  1. Up until a month or so ago I could edit the downloaded information in EasyGPS so what appeared on the Garmin was the name of the cache instead of the GC code. In the Note area I put in the size, hide, and terrain information. Made it a lot easier to know what I might be encountering. And, yes, I sometimes put in hints. Last time I tried to move a batch of edited caches though, the edited information was not transferred. IS there a way to bring back the previous format?
  2. I'm slow getting hang of the posting procedure. Somehow never saws the box to post a query but found I'd "posted" twice with not message. Ah, me. I'll be taking a river crusie from Moscow to St. Petersburg in the fall and would appreciate any tips or information that might be useful there. I've done some caching in the Middle East without problems. But in Amsterdam we were warned not to let the police see us extracting small containers from hiding places. A German couple said that it was not a good idea to say the word "cache". I hadn't enough experience there to know if this was realistic or fun at our expense. Still, I'll err on the side of caution and appreciate anything of help when we're in Russia. Thank you.
  3. When I download a list of caches from the website to my computer they all come up as regular 1 1. So, I go in and change the information, save it as new file and then transfer it to my GPS device. How come the information doesn't come through as published? Part 2: I like to copy the page listing caches into Word, do a little editing, and use the printed file as a guide while out in the field, make it with F's or DNF's and use it as a reference when back to logging them. Sometime the column with type and difficulty transsfers (i.e. copies) as it shows up on the screen; other times it comes out with a big question mark in each cell. Any ideas why this happens or if there is something I can do to prevent it? thanks
  4. I did pretty well in all my math classes and I enjoy crossword and cryptic puzzles. But I'm darned if I can figure out what to do with a puzzle cache that lists a string of numbers. One in particular looked like binary code but there were far too many groups of numbers to plug in as the digits of coordinates. Can anyone give me a hint of how to approach them? Thank you.
  5. My map 60CSx now offers capital and small letters to search for caches or cities by name. Is there any way to keep it in all caps as the older model did? Part 2: The city search seems to work all right, but when I look for a cache which I have entered as - for example - "ABCD" it brings up the list starting with the W's. I can page through okay, but have no idea how to get it to start with the letter I want.
  6. Clicking on the box to not show found caches still doesn't work. did I miss some instructions about it?
  7. When we travel - months at a time - we don't always have internet access. This was especially true years ago and I didn't always remember to log all my finds. I've been sorting through all my written notes and have found a dozen or so that I can't log as they have been archived. Would logging old finds be part of the reason for listing?
  8. On a tour of Washington D. C. we launched our kaykas on the Potomac to go geocaching. tricky trying to land on the slippery little rock island, but that's one of the few real - as opposed to virtual - caches in the area. Love all the shots of the kayaks in this post; could almost be ours.
  9. There was a notice about the change - showing all caches in an area even with the box not to show them checked - a while back. I understood the web page was being reworked and this was a temporary problem. But I'm still getting the full list. Did I miss something? Or is everyone getting them all?
  10. and where exactly are we to type in the characters? before or after the search code? spaces?
  11. Lately, in spite of my checking the box not to show caches I've found, they all show up. Has Groundspeak changed something? Is anyone else having this happen?
  12. The last few times I've logged on all the caches in an area show up, even though I put a check mark in the box asking to exclude those i've already found. Is anyone else having this happen?
  13. I have to change the numbers on the account used for my annual payment and have spent half an hour wandering around the website without finding anything useful (oh, okay, I did spent part of the time reading stuff I hadn't seen before. I'd sure appreciate knowing what the link to this looks like and where it is. thanks
  14. How about URP? I've found this as the "clue" in some caches in Texas. If this were Nevada I'd figure it means "Under Rock Pile"...
  15. Is there a quick way to save a batch of cache pages? Before we set out on a trip I'll find a dozen or so in one area and more further along the highway. I can download the coordinates to my laptop easily, but then it takes hours to access the individual pages and copy them into a Word file. From there I edit them down to the essentials, including the encrypted hints and print them out to have while searching. Is there a quicker way?
