  1. Interestingly, if one has the time and money ($25,000) in the summer of 2012 Rainbow Hydrothermal Vents might be found. Trip of a lifetime!
  2. In Minnesota, I have found some caches that are tucked in the witness post of benchmarks. It is a 2 for 1, yet is not obstructing the benchmark. King Boreas has a series of them as puzzles and traditionals. Examples: Stardust Trail: Astronaut and Sratdust Trail: Forever and Ever. I don't think it would be wise to leave a cache on or in the the immediate vicinity of a benchmark.
  3. Since my name is in the inital post, I'll give my two cents on PM features. My initial introduction to PM features was a couple of PMO caches within 100 miles of me. It annoyed me that I couldn't see the coodinates and details on the cache page. Especially one PMO cache 50 miles from my house in Rural Minnesota. We have so few caches--why limit who can see it? Still I didn't become a PM until I realized the power of map filters, bookmark lists, and PQs. I became a PM and gifted PMs to the other two in my geocaching group (for my 250th cache find). We were about to go to Vegas and there were some PMO caches I wanted to see. I didn't know about the backdoor logging yet and I didn't want them to miss out on logging them. My most used features: GPX files Bookmark lists PQs Favorites Map Filters Friends Sortable searchs Statistics Not/rarely used: Notifications Caches along a route Ignore list (I don't use it, but I like the option) Off-Topic Forum--I didn't know there was one PMO caches--I don't consider them a perk, just another piece of tupperware in the woods. Although, I have found quite a few of them. I guess they should be in the first list.
  4. "The OP did not bring upon himself the actions of the loony toons who posted vile messages on his caches. Those log entries are entirely the responsibility of the sad loaner who (apparently) stopped taking their medications recently." (Bolding was me) A depressed banker did it? Seriously, I think the NA log was not needed. I think what really irritated people were the tactics used, not so much what was done. I admit I checked the OP out when I first found these reams of emails in my inbox. (He is in Oregon!?!) I never thought about messing with his caches. Sad that someone did, but he knew full well what he was getting into. He admitted as much when he said that he was testing Groundspeak. What I want to know is what is the desired solution from the OP's perspective? Any ownerless cache archived automatically, to see if the 'special' caches have special rules, to see how you rate in comparison, to change the names of the notes you can log from 'Needs Archived' to 'Needs Reviewer Attention'... I hope that the owner logs back in soon to get rid of the looming archival. I have been watching this cache for a couple months. Interestingly, more people have begun watching it since the 'publicity' increased. I think an Earthcache would be just as good here--if the original got archived. It is the Geographical South Pole! I cant think of another more true Earthcache. I know it isn't the old virt, but it would be just as awesome to go to if it was an Earthcache. I think the problem would be who could place it. Wouldn't it be a 'vacation cache' by definition and not publishable?
  5. Trying to get geocaching icons too. Greetings from Minnesota!
  6. Write your name on a piece of paper and add it to the goo. Then notify the cache owner that the cache needs maintenance. (Or do the maintenance yourself) What permance does a piece of paper have added to "goo"? After so long your paper and signature will disinigrate and will your find be 'gone' too? If you find the container, open it and it is too wet or gross to sign it, it is still a find, but you have to put a needs maintence log too.
