  1. Okay, I am curious about my status. The status says "You've found 1997 caches (1996 distinct) since your first cache...".

Does this mean I have logged a cache twice? If so, what is the easiest way to figure this out?

I have downloaded "My Finds" pocket query and it only has 1996 caches in it. So that doesn't appear to be a solution.

    Looking for some assistance.

    Thanks,

    Tom

  2. If you want to return the Google map and Google satelite view into your geocaching map, install Mozilla Firefox and Grease Monkey add-on. Then download this script and install it. This script adds these two map views into new map (see the map options in upper right corner). Credit goes to Pesulap from Czech Republic.

I can't figure out how to get this to load. It saves a file 116103.user.js to my desktop, but that is it.

Any chance of this script being tweaked to support terrain maps?

  3. I think Groundspeak/Geocaching.com, the owners and the community, would greatly benefit from a beta test group. If not beta test, at least a group of site users and site developers to discuss proposed changes to the site before going live. In addition, it would be excellent if all the incredible suggestions here were somehow ranked and the community knew what the development status of these items were. Its a given, the community does not "own" the site. But in my hallucination the site owners and site users might collaborate better than what we are seeing today. Thanks.

  4. How are challenges remotely connected to geocaching?

    Discounting the whole worldwide challenge thing, as they more closely resemble locationless;

Virtual: Go to a place. (used to log a picture) Log your experience.

Challenges: Go to a place. Take a picture. Log your experience.

    It's not a geocache.

    Neither are virtuals.

    Correct, they aren't geocaches either.

Sounds like we should pull earth caches too. That would be truly sad.

  5. I don't like the new "Challenges" .

The Idea is old, but has another Name.

Some time ago there were Locationless, and Webcamcaches.

Now they are off the list, but can remain.

It is jsut not allowed to add new ones.

The good thing about a Webcamcache for example was there you actually have to be there in order to prove your presence.

Couchpotatoes can sit at home, and Log more than 100 "Caches" a day.

I would prefer it if there are no "Challenges", but new Webcam or Locationless Caches.

Or a a seperate valuation system.

Or at least a single valuation system only for Challenges.

Yesterday there was a very hard challange for many Caches.

Post a pic of a cachefound.

Any good Cacher has at least one Picture at home of one Cache.

What i really dont like is that Challenges are easily added to the normal Cachefounds.

Actually i could ask a friend to create like 100 challenges a day for me, and my number raises and raises.

Persoanlly i will not participate in any challenges, as this is not a part of Geocaching for me.

Geocaching for me means being outside, and prove your presence.

Sign a log, or post a picture.

    Please Groundspeak, don't allow challenges.

  6. Virts and webcam caches, in my experience, are so specific that I can't imagine the CO being concerned of there being a burden. If there was a burden, the CO would simply archive the cache... I still believe they should be brought back.

No, they both follow the same concept. You think that virtuals and webcams are specific because there's only so many left of them today, and most of those are good. But most everything that you see submitted as challenges today (minus the invalid locationless ones) could have been submitted as virtuals. Imagine a herd of reviewers having to wade through all that carp.

I guess I would need to see some specific examples because I don't see it that way.

  7. I would recommend bringing back virtual geocaches over challenges...

Better yet, bring back webcam caches.

Challenges are a viable replacement for both virts and webcam caches (and LCs). I can't imagine a single virtual cache or webcam cache that cannot be a challenge cache.

Pretty much spot on... Then why get rid of them at all and re-introduce them in a "challenge type of thing"?

Because the new concept places the burden of reviewing them on the community instead of the reviewers.

  9. Add me to the please bring back the actual log date. What's up with the "challenges"??? These need to be put on some other web site, not geocaching.com! I was led to believe that the use of a GPSr was a prime requirement for things on this site.

Violent Agreement! Challenges need a separate site just like Waymarking.com

    Please remove from geocaching.com...

Do challenges have anything at all to do with a GPSr?
