  1. Funny you should mention PROPaganda. That was one of my original choices until Mrs. Kingsting (Kingstingstress?) came up with Mary... I have to get to the warehouse and see if the other one is still laying around.
  2. Now this is a REAL honor! Snoogans has moved more bugs than just about anybody else AND Mary is even sporting a rare, seldom seen "Snoogstress" signature. The signatures have all been preserved. I sprayed her with Krylon matte clear finish and she is lookin' mighty fine! We're in the process of trying to get another Mary (or maybe something even better). Let's see what happens there...
  3. Wow! That is really neat. I'll bet some finders had fun with that one! It kind of reminds me of the Christmas present I got in 1983 when I asked for a home computer. I got a gadget from Radio Shack that looked a lot like what you have pictured there.
  4. I think the majority of lame caches have been covered above. One of the ones I don't care for are the needle-in-a-haystack hides, (Fake rock in a boulder field, fake leaf or camo film can laying in the middle of the woods, Mr. Magneto on an iron railroad bridge full of rivets) especially if satellite reception is bad in the area or it's out in the open and stealth is required. Some folks call them evil. I think evil is a cache that someone put some thought and effort into. Not just tossing a little container into a spot where it instantly dissapears.
  5. We released a very large travel bug, "Mary Proppins" two years ago. It has found it's way home and is now sitting in my living room. It's proven to be very popular with the caching world and has traveled to several event caches and even made it out to a few caches in the wilderness. It's been signed by probably 300 cachers since it's release. There isn't much room on it for many more signatures. The problem is that the lovely Mrs. Kingsting thinks it's neat and that I should keep it. I've already had a few offers from other cachers to get it moving again. I would be a shame if it turned up missing. My question is what should I do here? Here are my options: A. Keep it, print out all the logs and pictures on the bug page and make a display as a conversation piece. B. Keep it and just take it to event caches and then bring it back home instead of releasing it. C. Turn it loose again to get more photos and signatures. Figure out a way to attach a logbook to it. Hopefully it will come back this way again. D. Since there isn't much room for new signatures, Get a second one (There was another) to release and keep this one. E. Sell it on eBay and make the missus and the caching community mad at me. F. ????
  6. I saw an item at a sporting goods store a few weeks ago. It's used for hunters to find where they put their tree stands. It consists of a remote and a flashing light. You point the remote in the area of the light and it flashes a few times. The trick to making this work would be making sure the remote didn't walk off. Here it is: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00...sg-20/ref=nosim
  7. There are probably many cachers out there that would consider my first find to be a lame cache. It was a tin keyhider with a damp log hidden at the end of a chainlink fence in a park. I found it without a GPS. I just used the cache description and the hint and found it after a short search. I thought it was neat that this thing was in an area that I pass by every day and I never knew it was there. This was enough to get me hooked on the hobby and about a week later I bought a GPSr and have been caching ever since.
  8. I have 226. I don't think I'm #1 but I should be in the top 10, right?
  9. How's this for a geocaching rig? The 4" wide low pressure tires allow it to go almost anywhere. It works great in mud and sand. I'm just waiting to try it in the snow.
  10. Many of my hides are close to home so use a bike to maintain them. I have a route set up so I can regularly check on my caches and get my fat self some exersize. Bikes work well for urban hides too. Nobody notices when a cyclist rides up to a point and starts wandering around. If you get out of a car and do the same it may draw some attention.
  11. Yep, I'll throw MissPlaced's name in there too. While Keystone and OReviewer have approved some of mine, it seems that MissPlaced gets stuck with my problem hides. She's had to deal with my antics and questionable caches over the last two years and has done a great job at setting me straight and getting the caches approved. I also think my mammoth travel bug has attacked her once or twice...
  12. Yuo can buy flashing bicycle taillights any place that sells bikes or sporting goods. Some have several different strobe patterns.
  13. That is one handsome devil!!! I put Mary Proppins on the scale and if memory serves she was around 34 lbs. She was a resident of my living room for a couple of months, I kinda miss the ol'girl. She's back east again, want me to see if I can get her back for you? Actually she was much heavier than that when we started out. There is a big metal bearing race that I cut off of the base just to make the bug lighter. That would be very cool but as much as I like this TB, I really enjoy reading the logs of other cachers that get to discover this big bug. You may have to put out another one before too long though, It looks like Mary's getting a lot of signatures. Maybe the MP-2. We thought of doing MP-2 (There is another one lurking in the warehouse) but I would rather find a different interesting aircraft part and send that out in another direction and have them meet up at some point in time.
  14. Let's see.. I have one that disappeared shortly after it's release. (A nice Johnny Lightning die-cast.) Probably in some 40 year old "kid's" toy box now. I have one that's stalled for over a year. The folks that have it told me they would get it moving again. I have two that are moving but slowly. One is designed to fit in micros and still doesn't do much. My large bug (A 5 ft. tall airplane propeller) is doing well and has been to several events this year. I guess creative, large bugs are the way to go if you don't want them to go missing.

  16. They're just Kid Connection die cast cars. (Made by Maisto) You can buy them at Wal-Mart. I've only seen the green ones in two packs so far.
  17. Or any bicycle shop. Have them save a wore out Shimano cassette for you. You can get cogs from these with any number of teeth ranging from 11 to about 36.
  18. I think the NM is a good feature but maybe cachers should have a certain number of finds before they can use it. I had to run out in the woods one cold dark night because a newbie with 2 finds had trouble locating a stage on one of my multis. That particular stage is one of those evil, out in the open types of hides. This cacher was certain it had gone missing.
  19. I just saw those green die cast Jeeps at Wal-Mart. They're in Kid Connection two packs...
  20. Someone actually hauled this monster from Missouri to GeoWoodstock4. I can't wait to read the logs for it!
  21. The soft aluminum tags can easily be bent to fit inside a film can or M&Ms tube. I used a soft mallet and tapped the tag around a socket to make a curved tag for my micro bug.
  22. I was looking for a micro in a huge pile of rocks one time. After an hour of hopping around the giant dangerous rocks in the 90 degree heat I finally gave up. On the way out I spotted a rubber snake laying in between some of the smaller rocks. I picked it up and put it in my pocket (Good trade item). I remembered a previous DNF log for the cache where a cacher mentioned finding a rubber snake and scaring his fiance with it. I thought that was amusing and pulled the snake back out of my pocket to see how real it looked. That was when I saw the bison tube in it's mouth....
  23. I'm all for going with a small lock n lock. I've found plenty of crusty Altoids tins already. I do have an Altoids tin hide out there but it's in a sheltered location and doesn't get rained on. It's holding up pretty well. Altoids tins and moisture are a bad combination...
  24. How about an airplane part? Yes, it's a shameless plug for my own bug... Funny thing is that this one is actually travelling... Mary Proppins
