  1. I did invite him to create waymarks from the memorials we don't have.
  2. I had an email from from a gentleman who is compiling a book of Holocaust Memorials asking if he could use my pictures. I'm not sure if there is anyone else who has Holocaust waymarks that has been contacted, but if you have one and it's okay for him to use your pictures, can you please reply here? Julian H. Preisler Falling Waters, West Virginia www.JPreisler.com https://www.facebook.com/jhpreisler https://twitter.com/Researcher25419 Waymarking ID jhp1963.
  3. I have two, one is sitting on my desk as we speak. I promised to mail one to another waymarker years ago, and never seem to have the coin the address and an envelope together at the same time.
  4. Would this work as a literary location? A comic book is Literature. There was another Comic Vjeko grew up with, I can't remember the whole name, but does Ford ring a bell? He was reading it in Cyrillic in Serbia, but I think we have also seen it in Croatian.
  5. I would consider including spin-offs. Torchwood had episodes set in Washington DC and California
  6. I just noticed that if you click into groups tab, you get a list of pending votes for your category. Both in my queue were stuck in group vote situations that cleared themselves when I clicked into the category to investigate.
  7. The Roadside America is on US locations. To me the category appears to be subjective. I like categories that you can look at and know it fits the category, and one mans strange is another mans normal. Examples being the mailbox cat which had many headaches attached to it while declining previously approved waymarks.
  8. I actually didn't mean to publicly release that one that reformats it for mobile use. I was playing with that for my own use, but I've commented out that part for now till I clarify what's allowed. One thing that would be helpful would be to have the link to the actual waymark, so that you could click through and log your visit. When I used the webpage for my local area, I saw waymarks I didn't recognize. It was cumbersome to go to the WM site and see if they were mine that I forgot, or someone elses.
  9. This is a very pretty interface. I'm concerned that you may get on the wrong side of our benefactor (Groundspeak) by reformatting the output. We have been told not to mention the names of apps that screen scrape GC.com, and I would hope that doesn't happen to this one. Bruce could probably point you in the direction of the right person to talk to so that no toes are stepped on. The real win-win solution might be if they could integrate your code into their web site when the mobile phone browser is detected. Can you imagine Waymarking having some sort of an open source aspect to it, where our amazing creative and talented members could contribute to the functionality?
  10. Yes, I agree that all the other criteria would still be needed to log the find. When the waymarker gets within 100 feet of the destination the option to capture the waymark appears. After pressing capture, the app would require the finder to download a photo, and the final step would be leave a note. The location-based app couldn't be arm-chair logged because you would need to be at the location to use the capture feature. I put QR codes near some of my waymarks that would take a person to the waymark page with the instructions of use this QR code for additional information on this location. These locations were also listed on another [unnamed] QR code website, and I did get an increase in visits. Personally, I feel that the two different sites work well together, as one site has good navigation built into it. but the QR codes it takes you to are a waste of time. Married with a quality waymark, it makes the other QR code functionality worth using. But, we must be careful as we may not mention the name the the QR code application on this forum, so please to be generic in any mention of this. Currently, the value of a waymark is much more than logging a physical visit. Our waymarks have a high amount of virtual visits, and I have seen them used as reference material on other websites.
  11. It might not be malware (per se), but a browser extension? Do you get the same type things on wikipedia?
  12. This works on Android and Iphone, and my home computer! http://www.zwecklos.ch/wm.htm
  13. When you do a query, like "Find Nearest Waymarks" at the bottom of the page their is an option to get a GPX file for all on the page. There are no PQ's, so you have to do one page at a time. Personally, I don't hunt waymarks the same way I hunt geocaches. I will browse through the waymarks in the area I am going to be. Then when I am doing my normal sightseeing, I will spot something that looks familiar and take a picture. Or, if I see something in my browsing that I don't want to miss, I will look at the map and make a note. There is also a little smart phone URL that will take your current location and plug it into the find nearest waymarks webpage and tell you what is close by. Many of us enjoy posting waymarks more that physically visiting waymarks. I find that it's like scrapbooking my vacation. You can highlight the little things that caught your eye, and add the research about them so you can share more than just a Flickr set.
  14. My home isn't on your list, but we get around quite a bit, so keep us posted!
  15. My fossil park is listed in the rock hounding category http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM2AF6_Trammel_Fossil_Park_Ohio
  16. I'd say it looks more like pintrist than Waymarking?
  17. I spoke too soon, It showed on 7 days, it showed on 365 days, but when I wen back to 7 days I get the error on all of them..
  18. I can think of some really spectacular named canyons and gorges. Agawa Canyon : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agawa_Canyon Columbia River Gorge: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Columbia_River_Gorge Maybe if there weren't a category for Canyons and Gorges, Places of Geologic Significance would work?
  19. I would say that a Waymarking log without a picture is more likely to be accepted if it says something about the actual waymark. The waymark log is how the visitor says to the waymarker, "thanks for creating this waymark". So, when you describe your day and what brought you to town, it doesn't make the waymarker feel that the time he spent researching, writing up, photographing and getting approved was worth very much. On the flip side, sometimes, after the person has done all that work, there isn't much you can add, and a personal Thank-You is about all that is needed.
  20. You are right; most voters do not participate in the forums, at least not actively. Still the forum is a chance to present your ideas to the public and get a feedback that can be used to improve the category before going through the whole process. A category proposal that does not get support in the forum will most likely not make it in peer review. "Boring" sound not like a very elaborated argument, but it is in fact one of the four official voting criteria, just the wording is a bit different. A decline counts, no matter how misinformed or subjective the reason behind might be (the same goes for Yeas, of course). The other reason we suggest bringing it to the forums before submitting is that the handful of us that frequent the forum are some of the most expereinced waymarkers, and can give objective feedback.
  21. For visiting FI67 made a little web page at http://www.zwecklos.ch/wm.htm that shows the waymarks nearest to you. The Android Browser works fine for logging visits. See the other thread for helpful hints on gathering info to post a waymark.
  22. That's my kind of humor! I've thought of submitting an actual "Living Statue" to the living statues category.
  23. Any chance of listing what the "authorized" geocaching apps are so that we don't inadvertently mention an "unauthorized" one?
  24. I would have thought no. No gears, no clock face, no other things I cannot think of. I could run it past the clock folk and see what they say. Still—— new category hahaha. Is the definition of a clock that it tells time, or that it is a mechanical device? I'd try town clocks and see if it gets approved.
