  1. I have collected a few of them, there are some great ones out there. Would agree dont put them in the logbook as on windy days they tend go everywhere, put them in a there own packet so they can be thumbed through. Can not understand how anyone can hate them, they just add to the fun of it, lets get real. striderpaul
  2. Was searching for letterboxing on the internet and then came across geocaching website, bought a gps and have never looked back. A question to Team Ballibeg, do you do all your geocaching without a gps??

  13. Cheers Richard I have been using my Garmin Etrex cabled up with serial cables and the cradle!! It works fine but is a little awkward in the field, to say the least. How do you find the power drain with the Emtac GPS jacket connected? striderpaul
  14. Hi all Thinking (seriously) of buying a Emtac iPAQ GPS Jacket for my hp3950 compaq pda. I have memory map installed on the pda and presume that it will work with the Emtac iPAQ GPS Jacket. Has anyone got a similar setup? or any advice? Cheers striderpaul west sussex
  15. Im all for the calling cards, Ive designed my own after seeing so many different designs left in the caches Ive visited. And as someone stated earlier you come to regognise certain ones, sometimes you havent time to read through the whole log, so a quick look through the cards let you know who's vsited. Like the idea mentioned earlier of changing the designs. If any are left in my cache I would keep them. I really dont think they do any harm, take up little room and add variety. striderpaul
  16. Enjoyed Map Man myself, although a little dissapointed that they did not give more info on the making of the map, like the surveying of the towns and villages, the rivers etc. Although they gave a very quick explanation of the road surveying it was hardly in depth! Will give it another go next week. striderpaul
  17. And with my map reading skills I could use the map as kindling striderpaul
  18. I wondered my self, but it seems the only time the tick will appear in the found column is when you have logged your find on the GC website and then downloaded the latest Pocket Queries search. Unless anyone knows otherwise although you record it as Found it makes no difference to the display in GPXSonar, so I presume that you cannot update the GPX file you have downloaded from PQ. striderpaul
  19. Hi All If anyones interested this Thursday (16/9) on BBC2 at 19.30 there is a program all about cartography called Map Man, it runs for 8 episodes and has had some good write ups. So if your into maps it might be of interest to you. striderpaul
  20. Bren & Ruth I use GPXSonar, to log a cache as found, simply select the cache and hold the stylus on it, the graphic displays for a little while but keep the stylus on the selected cache, a menu will appear with Show Hints/Field Notes (the one you want)/Set as Centre/Ignore Cache/Ignore Caches By this Owner/View Online/Dismiss Menu. When you select Field Notes it will have a drop don menu of Found It/Did Not Find it/Write A Note/Archive It. You can also Timestamp select TBs which will be displayed depending on when you ran Pocket Queries last. Of course the logged find will not be displayed on the website until you log onto the net. striderpaul
  21. Happy Humphrey Interested in your posting, I would agree with you solution as I have the same set up and transfered waypoints/marks to MM on the PDA the same way. What I was interested in was how you logged caches in the field. Iam using GPXSonar, I make notes in the field and when I get home just copy the notes I have made. But when away from home it would be great to be able to log Caches without being home, how do you do this? cheers striderpaul
  22. I would be very interested in reading it, I have just bought memory map, and d/l GPXSonar to read my caches. Have also used pocket queries, and today done my first paperless cache. Would like to refine and gain more info on paperless cacheing. striderpaul west sussex
  23. Cheers for the info, think I will go for memory map, found a place in Arundel West Susex that stocks them. striderpaul
