  1. quote:Originally posted by Equinox 2002:I've got a cache that I posted last weekend and it still hasn't been approved. I know it takes a while sometimes, but this is approaching 5 days. Any suggestions on how to (gently) prod an admin to take action on it? Thanks, - Equinox 2002 I would suggest just waiting. The cache isn't going anywhere and people will still be as anxious to find it whenever it pops up. Approvers are like the rest of us...they have jobs and lives outside geocaching...they don't sit by the computer waiting for our cache page submissions...I least I don't THINK they do. Also, every other cacher and his brother (and sister and mother-in-law) place caches on the weekend and then submit them on ... they all come rushing in to the approvers at the same time. I know, I've been there...approving and submitting caches. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  2. . I checked Dan Miller's statistics page yesterday and it wouldn't *come up*. Today I did a search for Dan Miller on the forums and found a thread which included this recent entry. **************** Stat page web host is dead. I sent an e-mail out and here is the response: Unfortunately, the site has been shut down and the company has gone out of business. All of our operations will cease completely on 8/15/2003. Thanks for the interest, Mike Haboustak InsideCorner.com, LLC ****************** InsideCorner is where Dan had his stats info stored. If, for some reason, Dan doesn't get the data up and running somewhere else, maybe it's time for those computer geeks who have given us some other great programs to consider a *mining operation* on Jeremy's database to provide a new view of the statistics. After all, how will we know which of the bay area cachers hits 2,000 first!? Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.

  5. A snippet: quote:Originally posted by georgeandmary:[ The death of caching in the valley has little to do with the site and more to do with the people in the valley. george Wanna go for a ride? 6. quote:Originally posted by fizzymagic:So what's the deal? Why has the flow of new geocaches in the Bay Area dried up recently? Is it a problem getting new caches approved, or is everyone burned out on placing new caches? I'm seriously considering archiving a couple of mine and placing new ones, just so that there is _something_ new for people! What? Fizzy and Hemlock don't have enough to do?! Maybe Hemlock should place some caches. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  7. . "Not I.", said the multi-challenged cacher....again. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.

  9. . A cold front is here! Overcast in Stockton right now and the promise of a cool day ahead. I would guess that hot weather here in the valley has kept cachers at home a bit. It's suppose to be in the low to mid 90's for the next 5 days or so...maybe down to high 80's. Get out the parka! ************* I have had three requests for some help on Gung Ho Fat Choy. One person took the help and made the return trip and found it. The other two haven't gotten back there yet. For those who have an interest in this one, it's near a pretty busy road, but there are ways you can disguise your interest in the last twenty feet or so. Aren't you interested in having such a thing on your property? There is a phone number you can call, and of course you have to inspect things carefully. This should give you a cover story. One person looked for about an hour and couldn't find this one, but it's right there...ready for you to see it. ************ Some of the newer cachers in the immediate Stockton area seem to have already bailed out of the game, but they might come back. ************ Lurkers....drop a note in here now and again! Our thread is one of the largest (page wise) on the site but we have DEFINITELY slowed down from about page 60 up to 72....and some of that NOT due to hot weather. The breakfast event might get us all going again. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  10. quote:Originally posted by JaimeeG:The piggy's name is Mu Shu (yes, as in "mu shu pork"). I am not sure about his caching capabilities. Thus far, his only real task has been to look cute and eat. I am pretty much the only one who sees his beauty though....sigh. Jaimee How big IS this porker anyway? While he may not be able to FIND caches, couldn't he be a cache guardian? Place a cache called *Pig Out!* and make it a night-time only hunt. Place the cache (and the tethered pig) around a blind corner in a culvert. Then when the cachers come in the only way they can (straight from the front) the squeals should be audible all the way to Ceres...from the cachers, not the piggy! Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  11. Bill... The big question is not whether Jaimee is a bonafide shopper, but whether or not her pork friend can find Tupperware in the woods. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  12. quote:Originally posted by JaimeeG: I went out a bit ago to check on my pig, and there was actually a nice little breeze blowing. YIPPPEEEE! Jaimee I take it the pig was *downwind* from your location? Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  13. . The quiet forum happens when crickets don't rub their legs together! ******** Went caching with TeamGui yesterday; two new ones for me and about 6 for the GUI. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  14. . Take a look at your cacher profile, then click on the index tab marked Cacher Stats (or words to that effect). Neat! Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.

  17. Thanks to several Sac cachers who sent me emails regarding Pika's situation. I am up to speed now, as is JaimeeG. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  18. Re Pika: Almost two years ago I saw posts from a Pika (something) and felt it was a young person. The cacher then changed the name to Pika(something else) and not a word was heard again. About two months ago I got an email asking me this question: *What was the number of the bus stop at (certain cache)?* Of course this was a question that made no sense to me, but remembering the Pika of old, I thought it might be a youngster who had no transport but wanted to ride the bus to the cache site! But a teenage girl? I doubt we will ever know Pika's complete story. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  19. Pat and Jaimee... Pat.... Was that bullheaded cacher me? I've said that before and thought it often. If you don't want to go for one of my caches DON'T. There are plenty of other caches out there. Sometimes people just have to complain about something. At one point some people didn't like my clues so I stopped putting in clues. Then some people didn't like that there were NO clues. One guy said I couldn't count..the cache was 20 feet from a spot I indicated, not ABOUT 18. Puhleeeeze! Jaimee...I *found* one of your caches, which you can see here. Enough for now, got a 4th of July celebration to prepare for. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  20. .. All cachers interested in Red's *It's Hollow* cache....we need to get Red's phone number so we can stir him to action! If the cache is still there after all these experienced cachers have looked for it, I will be amazed. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  21. . Hey Jason.... I've hiked the outflow from Silver Lake myself. Went out of the old PG&E campground...now called something else. The whole area is beautiful and it's hard to go wrong on a hike there. The Lake Margaret hike is a nice one too. We hiked to the river there but didn't wade across as thunder was still rumbling and we didn't want to get caught in a storm. Lake Margaret itself is not all that great, steep rocky shores mostly, but the walk through the meadows to get there is great. Here's the future page for Lakeside at Silver Lake, but as of 7 pm Wednesday, it had not yet been approved. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  22. . Back in hot Stockton after Sunday and Monday at Silver Lake (60 miles above Jackson on 88 and near Kirkwood Ski Resort). Beautiful territory there. Silver Lake and Caples Lake are the big lakes, plus smaller ones and lots of hiking trails. There are about 6 caches or so in the area. Got one physical and one virtual. The others on trails we didn't hike. Our big hike was six miles round trip along one edge of Silver Lake to Granite Lake and beyond and coming back the clouds got pretty gray with thunder but no rain. About 2 a.m. that morning the winds were roaring about 40 to 50 mph and our cabin was above and overlooking the lake...quite an experience, but no rain...just terrible wind. Finally quit blowing just after sunrise for our 8 am departure. Back in Stockton, no terrain, no clouds, no cool temps....but home, sweet home, none-the-less. Oh...I also placed a cache near Granite Lake. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  23. . Take one cacher with a big ego and make him/her an approver...what do you get? The power usually runs amuck for awhile 'till reason sets in, but then a *seizure* might happen from time to time too. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
  24. Jaimee, Jaimee, Jaimee... Proving once again that no one can make someone happy 100% of the time. I always had good luck communicating with them though. The approvers get it from both ends...from cachers and from geocaching.com. Poor approvers! Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost.
