  1. Greetings all, My name is Teewinot. I live in Blaine, MN. This coming saturday, June 9th, The Badlands Geocaching Group has an event set up in Glendive, Montana. This event includes a flash mob event and a geocoin give away. You can read the details here, GC3H6V9. I am the former president of the group and would really like to go back this weekend to do the event. I am looking for up to three other cachers to carpool with me to Glendive. It is a 10 hour drive. We would leave sometime on Friday the 8th and return on Sunday the 10th. I want to split the gas. I have a nissan versa that gets 35 hwy, so it wont cost a fortune if we all pitch in. There is camping available in Makoshika State Park where the event is located. I would prefer to travel with men only becuase I am married and my wife gets crazy about me spending time with other women, lol. If interested, please email me right away. If I don't have any takers by Wednesday, I will not go. You can email me through geocaching.com or patrickjc813@yahoo.com The coins are sweet and it the events are a blast, I hope I get some people interested. Thank You, Teewinot
  2. Hello Everyone, This is Teewinot here hailing from Glendive Montana. Just want to inform people that The Badlands Geocaching group is hosting a coin challenge this summer. We are also having an official coin kick off event. Go to waypoint GC1PXAF to find out about the event. There is also a link to the Glendive Chamber of Commerce website that has the details regarding the coin event. We have 100 trackable coins to give away. So please tell your friends and come to the kick-off event if you can. Any questions please feel free to email me, screen name teewinot. We hope to see you this summer. Peace. A note to the moderator, I will post this in the great plains and northwest sections, since these two are the primary regions that would actually make it to our event, so please do not delete my post from either section, thank you.

  5. Only four weeks left! the Glendive Coin Challenge will finish on November 30th. Thank you all that came and claimed a coin. And thank you to any that may still come, the weather right now is great for caching. There is still coins left for those willing to make a run for Glendive, Gas prices have cut in half since this first started, so now is the time to come. Thanks, Teewinot.

  8. The coin event is under way! All details are at www.glendivechamber.com. Since I am unable to post this information in all of the different areas of the forums, would you all please let your friends and local cache groups know about this so the word gets out please? thank you all and I hope you make it here. Teewinot.
  9. Glendive Montana is launching a coin challenge on 8-8-08. There will be 100 trackable coins given away to cachers that find eight specific caches with passwords. Unfortunately all the information cannot be posted on geocaching.com, so we are in the process of getting a webpage made ASAP so that everyone can read the rules and regulations. The information will be at http://www.glendivechamber.com/ very soon. But don’t let that stop you from checking out the coin challenge. All the information will also be available at the Chamber of Commerce in Glendive, located at 808 north Merrill, or N 47° 06.647 W 104° 42.415 in geospeak. You can also check out some of the caches in advance for some information, search for waypoint GC1E1H9 to find all the caches available in the event. So please spread the word to everyone that the event is on for sure, and check the chamber site daily for all the details, the page should be up in a few days. Have fun. Any questions, you know how to reach me. Teewinot.

  11. They most certainly did, and I have the coin from that event. That is where I got the idea from. I emailed the cacher who put that all together but with no luck. Thanks for the post.
  12. Hi! Sounds like a neat game. Did you see last year's state hidden treasures promotion? They hid a bunch of Ammo cans all over the state, inside and outside businesses. But they didn't' post them on GC.com. The biggest complaint I heard was about businesses being closed when Geocachers could be active. What I mean- I drive to visit Glendive from Missoula, MT. No matter when I leave Missoula it is gonna be about a day later when I roll into town with all the wonderful geocaches to find between here and there. And more likely than not, it will be about 6 pm. So I will go out to find the local caches. And if the businesses are closed I will not be able to get the game pieces to get to the final cache. So I will be disappointed and sad because this sounds like a neat idea. Long story short- is there anyway to hide the game pieces in such a way that they can be found 24 hours a day? And what if the Chamber is closed when I try to redeem the pieces? What hours can we expect to be able to play and how many hours will it take to find all the pieces AND get them redeemed? Caching challenges like this can be fun when done correctly. We enjoyed caching in Glendive the last time we were there. (When the Cave one was still around) I'm looking forward to another visit, maybe in October if Dean and I take a road trip around the state. Jennifer from Missoula I did not see the state hidden game, I was not living in Montana last year, but that sounds awesome! You make a valid point as well about business hours. I do believe we are going to go the route of simply finding X amount of caches in the town with passcodes in them, then you go to the chamber to redeem prize. Chamber right now is open M-F 8-5, But i believe they will be open on saturdays soon. This is a detail I want to work out with them because most cachers are going to be coming on weekends, so that makes retrieval of your prize difficult. We will work on a solution that can benefit everyone I hope. Thanks for the post and we look forward to seeing you in town later this year.
