  1. For the Little Girls cache - does a cache placed by a girl scout troup count? See http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...b7-de23a32c3dc5 Thanks! -Krauss-McClurg PS - This is a blast!
  2. Shetland Pony? We want one too! The Shetland Sheepdog, alias Sheltie, originated in the Shetland Islands as a small herding dog. We would also love a Shetland Pony too though! I have 2 Shelties myself. A tri factor and a blue merle. We also have a sheltie (tri), my parents have one (blue merle), and have had two previously. We'd love to see one on a coin! -Krauss-McClurg
  3. Well, since Swags is not accepting applications right now, I'd definitely be interested in any new coin design group formed... (And, of course, if Swags ever does accept applications, well, hopefull all his brothers and sisters that live in my backyard (woods of Woodinville, WA) will vouch for me. []) -Krauss-McClurg

I really like the art! I think the saying on the front could use a bit of work (as you point out), but the one on the back is perfect! -Krauss-McClurg

A couple of random phrases (feel free to shred, change, etc): "I can stop anytime... but not today: I'll take 1 gold and 2 bronze" "If I only ordered 1, what would I trade with?" "1 more coin to complete my collection - until tomorrow" "Geocoins are nothing like beanie babies" -Krauss-McClurg
  6. I have to agree with pdxmarathonman. If I sell you my personal coins, then you can do whatever you want with them. However, if I trade with you, then I have given it to you specifically and nobody else. It's like if somebody gives you a birthday present. Do you turn around and sell it on eBay? No. Well, it's the same here. I'm gifting you my personal coin and I'm the only one who has paid for them. If it gets sold, then you have said in effect that you don't like my gift. And, if that's the case, then please return it to me so I can gift it to somebody else who will appreciate the time and effort that I placed in creating my coin. I don't think I have a strong opinion on this, but I do disagree with this comment. You didn't give your coin as a gift - if you had, you wouldn't have gotten anything in return. Instead, you traded, or "sold", your coin for another coin. Just because no actual money changed hands, doesn't mean there wasn't payment, you are just using a goods system of exchange instead of a monetary one. -Krauss-McClurg
  7. 2 regular ones, please (If there is a waitlist, put me down for 1 silver...) Thanks! -Krauss-McClurg
  8. There is a slim (and I mean slim) chance that I'll be there - but no one should wait for me. -Jeff of K-Mc
  9. It does appear that the group is sticking with 3 coins per order. Although I am not adverse to that, I'd actually prefer just two. If there is someone who is local to the eastside who would be interested in a single coin per order, let me know and we can work something out. -Jeff of Krauss-McClurg
  10. I don't know about others (and I'm not even in the group yet ), but I know I'd prefer to only order 2 coins per issue - I'm not exactly sure what I'd do with 3. Alternatively, I suppose I'd be willing to form a "mini-group" with someone local to the eastside who would be interested in one coin per issue... (although, that again requires a spot in the group...) -Jeff of Krauss-McClurg
  11. You can also look to the consumer market. I have a Gore-Tex jacket from LLBean that's 10 years old and still repels water beautifully, and both they and Land's End have jackets in the $100-$150 range. They won't have pit zips or anything especially technical, but if you just want something to walk around parks in the rain in, they'd do.
  12. From the title and placement date of the second cache I think the second cache was meant to mimic the first, and not-coincidentally lead to general finds of the MOC. It sounds snarky to me, but it's in Indiana and not my territory to complain about. Or who knows, maybe it's a private joke between the two placers. As long as they're labeled well and you know which one you found, I guess that's good enough...?
  13. We started caching when our daughter was 13 months old, and have done a number of whole-day caching trips in the five months since then. It definitely requires planning, though. In our case, our days have generally started away from home, so she gets some napping done in the car to start, and then will also nap some more in the backpack carrier. We have to make time for snacks and diaper changes, and it helps to have two or more adults along in case it turns out that you need to leave the child(ren) behind if they're asleep in the car or it's otherwise not safe for them to get the final cache. But she seems to enjoy the walks and she loves looking through the boxes when we find them. She snatched up a mini red devil duckie the other day (that yes, I traded for), and after her bath with it had to take it with her to sleep.
  14. I have around 200 back issues of SF magazines (digest-sized), and had been thinking of making them into my sig items for larger caches. They have the benefit of being all different, so even if someone found more than one of them s/he might enjoy having them. I would put labels on them for the "sig item" part of things, and a note that stories in them may not be suitable for children so that people don't hand them to their 8 year olds. :-) (They're not "adult" magazines, but you wouldn't hand a Tom Clancy novel to your 8 year old, even if it did have pretty pictures on the cover...) They'd fit nicely into ziplocs, so they'd at least have one layer. And of course, books are things I'd consider using too. OTOH, they're all paper. Is that just a recipe for disaster?
  15. I use a large camelbak daypack for real hikes (after trying on all the daypacks at REI, it won) -- Mr.K-M carries the baby backpack so I get most of the gear. I use a small bag with shoulder strap (not a purse exactly, but not all that different) for shorter walks, but I've concluded that it's a pain because it swings around as I move/search. So I've got one of those sling bags on my Christmas list, ~$25 from the REI outlet. http://www.rei.com/outlet/product/47894369.htm ed: I agree with NightPilot that not everything is right for everybody. But you have to start somewhere, and once you use one thing for a while you figure out what you really want. :-)
  16. We'll be doing a 90 eastbound, 20 westbound loop, with a day in Spokane between. We'd like some cool caches with at most short hikes to do by ourselves along that route and around Spokane, as well some in-town to do with family who've never been caching before. We'd love some suggestions based on local knowledge. Thanks very much!
  17. I love multis and puzzles -- walking multis in particular since I can get my daughter out of and back into the carseat once, have a nice walk while making progress all along, and find something at the end. Yes, it's only one smiley, but it feels like several finds. I prefer reading things on informational markers or micros along the way to counting bolts, but I know the latter can be useful. Puzzles are fun because the prepwork to start them is something to do when I can't get time to go search. I prefer scenery or even just a park that I didn't know about to a parking lot, but hiking....well, it used to be pulling teeth to get me to go out for a dayhike. Now that there's a chance of a find at the end, I'm far more into the idea, but a walk for the sake of a walk isn't necessary for me. Of course, if you ask the other half of KMcC you will get almost opposite answers.
  18. On a humbler note, we hit 100 this weekend by finding the Bumbling B's "Sweet 16 - The Grand Prize." That works out to around 1/day since we started, so maybe we'll see our 2300 in about 6 years. Thanks to all those who've laid caches -- we've enjoyed the hunts. Soon we'll hide something of our own....
  19. Tangent: which one is this scary ladder cache? I'm guessing it's on Whidbey Island?
  20. Oh dear. I suspect our active pursuit of Sweet 16 is contributing to your geo-stress. If it helps to know, we've had a lot of fun working on the series. I was drawn in by the puzzle aspect, and we're shooting for making "The Grand Prize" our 100th find. Thank you so much for putting it together. -- Mrs. of Krauss-McClurg family
