying to load them into the Out&Back. 500 count queries work, but I would REALLY like to be able to add 1000, since the new geocaching.com update went through allowing that size.

I have a question for everyone. Do the updates that affect the Out&Back also affect the Safari and Sierra? I'd like to go with the higher end models, but I read a lot of bad things about the Safari and Sierra, whereas the reviews for the Out&Back have been glowing since the updates. If the latest updates also improved the higher end models significantly, I'd like to purchase one of them.

I'm sorry it took a while to figure that out.

  14. Please let us know if 1.4 makes this a full fledged GPSr! I'm close to buying one and Amazon has sweet deal on right now.

Me too!!! I really want to re-buy this gps again.

This is a terrific GPS and these enhancements only improve an already phenomenol unit. I have a variety of "the other" mfg's units and continue to keep going back to my Endura Sierra. Not many units combine the best of the Delormes (mapping, access to USGS 1:24k topo's, BLM, and Aerial quads for a $1 ea.), Garmins (geocaching, paerless capabilities) and the older Lowrance GPSr's (simplicity and accuracy) into a new vastly improved unit with the best over-the-counter maps in the industry.

I can't believe you've waited so long to get one, especially with the considerably lower prices of the Endura's now.

Feature enhancements (observed actuals that I have noticed thus far on my Sierra). An elaboration on the "Improved land use data – symbology and colors for public lands have been improved for better readability and Various other minor enhancements or bug fixes." posted in Lowrances description of updates modifications.

Much greater land boundary detail!!!! BLM (tan), State Forest (dark green) vs National Forest (light green), public vs. private (beige), State Trust (orange), Wilderness Areas (purple), Indian Reservations (dark brown), Federal Reserves (red brown).

Expanded mapping detail at "base map" setting with significantly improved contours at .9 mi and below (may be different based on Endura model you own)! A usable base map YEEEHAAA!!!!

Boot time to main menu approx. 1 min., including GPX processing (indexing based on my 500 caches) 2 min. Come on Lowrance we can do better than that!

Tab detail seem to have a more refined font in the Yellow tabs, but the Page detail are STILL outlined with white inset and difficult to read, this should be a selectable feature by color, size, perhaps even font to make them more legible and easier to read from a typical user distance.

    Find Menu improvements:

Vastly improved number and types of Waypoints, gotta check'em out, especially the geocaching category!

Geocaching category no longer (apparently) duplicates caches. Search and filter functions are quite a bit faster!!!

Accuterra mapping improvements are extrordinary, with vastly improved shading geographic feature detail, WOW!!!

    Trails and Routes:

They work!!! Racing style finish line flag at end of route, very nice improvement!

Icons selected for waypoints now stay put and don't revert back to those blasted "X's" like before.

Still no color selection capabilites of displayed routes and trails.

Trails have new "backtrack" feature, sweeet!!!

Points of interest are improved by category and feature faster search execution.

On-Board Navigation feature still requires the TBT card. (booo, hisss!)

More to come as I play with it a bit more but guaranteed to please, baby!!

    Be safe.

  15. I've currently got a Garmin Rino 530. I like it a good bit, all except for the fact that it seems to be quite inaccurate under a leafy cover and loses signal a decent amount. I see that the GPSMAP 60CSx is on sale at REI and was simply wondering if the upgrade to a high-sensitivity chipset is worth it. The two units appear to be quite similar in function with the exception of the radio, which I barely ever use.

I guess the question boils down to this: are the higher sensitivity GPS receivers also more accurate under foliage or would I simply get a more consistent faulty reading?

Quick answer is yes, get it.

The differences are huge. More accurate, faster acquisition, ability to hold acquisition in questionable conditions (i.e. canyons, dense leafy canopies, sitting inside you house, inside a vehicle while driving, etc.) without an external antenna.

I have the 76Csx which is very similar and get all "D"s (differential lock) on my satellite page while having coffee at the dining room table. GPSr's are made for navigation and if yours will not maintain acquisition lock while hiking in the forest outdoors, then it seems your GPS is pretty worthless for the purpose intended, don't you?

Join the wild side, get the 60Csx and start having fun again. LOL

  16. Without EnduraExpert, I would not be breathing a sigh of relief right now. Leaving for a trip tonight and having the Safari fully functioning is a relief.

There is still an undocumented issue, to upgrade beyond the 1.1 you will need a micro sd card reader or a mac. Fortunately I have a mac so another trip to the store was not needed. I plugged the endura with the sd card inserted but turned off into the usb port. Then turned it on, mac recognizes the drive and then I deleted the "installer.exe" file.

You will need to delete the current installer from the sd card before you can move on to the next one. There is no way to do this without a card reader (or a mac). So if you don't have a mac and you are having the problem that the Endura is not being recognized by your computer when the sd card is in and you're seeing the message on the Endura screen that the update was already run, its because the update is running before the eudora is recognized as a drive. You'll have to take the sd card out and find some way to erase the "installer.exe" file from the card.

**update** I cannot get the 1.3 installer deleted, even when I try it on a mac so now I'm forced to buy a micro sd card reader.

This is all a bit annoying and I can imagine the frustration of others who have not found the Groundspeak forum.

Thanks again EnduraExpert, you're a lifesaver.

    -roger

Roger to remove the 1.3 installer from the microSD card try reformatting the card using FAT32.

I have sent a request to resolve the issue of not being able to delete the installer.exe file without having a card reader.

Sorry for all of the frustration in running thru the updates. We hope to have the 1.4 update avail soon and it will roll the 1.2 & 1.3 updates into the 1.4 update.

    Yo Expert,

Might be a good idea to keep a FAQ of these type of problem solutions someplace readily accessible to keep the unfortunates informed when they have a problem. Better still, have an information directory on the Endura's which will take them directly to the information resource like the MapSelect function we're all too familiar with on our Endura's. In addition, how about a newsletter for all of the registered users which would share this kind of timely information and resource?

If I can find any other ways to misuse your time and resources I promise to let you know immediately!!! :D:rolleyes:

    Thanks again for your efforts.

  17. The CO was meant to be a replacement for your 60 series. Due to an incredibly poor introduction, it got a very bad reputation with retailers. I have a 300 and think it's great, huge high-res display, good battery life, adequate daylight visibility. It'll even display Birdseye images and photos.

If the price is right, go for it.

    What he said ^^^, +1.

Really enjoy mine and have had zero problems with it (purchased within the last 4 months). No need to buy refurbs if you look around ...

  18. Does anyone know if the update has been posted yet. Can you post a link?

Sorry to report that 1.4 isn't quite ready yet. I've been told it may be ready within the next day or so. Apparently the "tools" for incorporating all 3 of the prior updates into this new update aren't responding in the desired way.

Let's try to be patient just a day or so longer for the Lowrance team to get it right for us.

Yog, you'll be able to get the update at the Lowrance site, www.Lowrance.com, under "downloads", then look for your Endura type, and update 1.4. I'll post the notification if I find out first so everyone can be made aware of it with details on the corrections specified.

    Be safe.
