  1. Thanks to all who have posted to this thread. I'm pretty sure that they aren't going to approve this, but hey, this is what you're supposed to do. I can say with conviction that I will NEVER be a premium member for this site again, and will look to take my business elsewhere. Thanks again for the kind words about the cache in question.
  2. I recently submitted for approval a virtual cache at Pickwick Dam Powerhouse. The actual object is a 10 foot tall, 20 foot wide turbine that was removed from the dam after 50 yrs of service and put on display with a description of how hydroelectricity is produced. This was the original turbine installed here in the '30s. I placed it due to the historic and economic impact that electric power produced by this brought the Industrial Revolution to Tennessee. This cache was archived by the reviewer, and I subsequently appealled that decision. This is to ask if YOU the members of this forum believe that the cache is worthy of placement and approval. I ask for your yes or no for all to see. Thanks for reading and responding. Bikr
  3. Hey Mike, I still want about $40 to $50 worth. Since I work in J town and don't have a pay pal, would it be easier for me to just pick them up from you when they come in? Drop me an email, or let me know here. Edit.... By the way, I will be out of state until Jan 1.
  4. Hey primo.. still around though I haven't posted lately. Tracking doesn't matter so much to me either, but numbered would be cool. GOWT works for me, but I hope my feet don't start to hurt. It would put a real damper on my caching. Like I said before, just let me know when you need the cache?? cash?? Getting my homonyms confused here... lol
  5. I agree with bit here on making noise for avoidance. I will however say that "the cottonmouth" or water mocassin is VERY agressive, especially at certian times of the year. I've had more than one chase me while fishing waist deep in creeks. Not a very pleasant feeling, but it's just part of living in W. Tennessee. You get used to it after a few years. Always carry a walking stick as they are very good to use as "feelers" but also as the Scout Handbook says "to keep between you and the dog who is overly protective of his property". Happy Hunting!!
  6. GOWT.. isn't that a joint ailment or something primo?? Ohhh wait.. that's gout!!! DUH.. Nevermind....
  7. Hey primo.. great to meet you and your son at the Geo Event!! Count me in for about $50 to $60 worth of the coins. Let me know when you get the final design and amount it's going to cost and we'll talk further about it.
  8. OK Tapps.. here's the deal. From reading all the replies so far, it seems that Garmin is the overwhelming fav. I tend to disagree. I have a Meridian Gold I purchased for $199. It's a great GPSr that does really well recieving in cover such as trees and bush. No need to hold it a certian way, and I've only lost signal with it once. In VERY deep cover, as in under rocks. It has expandable memory with an SD card. Up to 512 MB. Using MapSend, that's almost all of the US in detailed, backroad maps. I'm talking even the farm roads are on it. I love the Meridian and wouldn't buy anything else. I would however recommend going with the Platinum if you can afford it, as the electronic compass and barometeric altimeter are nice. Just my opinion.
  9. I am a cacher that is very interested in benchmark hunting. I haven't found any benchmarks as of yet, not that I've logged anyway. I recently found a brass disc set into rock that looked exactly like a survey disc, but it was completely worn away as far as indent numbers. What would I do in that case? Also, there are lots of old RR beds in my area with several benchmarks on them. Do the railroad companies sell this land? Could this be private property now? Any help anyone could give would be appreciated.
  10. Well, I love the idea of getting together, but I like some others I'm sure work evening shifts, so I prefer WEEKEND like a Saturday. Not Friday, because well, guess what I work then, too. Looking forward to being a part of this!!