  13. I did talk to my reviewer and they simply told me to contact Groundspeak. I emailed them about 2 weeks ago and have not heard back. I know they get tons of email so I know it may take awhile, thats why I turned to the forums. The post that hydnsek left pretty much spells out that what I wanted to do is against the rules. Thats ok, we can work around it and do something else.
  14. Unless you get the required Groundspeak approval, of course. I got hung up on this one once when I wanted to have folks go into a Lowe's to get numbers off paint chips (no purchase, just paint numbers) - not allowed, and the cache didn't seem worth trying to get approval. The Cache Listing Requirements/Guidelines has lots of useful info. Thank you for the information hydnsek, I tried surfing through the rules but did not find it. But what you have outlined there pretty much tells me my idea is a no go. I think I will simply stick to finding caches in town with passwords. Thanks for the post.
  15. The cache will remain OUTSIDE of the establishment after the coin challenge is over for anyone to find. so you can log a smilie without entering the business. But in order to get a coin, you would enter the business and obtain a puzzle piece.
  16. Hello all, Teewinot here hailing from Glendive, Montana. I am working with the chamber of commerce in town to launch a geocoin challenge in a couple of weeks hopefully. So I have questions and a favor to ask. The question. Does anyone know the rules in regards to placing caches in front of a business. here is the scenario. We want to have caches placed around the town in front of businesses that are supporting the coin project. As a cacher, you would find the cache and then walk into the business and collect a game piece from the clerk. No obligation to buy anything, but we are trying to get people to see the businesses in town. So does this breach any rules? and along those lines, can we have the final cache placed inside of the chamber of commerce? the idea here is after you have found all the pieces to the puzzle, it leads you back to the chamber where you get the coin, and then you could log a cache as well. If anyone knows the answers or can point me to a rule book, please do. And now the favor. Look up Glendive and you see how small of a town it is. I do not have access to many travel bugs or coins without driving three hours to bismark or billings. We want the final cache to be large and filled with goodies. Would anyone be willing to mail me some coins or travel bugs to fill our cache? I would offer to pay the shipping, but I am not rich and if a lot of people do send them I could be bankrupt soon! If anyone would do this that would be a great asset to the caching experience we are trying to provide in town. Thank you for your time. If interested in sending coins or TB's please contact me through my profile to get my address. And keep your eyes posted for the glendive coin challenge, I will post here when we are up and running.
  17. hey beaverbeliever, remember me! I found the ape cache last summer when my wife had to go to Seattle for a job interview. It was sprinkling rain when we entered the tunnel. By the time we got to the other side, it had stopped raining, but you could tell that it had just poured while we were in there. My brother and another friend came with us. My friend got covered in black trying to find the cache inside the tunnel. This is one of my favorite caching memories. After finding the cache, we went to Snoqualmie falls, and that was a spectacular waterfall! Hope your doing well back in oregon. Take care, Teewinot.
