  1. I have a bunch of hides out and occasionally I will receive a log that states: "found the cache but forgot a pen". To be fair to all cachers I usually delete these logs as anyone can say they found a log but couldn't sign it because of this or that. If they include a picture to show they found the cache I do not delete their log. Just wondering how other hiders handle this situation.
  2. My opinion is, if the cache has been archived for over a year the CO is probably no longer interested in the cache and placing one in that location should be no problem. If it interferes with an existing cache or a physical way point that's a different story. Once a cache is archived other caches can be placed within 528 feet of that location so check to make sure there are no other hides within the guidelines.
  3. I just hid another 100 caches and had a few issues getting some of them published. However, the problem was mine not the reviewers and once the problems were resolved the cache's were published in a very short time. All in all the reviewers in my area are dedicated to making Geocaching fun for everyone.
  4. The change is certainly not an improvement, but is it a Geocaching.com problem or a Google problem. Like the exit numbers missing from the map, Groundspeak said it was a Google change, not theirs.
  5. I don't usually post of the forum but this subject caught my attention. As a hider I do not necessarily look for accolades for my caches but taking the time to write a few words about your experience is definitely appreciated. Those too lazy to write and actual log should find another hobby where they don't have to expend so much energy, say something like TV binging.
  6. I just purchased a Garmin Etrex Legend HCX for $182.00. There are less expensive versions of this model such as the Legend H, but this unit has internal memory only so you can't download as much as you could with a unit using micro SD cards. With Garmin a "H" means high sensitivity antenna, you would want this. A "C" means color screen, which is nice to have and the "X" indicates it uses micro SD cards. Some units have an electronic altimiter and compass, not really needed for Geocaching. So check out the Etrex line of GPS's they come in all price ranges. Once you find what you want do a Google search for that model to find the best price. Good luck and welcome to the sport.
  7. I didn't mean to start a fight, just wanted to know what is correct. I was a little upset about the 4 line stamp but not to the point my blood pressure rose. Even though the logs were completely filled and some folks had signed along the edge and the top no one created a "needs maintenance" log entry. One or two mentioned it in their regular log entry but I'm not sure the CO sees all of these. I did create a "needs maintenance" log entry and told the CO the log needs replacing. I can see by the responses to my original question there are a lot of opinions. I have mine others have theirs, I will continue to use one line per name no matter what size the log is.........and I will carry extra log sheets with me so I can help the CO out. I don't want to condemn those that put out small cache's with small logs because if it weren't for them we'd have a lot less cache's to look for. Thanks to those who replied, all the varied responses did help me understand better.
  8. I have a question about signing logs, especially those small logs in most small or micro cache's. Today I ran into many instances of full logs ( I found 48 cache's today). What really upset me was people who use a stamp to sign their name and take up 4 lines on the log to do so. Is this acceptable or should they be using a pen or pencil and stick to one line per name?
