  1. Did we get any updates or fixes? That darned photo orientation annoys me more and more as time goes by. As I replace old computers and laptops, I'm left with only one that I can rotate on my hard drive and upload properly. I had hoped my new camera wouldn't be a problem, but it is.
  2. Previously, we did get permission to do a "virtual" event for waymarkers. I thought it would be fun to schedule something during a trivia game where we all played the trivia game at local restaurants at the same time and used a certail literal in our names to identify ourselves. I never got around to setting something up, but I would participate if someone else did.
  3. I do rather like the uncategorized waymarks. Lately, I just don't have the time it takes to write up a proper waymark. But, I pass things that really should be waymarked. The value to the world of a category increases as the category gets closer to a complete list of things in that category. I can upload the coordinates and a few pictures along with a direction to go and poof, it's a waymark!
  4. I don't understand why people send things to group vote without a comment. As a officer, it would help to know that someone else noticed something I didn't. Sometimes there are subtle details that are unnoticed in the category. As the person whose waymark has gone to group vote, I benefit from the comments, regardless of whether it is approved or not. When I get back comments like this: Your waymark was voted on by the category managers, here is the list of comments by the various members: Initial vote call comment:[none] Vote comments: All I got from it was a five month wait in group vote glitch limbo. Speaking of Group Vote Glitch limbo, it's been 4-5 year, is a fix that low of a priority?
  5. Who was asking about "trading" geographically limited waymarks? I've got a Michigan Historical Marker and a Civilian Conservation Corps I can put into uncategorized, if there is an interest.
  6. Toward the bottom of the waymark, it says Search for... One of the selections will be that category. That will get you a pretty good list..
  7. I think some of the independent hardware stores really have "character". I think Hardware stores could make an interesting category, and big box would be included. http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WM6V9A_Rolison_Hardware_Neon_Sign_Brighton_Michigan
  8. I always notice how great minds think alike... Here are some comments in the FB post, which might say there are more than have been documented Kathleen Allen Thanks for the link. Bet that one was scrapped long ago. The sat image on Google shows a young clump of trees and a large pine. Rex C. is closer, he should take a Sunday drive by and check it out. 3 hours ago · Like Dan Andrella The MB2704 is simply a rotating beacon l(ight) atop the old Goodyear Blimp hanger at Akron Fulton Airport. Standard beacon found at most airports. 3 hours ago · Like Rex Cassidy Very cool list of old beacons. It is not a complete list of all the arrow sites as it omits several Ohio counties where there had to be beacons such as Erie, Ottawa and possibly Sandusky. I don't remember seeing the beacon tower in Richfield but know the spot well. It is off 176 not 21 and just south of a giant eagle. GCTT9N was right across the street. 9. http://www.messynessychic.com/2013/11/15/the-forgotten-giant-arrows-that-guide-you-across-america/ Is anyone up to creating a category for these? Maybe there are geocaches near them?
  10. A resason I might put an declined into uncategorized. Perhaps I was travelling when I took the pictures, and came home to write it up and realized I was missing a photo. If I put it up on uncategorized someone else who had a picture coupld finish it up. My favorite use for uncategorized, I see a lot of things that are waymarkable, but I just don't have the time to type in the words from historical markers. I can put the photo and coordinates, and someone who would like to get something in that category could finsih it up. The goal is that the category get closer to having a complete inventory in that subject, if I can help a little, I will.
  11. Waymarks that are no longer available to find provide a valuable historical perspecive to a given location.
  12. I've started geocaching with my smart phone, and if the phone GPS plus a little geosense is good enough to find something that is hidden, I have no doubts about the coords being good enough use for a waymark in plain sight. I have posted the basics of a waymark with my phone, and come back to edit on the computer. I use a geocaching smart phone app to save the coordinate as a waypoint attached to a nearby geocache, and then I write it down, to use to create a waymark in the browser. I upload my photos through the web browser. If the orientation were correct, I might be able to create a simple waymark through the Smart Phone Browser. Usually, I have to use my desktop to reorient the photo, and reupload. It's also easier for me to do the research on my desktop, but I imagine some day I will be more comfortable with data entry and copy/paste on the tiny screen, and that would change.
  13. It is always an option to ask the reviewer to send it to the group vote. There is no guarantee they will, but in the case where there is something borderline or subjective a group vote will confirm. In the case where some bit of information is unavailable I would tell what steps I used to try to find it. For example instead of leaving blank, you could put "Unavailable to find using google search".
  14. I don't see a requirement that the tiles form a picture to be considered a mosaic. From the category description: - the juxtaposition of these pieces form something recognizable (characters, animals, landscapes, forms...) or simply decorate a construction, a statue, a fountain... With Characters being a key word.
  15. http://www.Waymarking.com/wm/search.aspx?f=1&lat=47.6779496&lon=9.1732384&t=3&id=konstanz+germany&st=2 I was in Ljublana and I took a train to Zurich (700+ km) then rented a car and drove to Konstanz GE (71 km) to get a Stolpersteine, a Bismark Tower and a German Trig point (among others).
  16. Logging a visit online is like saying thank-you to the waymarker for taking the time to post. If one location yields several different waymarks, it's usually because there are multiple aspects of that location that are being highlighted.
  17. Of all the *privilege* accorded to category reviewers, the one thing we can't do is change a category. If I get one that I have to deny, and I think it will go into another category, I generally spell out the steps to change a category. Back when I was getting my first denials, my only choice for changing a category was starting from scratch and re-uploading all my pics, etc. Anyone who has been through that dance would be happy as a clam to change the category on their own waymark.
  18. The Equestrian statue category requires a person riding the horse.
  19. I have a nice waymark for a Horse Statue at the Lippanzaur Stalion Farm in Slovenia. It declined in figurative becasue there is a charge to get in. Any suggestions for another category? http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMJ1VW_Horse_Sculpture_Lipica_SLovenia
  20. I had the waymark with two photos that I uploaded in Windows 8 (they both appeared correctly oriented when I was uplaoding), then I uploaded the same two pictures from my Windows 7 machine (I manually rotated on hard drive). In the waymark gallery, the first two showed sideways, and the second two showed correctly. It was the same browser window, so I can't blame the browser.
  21. I have had to resort to stripping the orientation metadata from photos that I have taken portrait rather than landscape. I use a program to do this, a Exif editor or cleaner will do this. I'm not 100% sure, but I think it's only a problem when I am using my Windows 8 machine, and not a problem on the older laptop.
  22. Thanks! I saw it and I was thinking it was the same name as the bicycle track. My impression when I was there was that is was horse performances. But I did photgraph the informational sign, and I will read up before I create the waymark.
  23. I have tried rotating it as a copy on the hard drive, and no matter what I do, it uploads sideways
