  1. Visit the following website to learn all about it: http://www.geowoodstock.com/gws9/index.html
  2. The official website and registration are open for business: GWS9
  3. An ALR that applies only to the first person to find a cache is still an ALR. No, the first person to find does not have to hide a new cache. They can still log the find and let someone else take the FTF trackable.
  4. Just attend an event in your area to meet some local cachers. Where are you from?
  5. That's exactly what we did. The rules that appear in the cache description were laminated and tethered to the trackable. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.as...a2-dc976f026347
  6. This mod has poorly interpreted the description of these "Curse of the FTF" caches. Where does it state that you must hide a cache to log the find? It doesn't. In fact, the series that I participated in has the following additional note as part of the cache description:
  7. Spoke to the Apartment Manager this morning. All is well. He has no problem with the cache, it's location, or people seeking the cache via the Apartment grounds. Thanks again to the great communication from the last finder. For those reading this thread, if your ever in Central NJ, stop by Comic Book Trade and grab some comics.
  8. I agree with Motorcycle Mom, both in CA and WA the ownership of the property remains with the owner. The easement allows access to the property to others for things like sidewalk (town/city) or telephone poles. You should be able to determine the ownership by looking at the plot map with all the other legal stuff you got when you bought the house. The only issue I see with the cache is that finders need to enter the apartment grounds to find it. That could be a bit iffy. But maybe I mis-understood. Jim Very true Jim. That might be the concern of the Apartment Manager. Visitors (non-residents) come and go to this apartment complex all the time, so since I've commuted through this area for the past 10 years, I thought nothing of it. Here's hoping they will knowingly allow it. Stay tuned to see how things turn out.
  9. Exactly why I'm contacting the township so I can better understand who owns the easement and its rights of use. I may have been misinformed when I purchased the property. I currently maintain the property. It use to be a haven for dumping before I cleared out all the trash. I also do an annual walk through to remove any litter. My biggest concern is that after over 10 years I'll lose my short cut to my daily bus commute to NYC.
  10. I'm the CO of the cache in question. I disabled & removed the cache with the following log: I've since sent the following email to the rental office: Now. I'm just assuming I was wrong/misinformed about who owns the property. The fact of the matter is I still need to confirm that. Before the cache was placed, I've walked pass the location of the cache twice a day for my daily commute for the past 10 years. I've never had apartment management question me. Nor did I think they would have reason to. Anyway, I'll let you guys know what happens.
  11. No real need for a set maintenance schedule. If you happen to be near your hide just check on it every once in a while to see if it is properly stocked with at least some decent swag (unfortunately people take but don't leave or leave junk/swag trash) or if it's a micro/nano, check to see if the log is dry and/or not full. Otherwise, just wait for a finder to post a maintenance log at which time you'll get an email notification. I also check the logs for signatures to confirm finds. Something more people should take the time to do when checking their cache hides. BTW, I hid my 1st cache after 16 finds. Have fun!
  12. One of my favorite geocaching gadgets: Petzl ZIPKA® PLUS² http://www.petzl.com/us/outdoor/headlamps/...ries/zipka-plus
  13. My question is why? I'm surprised Knight 2000 didn't find his answer here.
  14. ditto, used in conjuction with the Evernote and reQall apps and there is currently no easier way to document a large number of finds. Although, built-in speech to text functionality for field notes via the Groundspeak iPhone app would be tops.
  15. A repeated message you'll hear from the veteran cachers to frustrated newcomers is to start with low difficulty / small-large caches. It also wouldn't hurt to meetup with some local cachers so they can show you the ropes. When selecting your caches look for those that are tagged "kid friendly". Also, check the logs and look for caches that have a lot of recent finds and only a few DNFs. Don't give up, we wouldn't want this sport to die , heck I just got started myself. BTW, I went 15/15 just using my iPhone 3GS. Loved it so much, I bought my daughter a geomate jr. and myself an Oregon 550t. After all I invested, this sport, it better not die. Actually, not a chance, if anything it appears to be experiencing a big growth spurt!
  16. My 550t arrived today but I wasn't home to receive and sign for it. Bought it new from ebay and ended up paying $494 shipped (I used bing.com for 10% off $549). Still pricey but it was the best deal I could find. Heard something about Bing discount thing...can you tell us how to go about getting it? Would really appreciate it. Once you sign up for cash back from bing, you'll login and click on the shopping link. Then do a search for GPS. You'll see an ebay advertisement appear on the right hand side. Click the cash back link to ebay. Then once your on ebay, narrow your search for the 550t. Most Buy it Now items will qualify. Check these FAQs for more info: http://www.bing.com/shopping/pages/faq.aspx?FORM=R5FD3 http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/questions/cashback.html Edit to add: looks like bing cash back for ebay is at 12% now

  18. You know there always has to be a rebutle when someone says they had little success with the iPhone app. This new casher has gone 15 out of 15 with the iPhone. That said, after getting caught in a downpour while bushwacking on my last find, I have since placed an order for an Oregon. I'll still use the iPhone for my impromptu casual cache runs but I've decided a dedicated waterproof GPSr is needed for the more serious outings.
  19. You can bet I will. I have family on Ringwood Lake! I used to ride my bike there all the time.
  20. Well, I thought it was time to say hello. 15 caches later and it looks like I’m really hooked. If you would have told this former Brooklynite that I would wake up at 7:00AM on a rainy Sunday morning searching for a container in the woods, I would have thought you were crazy. From the Nuvi 350 to the iPhone 3GS to a Geomate Jr. for my daughter, I’m now a bit more invested in this wonderful new hobby as I just got a great deal on a new Oregon 550t thanks to bing.com (10% off) and ebay. I’ve also recently started creating caches and will hide them in the coming weeks. I love the side benefits too. Since I’ve started caching in July I’ve lost 10lbs. This has motivated me to eat healthier, and exercise more. I use to mountain bike 15 years ago and now that I’m geocaching, I’m motivated to return to my favorite outdoor sports. I’ve also recently went canoeing after a 12 year hiatus. No longer is my outdoor activity limited to BBQs, lounging by the pool, and sitting on the sidelines at my daughter’s soccer games. A big thank you to the geocaching community for bringing me back to the great outdoors!
