  1. I am an officer in the groups I am referring to and the question is in regard to both officers and regular members. It appears to me that listing order of regular members is in the order they joined the group. I have based promotions in the group I manage based in length of membership in the group. There are others groups where regular members have not shown activity. I wondered if other managers use this same process for promotions and if so non-activity could result in promotions of members no longer active in Waymarking. I was asking this question to see what was being done in other groups. Thank you for the replies.
  2. Several of the groups I belong have members that not logged on for over 12 months. How long should we wait until sending them a message asking if the still wish to in the group?
  3. I just look for the person pretending that their GPS is a cell phone. Or the one’s with all the scratches on their face and hands. Really after you have done it awhile you can mostly tell if someone is caching or just happens to be in the area. Enjoy your adventures. Woolsox
  4. Great sign, but this number is REAL Copies of CATALYST may be requested by calling (800) 2-FIND-IT - that's (800) 234-6348 - or by writing Consumer Direct Access, Department C, 345 California St., 21st Floor, San Francisco, CA 94104. 866-234-6348 seems to be unused.
  5. Thank you for asking the question. And thank you for the answer. Woolsox
  6. Here's another idea. Contact the owner of the cache you think is close, tell them wherel you would like to place your new cache. Ask them if this is within the range limit. If not go for it, if so try a new spot. Woolsox
  7. I think that in addition to reading and following the guidelines you should find a few more hides. See what others have done well and not so well. Think about who besides a cacher is going to find you hide. We have seen many reports about the bomb squad being called out because of a suspicious package being spot near a bridge, school, building, etc. So enjoy the adventure to come and welcome.
  8. With the current state of the auto industry, the recent sale of Damiler-Chryler and the layoffs at many Chrysler plants I would be willing to say that a 2009 Jeep TB would be doubtful. Woolsox
  9. It would seem that with the number of incidents of this type just recently that those with caches anywhere near any type of bridge, school, place of commerce, etc. would be giving thought to reviewing and/or revising their hides. It does seem that quite a few of them have been in CA. Woolsox
  10. I have seen a couple of new caches that have some characters in the clue that I'm not familiar with. The example below is one of them. v@8=655 s2F 2 56F82:?° &82:?]}2H 42?E 2 D2:E9 2 A965H2C F82:? ^ v@C==6H:? %C: 2 A965H2C F82:?° w2??6C 42?E 2 D2:E9](JE9 42?E 24 F? 2C 5568 2C 9F82:? Could anybody tell what this is trying to tell me?
  11. I've flown about 6 times (all within the USA)since 9/11 with my GPS, Palm, camera and other electronic items The only item I have every had a questioned on was the DVD player. The sign says you only need to open and power up laptops. I have found that it is better to open the DVD player and carry all small electronic items in a separate easy open bag. I use small fanny pack. Someone I know works for the TSA in an international terminal and they will give these items a closer look.
  12. A noble effort at an opportunity that you could not have passed up.
  13. Other then a little blood to biting insects, I have lost only two items. Spare battery because I forgot to zip the front pocket on my bag and the second Travel Bug I ever found. The battery was no big deal, but the travel bug I felt bad about losing it. I was only the second person the grab it. I had planned to take on our trip to Scotland it 2001 and had not realized it was missing until I got home to log that I had it. We were leaving the next day and I could not go look for it until we returned. I went back to the area and looked without success. I did mange to track down the owner and tell them I lost it and that their may wish to send it to the travel bug graveyard. That was in 2001 and so far nothing else.
  14. I see nothing wrong with your picture. I have one showing a beer can sitting on a rock in the middle of a river ( asked if this was FTF prize? ). If anybody has taken offence, they have not said so. I think it is amusing.
  15. 5 years premium membership $150.00 3 GPS's (First one brought with Discover Card Points) $560.00 The enjoyment of Geocaching - PRICELESS.
  16. Thank you for the posting. I very much enjoyed the video. We cached in Scotland in 2002, and are looking forward to a trip to Ireland in 2007.

    NEWBIE

Welcome and enjoy. The only find I have outside of the U.S. is in Scotland, GC4667 the "Ettrick Shepherd". We had two DNF's (Did Not Find), but still enjoyed our trip to your beautiful country. You may wish to download the Geocache browser in Google Earth on the "My account" page of the Geocaching website. I find helpful to locate my next search.
  18. I have not really had a bad time caching, others who have gone with me will probably not agree. My most memorable cache was a DNF. It was one a series of thirteen (should have been a clue) in the Huron-Metro Parks hidden in 2005. We had already completed the first eleven of the series and when to Wolcott Mill for number twelve. We parked near the farm-learning center and headed in the direction of the cache. We followed a trail for about a half mile before it ended. Nevertheless, being the expect cachers we are and having dressed appropriately we headed into the brush. After another half mile, we run into a wide creek and the GPS says we are still 35 ft away. We decrypt the clue and now both GPS and clue confirm that we are indeed on the wrong side. I say we go back to the car and find a road and path on the other side. My wife says there is no one around take off your pants and wade across the creek. So of course, I protest that it is too deep, fast, buggy, rocky, etc. Therefore, when I get to the other side the GPS is bouncing around and point in the direction that I just came from. I am climbing up and down the banks over, under fallen trees, find an old farmhouse, and of course hikers found whom I must hide. I did not find the cache, but after later reading the logs I am sure I walked around the location several times. Still we had great time on the quest.
  19. Avery labels a very nice site for making labels and other items. http://www.avery.com/home.html
  20. In September 2001, we were planning to take, a trip to Scotland (scheduled to leave 9/13/01, delay until 5/02). The friends we were traveling with had stated that on their last trip they had trouble get finding their lodgings one night. Hearing this I thought that I would borrow my brother-in-laws GPS. His was one the very first available to the public, very slow and difficult to use and without a manual. Then I decided to look to obtain my own, did a web search, and found the Geocaching website. I discovered a cache in a park near where I work. Therefore, on 10/0/2001 I found Huron on the Right Track (GC965) and have been caching ever since
  21. Are you are talking about the map symbols in Google Earth, as in the symbol used on each placemark? If so I have changes them when I placed them in "My Places" by right-click and choose edit. You should see a display of symbols to pick from. Good Luck. Woolsox
  22. I have kept two items that I have taken from a cache and not placed it another cache. One was a Michigan lanyard and the other was a first finder prize (which was not even in the cache). I believe that most of the item I find in caches are meant to be moved from cache to cache or for children. But I also leave my signature item in caches (Woolsox Geocache Token) and I have no problem with cachers who wish to keep them.
  23. About 75% of my find have been by myself, usually during lunch. I have done some in parks and others in urban areas. Unless it is an unfound cache, I read the logs and have avoided one's that had statements about the "other" non-caching activity the area. I carry a cell phone and wear the appropriate footwear. Just as in any activity, you have to be aware of the surroundings.
  24. How about a catergory for dog parks? I recently visited one near my brother-in-law in CO. It was a great place to take his two dogs to run and play with other dogs.
