  1. Spoke to Phil at Garmin who is sending a disk with all the correct files on it, should be here in a couple of days.
  2. Thanks Cacheoholic, we put those files on but it still wouldn't recognise the unit. We have, however, put some files on from a 450t in the hope that this worked, this had the following results: - Unit is now recognised, albeit as a 450t - I've changed the unit type and ID in the GPS device and systems files on the unit itself and it says in Webupdater that it's a 400t but is trying to download 450t software - I've got round this now and have managed to get the latest updates for the 400t on the unit now. - Unit seems to work OK now with the exception of the fact we can't choose English as a language and I can't change profiles or even make a new profile?? Any ideas anyone? Thanks
  3. Have you tried any of the recovery methods on the Garmin Oregon wiki? It isn't clear whether these restore the file system or not. I performed a recovery as described on the wiki site, to no avail :-( Currently trying to get a hold of someone with the same unit to copy the files.. good thinking!
  4. After a few connectivity/SD Card issues with our Garmin, this morning I decided to wipe the card and start again.. unfortunately I managed to wipe the entire unit! I have spent the whole afternoon reading through pages and pages of support, and have managed to get as far as resetting and re-installing the firmware for the device, but this has not restored any of the visible file system, and the unit is no longer recognised by the updater or the Garmin website. Can anyone help, or perhaps point me in the direction of someone who can????
  5. Thanks for all the replies and thans Redsox Mark, unforutnately for one reason or another we've only just managed to come back to the forum and won't be able to post it to you in time :-( Saddle 21, when are you going to Canada (hope we've not missed this too) and if we've still got time please could you email me your address (dave@miragegraphics.co.uk) and I will post it to you ASAP. Thanks again everyone.
  6. After posting on here I have now been on a county training day and one of the workshops that was run there was on Geocaching. Everyone who went on the workshop really enjoyed it and was still talking about it at the evening meal. The walking advisor for our county is trying very hard to bring Geocaching to all units and is wanting each division within the county to have its own cache. The county have also purchased 6 GPS units (through grants) that can be loaned to any unit within the county in order to take the girls out geocaching. I also discussed with him the idea of launching a guiding geocoin that he things is an extremely good idea which he is going to take forward and hopefully we will be able to launch it within the centenary year. 7. What a coincidence. I am in the process of taking over as guider in charge at our local Brownies group and I was chatting with my hubby about the possibility of taking the Brownes geocaching. We have come up with ideas from me hiding caches for them with special geocaching badges inside to commissioning a brownies coin for our county or even the wider Brownies units, if we could get the buy in from many units it could be a possibility. We have also thought about getting a travel bug for our unit and sending it around the country visiting other units. I do like the idea of having a unit cache that the girls can contribute to may have to think of somewhere to put one of those. I am also going on a county training course this weekend and one of the topics is learning about geocaching for those who've not heard of it, and the best way of doing it with our girls. 8. Hi all, First of all, we are newbies, so I hope this is on the correct forum, but we need a little help. Are any fellow cachers planning a trip accross the pond in the near future? We just picked up a geocoin, and without any logbook or tag attached, knew nothing about its mission until returning home to log our finds on the website. When we did so, we discovered that the coin came from the USA, and Its mission is to travel WITHIN the USA (oh dear). We would love to get this coin back to onto its mission without just passing it around the UK, but unfortunately an american holiday isn't in sight for us.
