  1. I considered doing a psychic cache similar to this. The first cache would give you three sets of coords and it would state that "I know which one you're going to choose." Sure enough the cacher picks one and when they get there the cache says "See! I was right" and gives you another three sets to choose from. Eventually you make it to the cache. I didn't do it because I figured that most cachers weren't that dumb. I like your idea better.
  2. The local EMS sport shop has a map, that I printed with my inkjet printer on NG paper, stored in water. It doesn't run.
  3. I believe 'E' is the most common letter.
  4. Here's the message as it appears (3 times) -- |.|..|||...||||||..||...| .||...||||.|||...|.|..|.. ||....|...||..||..||....| There may be 3 different symbols, but the image is too blurry to distinguish between them. To me, it looks like you're supposed to spin the little man. If his left foot falls on the red color you have to put your left foot on the red spot....wait a minute...sounds familiar.
  5. There is a similar disk on Voyager (I believe) with music from around the world. Earth recently received a coded message from space that said "Send more Chuck Berry". The message on this disk says "More Chuck Berry available for $19.95."
  6. Welcome to the fun, Bryan. You've come to the right place!
  7. This guy is going to have a job taking these lights down. He duct-taped the lights to the side of his house! He used hundreds (thousands?) of strips of duct tape to attach the lights. I hope all the residue comes off!
  8. I use the ink-jet paper setting when I print just to get it a little denser. I also use really cheap ink cartridges ($3 each). I don't know how the magic is done, but it is amazing. Why water? The local EMS store had me print a topo for them that they store in water at the store to show off the properties of the paper.
  9. I use Adventure paper with cheap inks and I can't get them to run or bleed, even underwater. Great stuff. Don't forget, you can use both sides of the paper. There is no bleed through.
  10. I like the gadget and the hunting, she likes the walks together and the picnics. Try what we do. Pack a bottle of wine, some cheese and crackers, some fruit, etc. Pick a cache with a nice view and enjoy the day together. It's a great way to spend time together. If you're going to a park and packing wine, make sure they allow it.
  11. As long as the geocaching community continues to give some sort of 'status' based on a cacher's find count we will continue to see this sort of thing.
  12. I agree with Seneca. It's not a competition. If you want to play it like it is then go ahead. To each his own. I have a couple of FTFs and they don't mean squat to me. Do what Seneca said. Pick a couple that look interesting and intrigue you. Those are the ones you will remember most. Enjoy the day. Enjoy the spot. Enjoy the find. Welcome to the fun.
  13. If Disney owned the site this thread would have been shut down in less than a minute.
  14. I find that I can often tell where the sun is on an overcast day by looking DOWN to see where my shadow falls. If it is too overcast for that then, yes, a compass will provide the direction based on the bearing given by your GPS.
  15. Actually, it looks like entering coords, with its full keypad, is a lot easier than any of the newer models. Unless, of course, you use a cable.
  16. travisl, Works great! Thanks!
  17. Which GPS do you have? Some, like the Magellan 315, come set to 2 decimals, but recent firmware updates allow it to be set to 3.
  18. All good advice. Just one more thing. Exert yourself at only about 60% of your capacity. This will ensure that you don't sweat too much.
  19. Ummm...Rte. 2 doesn't go to New Hampshire.
  20. Ditto on the eTrex Yellows. Target had them for 80-something-dollars a couple days ago.
  21. Since posters come and go, my guess is that a year from now cachers will wonder who these people are. El Diablo, you get my vote. Note only for your level-headed posts, but also for the many other things you do for the sport.
  22. Is this the sort of thing you are looking for? It's called a 'preform'. This is what your water/soda bottles look like before they are expanded. Definitely waterproof and very sturdy. You could stand on it and not break it. This is a little 4" inch, I also have a couple 8" ones. They were sent to me by a geocacher, so in the name of 'paying it forward' I will send you (Fritz) one if you send me your address.
