thanks for the reply -- yes I have just the yellow Etrex with no other designation -- but it has been quite accurate in finding caches -- so I have no complaints -- other than I would like to go paperless -- but I might solve that if I get a Samsung tablet the reviews I read are for specific units -- either from amazon or other sites -- even the reviews given from geocache --I wish there were more on the site to read -- and I tend to read all with a grain of salt --

and don't forget that in some areas and at certain times of the year -- there is the possibility of snakes (both poisonous and non) As far as bears -- it has been suggested that you wear bells to scare and ward them off. While walking in bear country keep a look out for signs of bears -- bear poop is a good indication. Now for the tough part, telling Grizzly Bear from Brown Bear poop. Just remember that Grizzly Bear poop will have bells in it. Actually the best defense is geocache with a friend that you are able to outrun.

I have an Etrex that is 4 years old -- it has proved to be very accurate -- however I would like to update to a paperless -- the reviews I have read as far as accuracy for paperless units are not as good as my Etrex any good suggestions? I read the reviews of the explorist - and wasn't thrilled even though it is a dedicated geocache unit

Have some questions about a handheld GPS and Paper

I was hoping somebody would respond -
I just went and did some geocaching for the first time this past weekend We used my Garmin 2730 car GPS to get us close - but have decided a hand held would be extremely useful after we leave the car. So what would be a good one and won't cost alot to get started with. I have been reading all I can about choosing one - as it is as clear as mud Also -- what is paper less caching? would a Garmin eTrex H Handheld GPS be a good starter one -- if I used the car gps to get to the general location as I wouldn't need all the street maps thank you in advance for all the help
