  1. Thank you very much, that is what I was wanting to figgure out. I appreciate it.
  2. Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I did a search and did not find what I was looking for. I have not been here in such a long, long time, nor have I used my GPS in a long time. My son-in-law is in the Air Force stationed in Germany. He and my daughter recently made an early Christmas request for a GPS. Now forgive me if this sounds stupid, but, do all GPS units work all over the world? Do you just have to change the map datum? I guess what I really want to know is can a GPS bought here in the good ole USA work in Germany? Or will I need to download additional information? I can tell my son-in-law all about using it here where we live, but when they go back to Germany, I don't have a clue as to what to tell them. Thanks.
  3. It willprobably be THE COMPLETE IDIOT GUIDE FOR DUMMIES
  4. There are timber rattlers here in East Texas as well, but what you really have to look out for are the Copperheads. You won't hear them at all, unlike a rattler that may warn you with its rattles before striking, or it may not. Don't try to be like the Crocodile Hunter either, just let the snake be and give it plenty of room. Most of the time they are just as scared of you as you are of it. Cache on.
  5. The owner wants the entry to be vague?!?! He oughta practice what he preaches, the cache page itself goes on and on about water drainage and water flow from Flagstaff. In the imortal words of Homer Simpson, "BORING!" I agree with everyone else, you found it, you were there, just move one. The owner's profile would appear to indicate why they are 'concerned' with vagueness. Cache on!
  6. I have a Streamlight LED flashlight that uses 4 AA batteries and is plenty bright. Its waterproof too and fits nicely into a nylon holster. A headlamp also works well, even better, in conjunction with a flashlight.
  7. WOW, I'm glad to know that there are others out there similar to me that like GC as well. Thanks for posting.
  8. Hello to all, I have tried several searches for this topic only to find info on cache types for people with disabilities. I apologize in advance if this is repetitve or annoying. My question is, who are the cachers out there who have a disability? Do you use a mobility device such as a wheelchair or walker? I have a spincal cord injury but have been intrigued with GC. I haven't done any hunting in a while, but plan to get back into it soon. Introduce yourselves and say "hi".
  9. I take a small notebook (something 5x8) and a pencil. I log the date and time found, weather, or anything specific about the cache (similar to what and how I use the log in the cache itself). Then when I get home, open the log and start putting the info on GC.com. When the notebook is full, get another one and keep going. Before too long you will have established a library of your past adventures. Of course if I could go paperless that would be cool, but on a limited budget, pencil and paper work just fine.
  10. I am paralyzed from the waist down and havent been geocaching for a while. I love it when I am the one who can find the cache instead of someone who has gone with me. Most people don't realize that a 1 on terrain for them may not actually be a i in terrain for someone in a chair. Everybody would be able to find the cache and enjoy the sport. Rock on!
  11. Well it seems that no matter how I try to explain or show my other half about geocaching, she just doesn't care. If there is the slightest chance she will get dirty, hot and sweaty, it ain't gonna happen. So I just leave her to her couch, the A?C and her telephone. The kids seem to enjoy it though.
  12. What do I NOT use my Leatherman for??? I've had a Leatherman since they first came out and carry it with me everywhere. I constantly use it for any and everything where a "quick and handy" tool is needed. I've used other multi-tools but prefer my Leatherman.
  13. ...well I THOUGHT the kids were getting into it, but I guess not. I have all but quit the hobby because no one wants to go with me and its hard being in a wheelchair to go alone. The wife thinks it is simply stupid to get out and do somthing such as this. Guess I'll just keep dreamin' and lookin' for friends who are interested.

You won't know unless you try.
  15. uhhhhh, I like the name DAVE! ...or maybe Rasheed.
  16. WOW I posted this same thread about a year ago and got flamed really bad. But I too think it is very interesting of how folks came up with their names. Mine was an old CB handle from way back when. Then it went on to be used in IM services and an e-mail account then finally to here. phantom kb5yue "Free your mind" - Morpheus - The Matrix
  17. Hmmmm...maybe you could have a travel bug with Moose poop make it around the Geocache community. Guess then it would be a "dung" beetle huh? phantom kb5yue "Free your mind" - Morpheus - The Matrix

  21. You know... depending on "our" (Texas Geocachers) approach to this issue, we might even get park managers involved in the sport/hobby/hunt. Texas has so many well kept parks with riding/walking trails that it would be a shame NOT to promote a little "treasure hunt" for some folks. You know, make 'em git up out of the cmapers or tents and explore the natural flora & fauna of this great state and have fun doing it. Just my one and three quarters cents worth. phantom kb5yue "Free your mind" - Morpheus - The Matrix
