Your BEST Geocaching story EVER
Count Fartula replied to UncleJames's topic in General geocaching topics
Last summer while looking for a spot to hide my first cache in a city park a naked man walked down the trail past me. -
Ever look for geocaches when not geocaching
Count Fartula replied to brodiebunch's topic in General geocaching topics
If i'm waiting/going some where with the wife or a friend i'll open the iPhone app to see if anything can be grabbed quickly. -
I personally prefer to wear clothing that blends in. People tend to get spooked when they see someone just standing there in the woods off trail. Cargo green and tan stuff works great. I've been within 10' and people just walked by.

Hunter etiqutte (meaning the kind with guns)
Count Fartula replied to Vartan84's topic in General geocaching topics
Last weekend I was out and there were a lot of bow hunters in the same park. All of the ones I saw were in trees off trail. Way off trail. I'm guessing they were smart enough to set up away from where other park users would be frequenting. The park is used heavily by mountain bikers, joggers and hikers as it is right outside the city. -
I found a pack of Toastchee crackers in a terrain 5 that requires a boat to get to. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...46-f5a9381192a8

Sticking Your Hands In Scary Spots
Count Fartula replied to cr4zybilly's topic in General geocaching topics
Having a bee sting allergy I always poke with a stick and wear gloves when sticking my hand inside something. Geocaching in summer is scary for me. In winter that threat is gone. -
My only FTF rewarded me with a quarter. On the 2nd trip there.

I've been doing this for 3 months. I have not found one cool piece of swag until last week. At least, IMO. I carry brand new magnetic nanos and bison tubes for trade. It took 77 finds to get this: I couldn't believe it. Awesome patch! It was in GCQX2J Blackbeard's Point. Thanks to whoever dropped this. I left a bison tube.

I had to re-retrieve 3 of them recently.

I need a new flashlight

I use a Cats Eye LED bicycle headlight. Size of a Lifesavers roll and ridiculously bright. http://www.cateye.com/en/product_detail/561 -
I just did one like this. Unclimbable tree with cache hanging on branch about 20' up. How hard is it to find a stick long enough to place it back or come back with a step ladder? I found a long branch, notched the tip like so: V, then hooked it. This sport is about the adventure. I would leave the find and post a note above it stating how lame the person is for not putting it back. I think that would be more satisfying then just deleting it. Everyone who looks at the logs will see it and know they suck.

IMO, If someone is going to steal the vehicle they will do so regardless if there is a sign there or not. A non-car thief may break the window if they see something to take but most are opportunistic and will not bother unless the car door is unlocked and are certain no one is around. Thats my city slicker perspective.

Found cremated remains instead of cache
Count Fartula replied to gprgrl's topic in General geocaching topics
I found one of those black ash boxes in an alley once. While working a window job when I was younger. Name was Chester Wilson. Thats the only info that was with it. Strange... -
In the short month I have been doing this I have already figured out that people just grab whatever crap their kids dropped on the floor of the car to throw in these things it would seem.

When a good cache takes a wrong turn.
Count Fartula replied to magking1971's topic in General geocaching topics
Good grief.... I mean really....That is just dumb.... -
I'm new to this and have avoided some of those already. Just not worth waiting for muggles to go away. However, I would hit one if I were to go out and not nail down more difficult ones just to get the satisfaction of finding something on any particular excursion. I don't like going out and coming back empty handed.

I used the scavenger hunt for charity line twice recently and it went over well. They just shrugged and moved on.