  18. Once again, I am appreciating the feedback. I am honest and would not charge more that the cost of the coin, as one cacher pointed out, in a geocoin forum, you all know how much they cost. When I did the canby and Mt. hood coin coin search, I did the first one honestly. The second one, I did not do so honestly. I went with a geocacher who had already done the quest. There were a couple of the caches in the series that were multi caches. So we skipped the first waypoints and went straight to the caches to get the code word and sign the log. In a sense this is cheating I guess, but I did find the caches. However, I do know that some cachers signed other cachers names and filled out a paper so that they could get a coin, even when they did not do the search! I do not agree with this method and If this cointest goes through, the rule will be One coin per physical person. Also, I want to limit the coins to one per family. Some families have three kids that all have a seperate caching name, they do not all need a coin. So far, this cointest would only take a couple of hours, and you would have an opportunity to log plenty of caches in a day. So you would get some smileys, and a coin. More than likely, the coin would only be available during chamber business hours, but we will play with this idea and see if maybe I could hold on to half the coins to hand out to people on the weekends. I dont know, there is a lot to hammer out first, but I do hope we can give it away for free.
  19. Thank you for the feedback so far. I spoke with the chamber of commerce tonight about this en devour and they seem excited. My thoughts are only having one cache to find in order to claim the coin. However, this is a multicache and you would have to visit historical parts of town to answer questions in the multicache. This would be a history tour of the city. The city I live in isn't even a city, its town, our population is barely 5,000. so not a big tourist attraction. The only thing we got going for us is the largest state park in Montana is right on the outskirts of town. So keep your eyes posted for upcoming information. I may post a new thread after we have more details and try to spread the word across the country.
  20. Hello, this is teewinot, hailing from Montana. I have a question for all coin fans out there. But first, some background information. Last summer I found two coins given away by the city of Canby, Oregon and then the MT. Hood Territories gave a coin away as well. The basic concept was that you had to find so many caches in the area, these caches had a special code word in them. You wrote down the Waypoint code and the special word on a sheet given to you by the city chamber of commerce. If you found the caches, you took the sheet back to the chamber and they gave you a free, trackable coin. I thought this was awesome and it was a lot of fun. I am trying to get the chamber of commerce in my city to do the same, but as you all know coins are expensive to make. So here comes the question. With rising gas prices, would you be willing to travel to a city and find caches in the town to get a coin? Would you be willing to pay for the coin? the cost of the coin would only be to cover the cost of production, we are not trying to make money off of this cointest. Would you be more willing to come if the coin has a trackable code? Would it be worth earning the coin if it were not trackable? O.K. so that was more than one question, but this will help me to convince the chamber that this is a fun thing and that geocachers are willing to do this in the pursuit of a cool coin. Please let me know your opinion on this. Thank you.
  21. hello my name is teewinot, I was thinking about the 50 states cache and posted it as a topic, then someone sent me here, I am glad there are others out there with this idea. My thoughts were to have this as traditional caches placed in each states capitol. I was hoping Groundspeak would get involved and make a special icon for finding that state cache, but others said that Groundspeak has been staying away from that idea so far. so how about this, what if each state had a geocoin placed inside the cache that people could discover. it would be fastened or welded or whatever so it could not be taken. the coin could be an original idea or fashoned after the state quarter but since all of those have not been displayed yet that would hinder the process. anyway, I see that someone has pledged for oregon but I would pledge as well since I live in the capitol. I agree with someones posting that a prize of some sort would be awesome. I think making a puzzle out of this would be a little over the top, just to find all 50 would be more than enough I think. To spread this idea I would be willing to try and contact geo groups in each state, they are not hard to find and get the idea moving. ps, I am new to the forums and did not realize there were alot more pages to read on this topic, as I can see some ideas have already been put in motion, so basically my post is useless, but I will read the rest of the threads now. thanks
  22. I don't know where to spread this idea other than here so here goes. I think there should be 50 exclusive caches placed across the unites states in the capitol city of each state. these caches would have a specific icon to show that you have found that cache. Groundspeak could make a competition out of this and give away a prize to FTF of all 50 states. I'm pretty sure that every state has a group of cachers now that could dedicate some time to make and maintain their state cache and be responsible for it. there are many details that could go into this, but would this be a good idea? if many people think so, how would I pass this on to Groundspeak?
