  1. Hey everyone Its ben a while since i was on geocaching and i havent been getting the newsletter. Could someone explain what a webcam cache is? i cant find info on geo.com anywhere. Thanks!
  2. Homer is not a small town. now by your standards its a small microbe on a sciencetists slide... However i do not know almost all of my neighbors, and there are sevral caches in homer. Around 30 or so, wich is pretty good considering the towns size. There are many many urban caches, becasue homer is a popular tourists spot there are almost always muggles around. so, i must say that yes, we do have urban cacheing and yes, i do know what its like. Just becasue we dont have skyscrapers dose not mean we arnt civilised. No offense at all intended, mind you.
  3. Hey, I'm super conservitive like you. Actually, more along the lines of Libertarian, but I see you're from The UK, and that doesn't translate anyways. No, I do not feel the need to spread the word via social networking to people who've never heard of it, and think it's actually a bad idea. People can just find out about it as they always have. UK? no way, me veeery far from UK... how u come to that conclusion?
  4. I've never seen or heard of a muggle "studying" a cache. 99.9% of muggle encounters stem from a cacher looking suspicious while looking for a cache and being called out by a muggle. If having muggles stumble upon caches is common in your area, then the caches must not be hidden very well. Anyway, I would define good vs. bad muggles this way: Good muggle: They see you doing something weird in a weird spot. You explain to them what you're doing. They are interested in hearing about it more, help you look for the cache, or are just plain indifferent and go on their way. Bad muggle: They see you doing something weird in a weird spot. You explain to them what you're doing. They threaten to call the cops, yell at you, or point a gun at you. You try to explain further how harmless it is, but they get even madder and/or refuse to listen. And also: Ugly muggle: They see you doing something weird in a weird spot. You don't even get a chance to explain what you're doing. They point a gun at you and fire. They get a sentence of 7 years and 4 months. Oh, and if good muggles are "Guggles", and bad muggles are "Buggles", does that mean that ugly muggles are "Uggles"? Totally true i would say thats a better defenition, and i like your sense of humor lol
  5. What are some good tips to be "sneaky" when searching for a cache? Whenever I see a muggle nearby I try to lollygag and wait around until the area is clear. But i've had to log a few DNF's on a couple of caches because there were so many muggles around.. I was afraid to try to find the cache. Any pointers on how to find these caches that muggles are always going to be around??! Thanks I would say that "sneaky" is too harsh a word.. dont be secret agent style, just observe from a aways away and then maybe pretend to drop something and bend down to look under a log or something. I usally just ease my way to the cache if i have already seen it but just cant get to it, then when the mug has theyre back turned, just snatch it and take it somewere else to examine.
  6. Should geocacheing be made openly public by us and our friends, or should it be conveyed person-to-person? post your thoughts in the comments. My thought is publicly.
  7. Hahaahhah some funny coments but lets stick to the topic shall we? lol
  8. One thing about the forums some starnge things are posted... This is for those of us who have friends who have no idea of the sport.
  9. Maybe true, but some places have a lot of these, especially where i live.
  10. Muggles. all of us cachers have seen them before. There are good muggles and there are bad muggles. Muggles who care nothing about the fact that there is a tag on this little box saying "DO NOT DISTURB ME! I AM AN OFFICIAL GAME PEICE!" And then there are muggles who will take the advice and leave it alone. GOOD MUGGLES: If you see a muggle curiously studying a cache, dont be afraid to walk up and explain the game to them. they may want to know more or they may just shrug and walk off. These are the good muggles, even if they do just shrug and walk off. However, even if a good muggle discovers a cache you might want to notify the owner and suggest moving the cache, because the muggle might decide to come back and do something to the cache. In the event that a muggle comes upon you while you are signing a logbook or something, try to explain what you are doing without giving away other locations of caches. BAD MUGGLES: A bad muggle is someone who will be told repeatedly not to touch the cache but will still move, loot, or destroy it. When encountering a bad muggle, try to be polite, and if they dont take the cache with them, move the cache temporarily until the owner knows that it is in danger. Bad muggles are responsible for near half of all geocache deaths. Remeber, dont give yourself away when finding a cache, be discrete and dont make a big show of it. Most of you already know this, and i know i should have put this in the beginers section of the forums, but here it is. BE MUGGLE SMART!! dont let your caches be stolen!! Happy caching, SUPER-CONSERVATIVE
  11. WHat is a travel bug resort? a specific cache for tbs only, or a special kind of cache?
  12. I keep my cache maintenance kit in a Lock 'n' Lock. It just seemed fitting. I usually keep it in the car, but it's easy to grab and throw into my backpack if I'm going hiking. It also gives me the option to use it as an impromptu cache container if I find a good spot while I'm out. Yah i bet it would get real old in some cases but in others its an advantage. you can do what you wish. i like the talckle box for the fact that things dont get smashed or anything and its hard so it cant be crunched along with whats inside.
  13. Yes i bet a backpack would work better in some cases and you wouldnt look as foolish lol carrying around a tackle box but it depends on where you go. I prefer the box cause it keeps things safe from breaking or squishing and it keeps em organized. thanks for any CONSTRUCTIVE critisism.
  14. Here are some simple directions for putting together an easy carry geocaching box containing swag, GPS, and other things. I use something like this for my caching and i find it really handy. Please reply and add anything if you like. Find a sutable container, i use a tackle box.It would be best if it has a latch and handle. Ad an ID tag on the outside. If you leave it behind sometime and it is found then it can be returned to you. Begin stocking the box with swag and GPS and other good-to-have things. Here is a list of things to have in your box: SWAG i.e. marbles, tags, pins, stickers, trinkets. BATTERIES FOR GPS WATTER BOTTLE FIRST AID NOTEBOOK it is alwasy good to have a personal log of caches and so you can keep track of what you found and need to log. PENCIL AND PEN STRING, always good to have along. Be sure to be organized. I picked a tackle box for my geo-box because of its multiple compartments, wich make it easy to organize things. Remember that some caches wont alow certain things and some will ONLY allow certain things, so its good to have your swag organized and seperated form other things you dont want to lose. Please reply to this post with anything you think should be added or changed. happy caching!!
