  1. I basically love it! However... I can't see my notes and DNF logs that are more than a few logs back. I really want them back! Can the "caches found" link on http://www.geocaching.com/my/geocaches.aspx be changed to "caches logged?" Only being able to see the last 15 logs is too few. I often have that many before lunch. Only being able to see the caches I own in the nearest.aspx format is frustrating. I've got 5 pages to scroll through. Any way to have them listed in a more compact, single page format, with the last found date, like on the old page, or like the watchlist page? Same goes for the caches I've found. I'm at 49 pages in the nearest.aspx format, so if I'm searching for a particular cache, it's going to be a real pain. I'd also like to be able to filter benchmarks. Thanks for uncluttering the page and adding some new features. Keep up the good work!
  2. Got mine in the mail this afternoon: Web-ling Cannonball Racer #1 Web-ling Cannonball Racer #2
  3. So I guess this means the winner(s) of the first race don't get to compete in the second race? It's a conspiracy to keep shelled quadropeds from winning again! If you can't beat 'em, outlaw 'em... I've been saving two TB tags just for this event. Now to steal two of Curly Tiger's Hot Wheel cars.
  4. Ok, figured it out. I don't use PayPal very often, so I wasn't sure how that worked. Thanks!
  5. I got the following email: How do I know if I set it up to be a recurring renewal? I can't remember what I did this morning, much less a year ago...
  6. I'm just glad the benchmarking section is getting attention, and that ugly orange is gone! Keep up the great work! Thanks!
  7. Most benchmark disks ARE a marker for you to read if you want to.
  8. Bottom line: This cache does NOT meet the current guidelines. Possible solutions: 1. Make it some type of physical cache (multi, micro, etc.) 2. List it on another site. 3. Forget it and go caching.

    Ohio Site

Or is that almost a Web-ling? A state-wide organization would benefit all of us by pooling our efforts to work with state parks, etc. Also, anyone not living in an area that currently has an active club. Ohio is small enough that some state-wide events could be planned, possibly some sort of competition between clubs.
  10. No, I don't routinely verify that all on-line logs have a corresponding log in the logbooks. If geocaching were a competitive sport, I might, but since we all know stats don't matter, I don't. I just don't think there are enough bogus find logs to be worth the effort.
  11. Great idea! I've bookmarked it and am looking forward to the first articles! Regarding design, in the web design classes I've taken, it was stressed that the initial pages of a website need to load quickly. Research shows that very few web surfers will wait more than 10 seconds for a website they haven't previously visited to load. We had points taken off of our grades if our pages were over a certain size. The key is to have a bit of eye-catching flair without adding very much bandwidth. If you want to add flash graphics and such, you'll lose most of the dial-up users, unless dial-up users can bypass it. Geocachers USED TO be mostly computer geeks, but now we have a much broader base. A lot of geocachers still use dial-up. These newer users are the ones that will benefit most from a magazine like this. Keep the bandwidth small!

    Deadlocks

Deadlocks and other error messages have become VERY frequent over the last several days. I wonder if it's just a lot of people off work for the holidays using the site more than normal?
  13. I was running out of caches in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, so I moved to Cincinnati. I now have over 1200 caches I haven't found in a 100 mile radius. Me? Addicted to geocaching? Naw!
  14. I sorta do just the opposite - I prefer to cache without the GPS at all, just the cache page, a topo map, and an aerial photo. I've done a few with only the coords and my GPS, but I really don't enjoy it as much.
  15. I think the biggest change is rules, both at Geocaching.com and in the world. Used to be that almost any kind of creative cache could get approved, but not any more. Used to be we didn't worry too much about getting permission for cache placement in public parks, but now many parks have formal policies, permits, and approval processes. Geocaching used to be a bit like the old west, a sort of anything goes free-spirited game. As the game has grown, it has also evolved. Some of the evolution has been good, some maybe not. Overall, though, it's still the best game in town.
  16. Most "benchmarks" that are listed as water towers, transmission towers, steeples, etc. are not a disk - they're the tower or steeple itself. There is no disk to find. As long as you can see the object described on the benchmark page, log it as a "find." Rarely, there is an actual disk on a roof. Read the description carefully to see if this is the case.
  17. The issue with this particular cache was NOT that it was an ammo can, but rather that it was placed on railroad property. When I use ammo cans, I always paint over all markings, then paint the word GEOCACHE in large letters on the outside of the container.
  18. Ditto. I use cache maps to plan cache hunts. Once I've found a cache, I really don't plan to hunt it again. Showing caches I've already found just clutters up the map. I'd really like to be able to filter out finds and hides.
  19. I'm currently sitting at 860 found / 81 DNF, for a 91.4% find rate. Many of the DNFs were later found, and many turned out to be gone. Quite a few I just plain MISSED.
  20. It might be a lot easier to get vegetation to grow on some other type of container. I have been thinking of trying to make a small concrete cache container with a very rough surface, then see if I can get ivy or something to grow on it.
  21. ...if gazillions of film canisters in parking lots hidden at the bases of light posts or magneted to the back of street signs count as "caches"...
  22. Yes, but I would then be too depressed to help change the bulb. You're depressed? These went to waste... Lemme guess: You found them in a cache the day after the game?
  23. The pocket queries are kind of cool, I think, at least if you use a PDA. I use pocket queries extensively, even thought I don't have a PDA. I download caches into an Access database, which enables me to track the caches I've found and am planning to hunt. The MO caches are insignificant. The reason I've paid is that I feel I'm investing in the sport I've become addicted to. We might not have a server for this forum right now if it weren't for memberships.
  24. Oh yea. duh. On second thought go ahead and let her read it. I think in order to move forward the proverbial $&!t needs to hit the fan. In other words it has to get worse before it gets better. Like I said, stand your ground and tackle this thing head on. Sooner rather than later. Are we entirely positive she didn't WRITE it? She does have a history of that sort of thing...
