  1. I enjoy micro caches, especially creative ones but I would like to see Mr. Magnetos banned - at least as a cache. They would still be ok to use as a stage in a multi or a creative way to hide a hint near a cache site. Ever try to remove a damp, rolled up logsheet from one of these things with cold fingers?
  2. They make nice racks that will attach to your seatpost. They're only good for 20 pounds so you'll have to leave the panniers at home.
  3. I have a lot of hides close to home and I check on them while I'm out on a bike. I don't have a road bike (except for some vintage Schwinn Varsities and a Super Sport) but I have plenty of others. Last summer I purchased what I believe to be the ultimate caching rig: With 4" tires, and plenty of gears, this thing can co anywhere.
  4. Here in Central PA, I'll have to nominate these three Hiders: Evil urban camo: - Saral3 Caches with a theme and all-around fun event caches: - CCCooperagency Hidden right under your nose: DoverDoggs There are a lot of other good cachers around here that put out some wonderful stuff for me to find but these three have placed some of the finest memorable hides.
  5. I don't like sending regular items COMAT, (especially if it's going through PHL) let alone something valuable like a travel bug.
  6. There are 44 pictures of Mary Proppins on her page but you had to put that picture with our ugly mugs on here didn't you? It did travel and make it into the wilderness. It went to several events and even hit a few caches. Recently, Flyingmoose hauled it way up in the mountains to a cache and Lpyankeefan went out the next day and drug it back out.
  7. As a bottlecap (crown) collector, I really like this one. Those Three Stooges caps were fairly desirable at one time. I see someone attached some unused August Schell caps too.
  8. My bug Are we allowed to toot our own horns on here? This one recently made it home after two years in the wild. It went to a lot of events and even made it out to a few caches. Who says big bugs won't travel? It's almost full of signatures so I would like to release a second one and just take the original to event caches. toot toot! Oh yeah, samirsyi, I like your bug! The baby seat is a nice touch. I had thought of doing a bicycle myself (I have plenty!) but you beat me to it.
  9. I used this on my last caching expedition on a rail-trail. I can't wait to see how the 4" wide tires work in the snow.
  10. I have one out with a decoy container that's a foot or so away from the actual cache. It contains a logsheet that says "Not a cache, keep looking". The decoy is easier to see but harder to get.
  11. I realize your just a sock, but to anyone that really would care. The whites and greens were made by Maisto, and showed up at some wal marts and such. And were apperently just off the rack toys. The yellows were made by another company, Tyco maybe??, and AFAIK never showed up in stores. I think they may have been some sort of special order production (anyone?), which is why the amnesty was so neat since it had the actual jeeps! Wal-Mart and K-mart had the green Jeeps but I have only seen them in two and five-packs. They also carried the white Jeeps in single packs. The yellow Jeeps were made by Racing Champions which was big into NASCAR diecast toys. I don't know if they were made special for the promotion as I have never seen a Racing Champs diecast Jeep of any type at the stores or at any toy shows. I recently found the green Jeeps in single packs at a store called Five Below. They're kind of an upscale dollar store. Great place to pick up caching swag.
  12. I like the "discover" option for large bugs or the ones that you really can't move. For example, my bug "Mary Proppins" was put out for people to have fun with so anybody can discover it if they want to. It's too big for almost any cache (although it did get placed in a few) and really can only travel to events. Without the discover option this thing would get grabbed and dropped into every event or location where people could get it's tag#. Another example would be a human travel bug like Snoogans. While Snoogans is one of my heroes, if I "found" him at an caching event, I really don't think I would want to move him to another cache or event. I don't think there's any reason to discover a small bug other than to get another number added to your stats or a new icon for a discovered geocoin. I personally, would rather move, than discover a bug to get the extra number or icon.
  13. Here's ours: It recently came home after two years and 8600 miles. Even the big bugs will travel....
  14. It's now open to everybody so even non-premium members can "enjoy" it. Are you still deleting the logs of those cachers who have the nerve to enjoy themselves? I haven't had to yet. I don't think anybody has enjoyed the find. Like I mentioned in a post above, the cacher will be contacted and have a chance to edit their happy log before I even think of deleting their smiley. (I probably won't really delete anybody's find unless I don't see their sig on the logsheet. This one is close to home so I will be checking it.) The whole point of putting this one out was due to the fact that there are a handful of sad excuses for caches around here. I found one recently that was a rusty tin keyhider stuck under an electrical box behind a dirty shopping center. There was no logsheet inside, just a piece of a tattered envelope that was almost filled with signatures. (I didn't have my cache fixit box with me so I couldn't make any repairs.) Hides like this deserve a negative log but somebody went through the trouble of placing it and may even be proud of it. Something like this could have been put out by a newbie or very young cacher just getting a feel for how the game works. A negative log could leave them with a bad taste for geocaching. So what I did was put out this wretched thing for all the cachers who want to vent their frustrations on lame hides. Did you ever find a cache that was just plain bad and the whole way home you were going over how you were going to slam it when you typed out the log but at the last minute you leave the cookie cutter "Quick find, TFTC" log? Now there's one out there that can be used as a punching bag. No reason to hurt anybody's feelings. Also, there are some newbies out there that may be contemplating their first hide. If they find this and it's similar to what they have planned, they might rethink their cache and put out something of value.
  15. It's now open to everybody so even non-premium members can "enjoy" it.
  16. Well, it seemed like it might be a fun idea at first but the majority of you think it might be more trouble thatn it's worth. Naming the cache "paparazzi" would have been cool though...
  17. Has anybody tried placing one of these near a hide in the woods? Stealth cam scouting camera I've been tempted to buy one of these things and place it near a remote hide. It would automatically take pictures of any cachers that are searchng for the cache. I've seen them as low as $29.00 and I might end up with some amusing photos. I guess I would have to label it "Not a geocache" so it doesn't get ripped to pieces by cachers trying to open it.
  18. I just found one this week. I was scouting out a park to do a new hide and when I came upon the perfect hiding spot I discovered a keyhider stuck in it. This was a cache I knew was out there but never went after it. I thought it was in a different park. I signed the logsheet and put it back.
  19. Oh don't worry, I'll unleash this piece of garbage on the entire caching community in a couple days. With a members only hide, the owner can see how many people have viewed the listing. 40 different cachers have looked at it since it was first posted earlier this morning.
  20. You state in the description that you'll delete any online logs that don't say how crappy the cache is. How serious are you about that? Will you really delete a find if someone logs it with, "This was fun, thanks"? I will first contact the cacher and give them the chance to edit their log. The cache isn't much fun so this shouldn't be a problem. However, if someone writes about how much they enjoyed trashing this turd of a cache even though they didn't like finding it, I'll leave that one go. Remember, part of a lame cache is the stupid rules you have to follow to log it as a find.
  21. The recent lameness discussions here have inspired me to place this cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...56-7d65d4bfef04 The twist is that you must tell everybody how lame it is when you log it as a find. The logs should be fun...
  22. We have plenty here in Central PA. Not too far from home either.
