  1. Even though they know it is a problem with the unit, because it is no longer under warranty they can't help me.
  2. I can only get my gc to boot up when I hold power, menu, joystick up and press reset button combination. I cannot get it to boot up with only batteries. While connected to PC it works perfectly. I have upgraded to 1.7. Have tried to download 2.15 several times but the file won't run after it is downloaded. I have connected to my pc and deleted all .gpx files. I have gone into settings and reduced brightness as well as made sure alkaline batteries are selected. I haven't been able to try lithium as I don't have any. Unit is no longer under warranty. Anyone have any suggestions?
  3. Do you mind telling me where you downloaded s-tools from? I think I need it. I have googled it but the sites that come up aren't sites that I have used before. Thanks!
  4. I have only tried a few puzzles which required some form of software to uncover the secret. I now need s-tools software. When I google it, I don't see any sites listed that I recognize. I am hesitant to download software from sites that I don't recognize. Can anyone point me to a site that is trusted for this type of thing?
  5. I was just hoping that someone had already compared them to save me time and disk space Why re-invent the wheel and all that
  6. Can I perform the same functions with EasyGPS or GPSBabel that I can with GSAK? Funds are low at the moment and if I can perform the same tasks for free I'd like to do that for the time being. In GSAK I am importing my PQ's and sending them to my GPS with the GXXXX name, diff, terrain, container type, and hint. I'd love to do log info too but can't seem to do that. Will either of the programs I mentioned above do the same function? I'm using a GPSMaps 60CX. Thanks
  7. I was searching Walmart online and wasn't coming up with anything, but after you replied I called my nearest Walmart and they do have that model at that price. Can I download pocket queries directly to the 60Cx or do I have to use GSAK? I was reading about the new 62 coming out. Any idea on how much this one will cost? I'm just wondering if I should hold out for a few more weeks if it is in the same price range.
  8. My price range is under $200 Cdn. I will use it only for geocaching. I geocache with my two children, so we are in the 3 and under terrain ratings. I have checked the stores in my area, but most of them only sell car gps units. Looking online really doesn't tell me too much as I don't know what I should be looking for really. Aside from the size of my car gps, and the fact that there isn't an arrow indicating which way I should be walking to find my destination, it works great. As I read about some of the other units that I have narrowed down, like the Etrex Venture HC for example, I'm not sure if the units provide me with the same functions as my current gps. It is hard to figure out what each unit has or doesn't have without having one in my hand.
  9. I currently use a nuvi 200. I like the maps but the accuracy can be off and there is quite a bit of walking back and forth trying to find the right area to start my search. I can be paperless by loading pocket queries and I like that. I have read in another post about possibly buying a second, cheaper version and use the two units together. I'm usually trying to keep two little ones and our gear all together so the less I have to have in my hands the better. So, what inexpensive model can I buy that will show maps like the Nuvi, can load pocket queries, and have the pointer or indicator which gives me a bit more guidance? I really don't know what else I'm looking for. The only gps that I have seen is my nuvi 200. Thanks
  10. I was thinking about picking one of these up for my kids. I am wondering how the update kits etc. work in Canada. Is it worth the trouble and expense to bring one in from the states and the update kit? Do you get access to newly placed caches? Or should I just keep my eyes open for an entry level gps here in Canada?
  11. I have been reading the forums and see that some caches take minutes to get published while others take a few days. I submitted one last night and though I completely understand that they are reviewed according to the reviewer's time and schedules (thank you!) I'm just wondering if maybe I should have put more information in to make it quicker to publish. I wrote a brief description as to the type of cache it was and mentioned how to open it up. I gave a hint and mentioned parking availability. In the space for note to reviewer I didn't write anything as I didn't know what would be helpful. Do they really want anything specific there? A photo of the cache? Is what I did adequate for a speedy publish or should I have added more? Thanks
  12. Today was pretty bad. It was a lovely fall day and I thought we would have a great time. But it was me and two little ones and a small dog - on a leash. We met three unleashed labs in under 10 minutes which went directlfy for my kids and pup (must be leashed park) and then as we were searching for the first cache another unleashed dog came tearing up at us. I tried to get between him and my youngest and the pup and it barred it's teeth. Owner was coming up behind telling me he won't hurt anyone - that's why he barred his teeth at me and doesn't respond to his owner!!! So we left that cache and continued to try and find another in the park. It had rained last night and the whole area was now in a swamp. Youngest got completely soaked and I wasn't far behind him. We did manage one cache today but my gps was so off in this park that it had us crawling over all sorts of rocks and things that were much rougher than the ratings listed it as. Not the hiders fault, but it was a long, wet day!
  13. I'd love to make my son some things for Christmas that are geocaching related. Any good sites or ideas for things that I can make?
  14. I'm pretty sure that my gps does not have an option to set it to TRUE garmin nuvi.
  15. This is the one that I can recall off the top of my head, and it does happen to be a puzzle. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8f-db2b199e3342 It is this part in particular in which I don't understand what to do. This position will take close to the shoreline, but a little on the wet side. From this position proceed on "SBR" degrees TRUE for "PM" yards. There will be a double trunked tree there. Inside the hollow crotch, there is a small canister with the instructions for the final waypoint. I appreciate your help
  16. I have no idea what to do when I see these in cache descriptions. I can't search TRUE on this site as it is only 4 characters, so I apologize if this has been covered recently. Could someone please explain to me how to do this or link me somewhere that will. Thanks!
  17. Do you mainly just do a pocket query first thing in the morning looking for new items ? Or do you use the hide and seek feature with say your home coordinates each day? Do you have the items with red checkmarks set to ignore as you have already done them, or do you leave them as you might want to follow the logs now and then? I'm just curious on the best way to set things up so that I can see the caches nearest me and can see the new caches too. I did set up a notify today. How do you organize and check things? Thanks!
  18. If I understand it correctly I should be able to set up an ignore feature somewhere so that the caches that I will not likely attempt can be hidden from my searches. Can someone point me to the instructions on how to do that? Thanks
  19. I have been looking at that one but I'm in Canada and they don't have caches for Canada yet from what I understand. I'd also have to order it in the US. Having to purchase an extra update kit for new caches isn't thrilling me either. But if it works great and is very kid friendly maybe it is worth the extra?
